Book Precambrian Basins of India

    Book Details:
  • Author : R. Mazumder
  • Publisher : Geological Society of London
  • Release : 2015-04-02
  • ISBN : 1862397236
  • Pages : 349 pages

Download or read book Precambrian Basins of India written by R. Mazumder and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2015-04-02 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Memoir provides a comprehensive review of the Precambrian basins of the four Archaean nuclei of India (Dharwar, Bastar, Singhbhum and Aravalli-Bundelkhand), encompassing descriptions of the time-space distribution of sedimentary-volcanic successions, the interrelationship between tectonics and sedimentation, and basin histories. Studies of 22 basins within the framework of an international basin classification scheme deepen an understanding of the basin architecture especially for cratonic basins. Most Indian sedimentary successions formed as cratonic to extensional-margin rift and thermal-sag basins, some reflecting mantle plume movement, subcrustal heating or far-field stress. This Memoir shows that Phanerozoic plate-tectonic and sequence stratigraphic principles can be applied to the Precambrian basins of large Archaean provinces. The differences between the stratigraphic architecture of the Indian Precambrian and examples of Phanerozoic basin-fill successions elsewhere are ascribed to variable rates and intensities of the controls on accommodation and sediment supply, and changes inherent in the evolution of the hydrosphere-atmosphere and biosphere systems.

Book Crustal Evolution and Metallogeny in the Northwestern Indian Shield

Download or read book Crustal Evolution and Metallogeny in the Northwestern Indian Shield written by Mihir Deb and published by Alpha Science Int'l Ltd.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The northwestern Indian Shield, covering a major part of Rajasthan and parts of northern Gujarat, northwestern Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi, is one of the most important repositories of a variety of mineral deposit types, particularly of base metals. Their metallogeny has been a topic of both academic and economic interest for more than five decades. This volume presents in a systematic manner the essential features of all economically significant types of metallic mineral deposits in this region and considers their mettallogeny in the perspective of crystal evolution of the northwestern Indian shield. Current concepts, problems and the probable trends of future research are highlighted. Leading geoscientists with first hand knowledge of this Precambrian terrene have contributed to this volume. The book will be of interest to exploration geologists, researchers and postgraduate students concerned with Precambrian geology and metallogeny.

Book Cratons and Fold Belts of India

Download or read book Cratons and Fold Belts of India written by Ram Sharma and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-10-06 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cratons and Fold Belts of India, is a unique attempt at presenting geological characteristics and evolution of the fold belts and the cratonic areas of the Indian shield. The author has evaluated the different evolutionary models for each fold belt in light of all the currently available geological and geochronological informations that are clearly listed. Shortcomings, if any, of each model are stated and a viable geodynamic model is presented for each fold belt. The book is self-contained – it includes an introduction to the processes of mountain building, especially plate tectonics theory with its application to the evolution of the Himalaya as an illustrative example – so that the reader can better appreciate the novel approach to the evolution of Proterozoic fold belts. The author eschews a detailed account of the fold belts for a clear description of all the concepts that go into building models. It is primarily written for graduate students, teachers and for those geoscientists who aspire to know all about the Indian shield.

Book Proterozoic Orogens of India

Download or read book Proterozoic Orogens of India written by T.R.K. Chetty and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-07-12 with total page 427 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Proterozoic Orogens of India: A Critical Window to Gondwana provides a unique opportunity to understand a cross-section of the well-exposed and best-studied part of Earth's crust and the processes of continental collision. It covers pulses of reworking processes and their impact on magmatism, metamorphism and deformational history of Proterozoic orogens vis-à-vis the supercontinental formation. The book summarizes and integrates the state-of -the art understanding of the structural architecture, lithological assemblages, petrological, geochemical, geochronological and geophysical aspects of the Proterozoic orogens of India. - Includes a much needed state-of-the-art tectonic summary of the voluminous data that has emerged from the Protrozoic orogens of India in the last 2-3 decades - Authored by a well-established expert with more than 30 years of experience in the field based, multi-scale structural geological studies of the ancient orogens of India - Covers up-to-date reviews and models of Proterozoic orogens developed in the Indian shield over the past 2.5 billion years of Earth history

Book Tectonics of the Indian Subcontinent

Download or read book Tectonics of the Indian Subcontinent written by A.K. Jain and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-04-07 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This books documents the salient characters of the tectonic evolution of the Indian subcontinent. It showcases the well investigated subcontinent of Gondwana. The book is linked to an updated geological and tectonic map of this region on 1:12,000,000 in scale. The Indian subcontinent displays almost uninterrupted and unique the geological history since about Eo-Archean (~3800 Ma) to recent, with the development of many Proterozoic deformed and metamorphosed fold belts around Archean nuclei, and enormously thick undeformed platform deposits. After their stabilization during late Proterozoic, the subcontinent underwent Paleozoic rifting and deposition of coal-bearing thick sequences, followed by enormously-thick outpouring of Deccan volcanics as a consequence of huge mantle plume. The youngest event in its evolution is the Cenozoic Himalayan Orogenic Mountains, spanning the area between Nanga Parbat and Namcha Barwah; a part of which extends both in Pakistan and Myanmar.

The issues are quite complex but now they have crossed all the political boundaries and have become a common cause. The biggest challenge before the scientific community is to integrate valuable scientific advances and technological progress to solve the issue based on holistic and effective sustainable groundwater management. The book comprises the selected papers presented from all over the world at the 33rd International Geological Congress, Oslo, Norway, August 6 -14. 2008. A referee system of high, international standard has been used to review all the papers thoroughly before accepting them for publication. Each paper has been reviewed by at least two internationally recognized subject experts. In many cases as many as 5 or 6 subject experts have been contacted for the review work for a single paper because a much delayed response from the first two reviewers. Fortunately, all of them have sent their review comments simultaneously but at a later date.
