Book excerpt: (Previously published as Reflections of God's Love) Pray Powerfully, Lose Weight is a beautiful collection of short inspiring weight-loss devotionals, prayers, declarations, scriptures, and quotes designed to teach you how to effectively pray your way through every aspect of your weight loss journey. This is not just another book of prayers. It was birthed as the result seeing the power of prayer first-hand in the lives of tens of thousands of women. It’s an accumulation of studying all aspects of weight loss and recognizing that prayer can make all the difference but only when properly applied. As you delve into the daily devotionals, you will experience God’s peace and presence as you spend time with Him in prayer bringing your weight loss desires to Him. You will believe that you can finally not only lose weight, but keep it off for good; You will begin to see prayer not as something you should do but as something you want to do. You will feel your faith rise and your fears decrease. You will gain the confidence to ‘ask whatever in His name, and believe He will do it’ (John 14:13). Book How to Pray When You re Pissed at God

Download or read book How to Pray When You re Pissed at God written by Ian Punnett and published by Harmony. This book was released on 2013-04-30 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When things really go wrong, what do you do with the feeling that God is to blame? A popular Coast to Coast radio host (and Episcopal clergy) provides some answers. In a first of its kind book, Ian Punnett provides a spiritual path for expressing your rawest emotions through prayer and how to rebuild a relationship with one's higher power--or anybody else in your life. In this important and practical book, Ian Punnett provides insight on feeling anger and resentment toward God and offers advice on how to deal with the pain and blame that accompanies these emotions. In a book that is edgy, timely, funny and compassionate, Punnett presents real help in everyday language for transforming the negativity of anger into a positive and useful force that will ultimately help us pray more effectively, bring us closer to God, enhance our spiritual relationship, and change the way we live and love others. After a divorce, a broken friendship, the death of a loved one, the loss of a job or even the accumulation of all the tiny cracks in our spirit from life's disappointments, it’s easy to feel pissed at God. When anger is left unchecked, it is harmful to our minds, bodies and souls. “How to Pray When You’re Pissed at God is not “the last word” on angry prayer,” Punnett writes, “but it might be the first words you have ever heard on the topic. By the end of the book, it is my hope that you’ll understand the role of anger in our lives, the benefit of honest prayer, and the need for honest, angry prayer in the lives of the faithful and faithless.”

Download or read book The Soul of Prayer written by Peter Taylor Forsyth and published by Regent College Publishing. This book was released on 1951 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Here is a no-nonsense theologian who goes for the jugular. In Forsyth's company we are aware of both the glory and the gravity of what we are doing when we go to our knees in prayer." -Eugene H. Peterson P. T. Forsyth is sometimes described as an English pre-cursor to Karl Barth. He was born in 1848 to a Scottish family of humble origins and later in life attended Aberdeen University, where he graduated with first-class honours in classical literature in 1869. In 1876 he was ordained and called to minister in Shipley, Yorkshire. In his early ministry in the Congregational Church, Forsyth fought orthodoxy and sought for the right to rethink Christian theology and pursue liberal thought. In 1878, however, Forsyth experienced a conversion from, in his own words, "being a Christian to being a believer, from a lover of love to an object of grace." A profound awareness of pastoral responsibility was awakened which radically altered the the course of his ministry. His conversion thrust him from the leadership of liberalism to a recovery of the theology of grace. Quickly, he became one of the better-known figures in British Nonconformity. In 1894, he received a call to Emmanuel College in Cambridge, where he preached his famous sermon, "Holy Father" in 1896. In 1901, he accepted a position as principal of Hackney Theological College, London where he remained until he died in 1921. Over his lifetime Forsyth published 25 books and more than 260 articles. He is often credited with recovering for his generation the reality and true dimensions of the grace of God.
