Book Advances In Aircraft Flight Control

Download or read book Advances In Aircraft Flight Control written by MB Tischler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-04-24 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a single comprehensive resource that reviews many of the current aircraft flight control programmes from the perspective of experienced practitioners directly involved in the projects. Each chapter discusses a specific aircraft flight programme covering the control system design considerations, control law architecture, simulation and analysis, flight test optimization and handling qualities evaluations. The programmes described have widely exploited modern interdisciplinary tools and techniques and the discussions include extensive flight test results. Many important `lessons learned' are included from the experience gained when design methods and requirements were tested and optimized in actual flight demonstration.

Book CONDUIT A New Multidisciplinary Integration Environment for Flight Control Development

Download or read book CONDUIT A New Multidisciplinary Integration Environment for Flight Control Development written by and published by . This book was released on 1997 with total page 30 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A state-of-the-art computational facility for aircraft flight control design, evaluation, and integration called CONDUIT (Control Designer's Unified Interface) has been developed. This paper describes the CONDUIT tool and case study applications to complex rotary- and fixed- wing fly-by-wire flight control problems. Control system analysis and design optimization methods are presented, including definition of design specifications and system models within CONDUIT, and the multi-objective function optimization (CONSOL-OPTCAD) used to tune the selected design parameters. Design examples are based on flight test programs for which extensive data are available for validation. CONDUIT is used to analyze baseline control laws against pertinent military handling qualities and control system specifications. In both case studies, CONDUIT successfully exploits trade-offs between forward loop and feedback dynamics to significantly improve the expected handling qualities and minimize the required actuator authority. The CONDUIT system provides a new environment for integrated control system analysis and design, and has potential for significantly reducing the time and cost of control system flight test optimization.

Book Landing Approach Automatic Flight Control System Design Via Reduced Order Optimal Control Law

Download or read book Landing Approach Automatic Flight Control System Design Via Reduced Order Optimal Control Law written by Jerry DeVerne Pfleeger and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A set of optimal feedback gains is used as a basis for designing a practical longitudinal automatic flight control system for the landing approach task. A procedure is developed to give a good first-cut design. The procedure is systematic and straightforward. The procedure is used to design two control systems for a DC-8 aircraft. In one case it is assumed that pitch, rate, normal acceleration, and longitudinal airspeed are continuously measured on board the aircraft. The second system is similar to the first with the exception that longitudinal airspeed is deleted as one of the measured variables. These systems are compared with a high-performance automatic flight control system that was designed using classical control techniques. The procedure is also used to design two control systems for a hypothetical aircraft with direct lift control capability. (Author).

Book Optimal Design of Helicopter Precision Hover Control Systems

Download or read book Optimal Design of Helicopter Precision Hover Control Systems written by N. N. Purl and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1-F-162202-AA-9713(*helicopters, hovering), (*flight control systems, helicopters), stability, equations of motion, accuracy, optimizationcomputer aided analysisModern Control Theory is employed to analytically determine the limit of positional precision with which a helicopter can be hovered. Approaches based on Liapunov's Second Method and a Squared Root Locus Method are formulated to this optimal control problem. Both of these methods avoid iterative solution of the Matrix Riccati Equation. The Squared Root Locus Method is developed as a computer algorithm which generates optimal control designs as a function of performance index and helicopter stability/control derivatives. Practical design constraints can readily be interpreted from the results of this formulation. (Author).

Book Modeling Control and Coordination of Helicopter Systems

Download or read book Modeling Control and Coordination of Helicopter Systems written by Beibei Ren and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-03-03 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling, Control and Coordination of Helicopter Systems provides a comprehensive treatment of helicopter systems, ranging from related nonlinear flight dynamic modeling and stability analysis to advanced control design for single helicopter systems, and also covers issues related to the coordination and formation control of multiple helicopter systems to achieve high performance tasks. Ensuring stability in helicopter flight is a challenging problem for nonlinear control design and development. This book is a valuable reference on modeling, control and coordination of helicopter systems, providing readers with practical solutions for the problems that still plague helicopter system design and implementation. Readers will gain a complete picture of helicopters at the systems level, as well as a better understanding of the technical intricacies involved.

Book A Design Procedure and Handling quality Criteria for Lateral directional Flight Control Systems

Download or read book A Design Procedure and Handling quality Criteria for Lateral directional Flight Control Systems written by Gunter Stein and published by . This book was released on 1971 with total page 273 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The program develops a practical design procedure for aircraft augmentation systems based on quadratic optimal control technology and handling-quality-oriented cost functionals. The procedure is applied to the design of a lateral-directional control system for the F4C aircraft. The design criteria, design procedure, and final control system are validated with a program of formal pilot evaluation experiments. These use 5 x 2 x 3 mixed-design analysis of variance. A reformulated optimal model-following control problem is used as the cornerstone for the procedure. Design criteria are expressed as model differential equations satisfying available handling-quality data. The reformulation includes optimality over multiple flight conditions and constant gain and measurement realizability constraints. A computational algorithm is developed to solve the new optimization problem. The algorithm successfully handled 20th-order F4C lateral-axes dynamics and optimized five flight conditions simultaneously. The results of the validation experiments were fully positive with strong correlation between performance and pilot opinion data. (Author).
