Book Practical Absorption Spectrometry

Download or read book Practical Absorption Spectrometry written by C. Knowles and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The inspiration for this volume lies in Edisbury's Practical Hints for Absorption Spectrometry which was published 17 years ago. Dr Edisbury was a founding member of the Photoelectric Spectrometry Group, served as its first Secretary and edited the Bulletin for many years. His wisdom, humour and pragmatism was evident in early meetings of the Group and in the first issues of the Bulletin, and these qualities were distilled in the writing of Practical Hints. In 1977, the Committee of the Group, which by then had been re-named The UV Spectrometry Group, decided to make use of the expertise available amongst the members of the Group in writing some monographs on the practice of UV and visible spectrometry. Working parties were set up which formulated and produced the first two volumes of the series on Standards in Absorption Spectrometry and Standards in Fluorescence Spectrometry. The success of these volumes lead the present Committee of the Group to set up a new Working Party in 1981 to plan a modern version of Edisbury's book. The idea really caught fire' at the first meeting of the Working Party, when ideas sufficient to fill ten vol umes were put forward. We would not pretend to emulate Edisbury's unique style, but hoped to produce a readable book for the newcomer to UV -visible absorption spectrometry, and perhaps to improve the technique of more experienced users.

Book Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectroscopy

Download or read book Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectroscopy written by Richard Payling and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2007-10-31 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy (GDOES) is an essential technique for the direct analysis of bulk solids, for elemental surface analysis and for the depth profiling of thin films and industrial coatings. The technique has shown rapid growth in numbers of instruments, in breadth of applications, in improved quantification in recent years and is now a recognised technique within the ISO, with two international standards. Glow Discharge Optical Emission Spectroscopy: A Practical Guide takes the reader on a journey through instrument operation, sample preparation, analysis, and reporting results. It follows two sets of samples through the whole process of analysis, brass samples for bulk analysis, and zinc-coated steel for depth profiling. Procedures are consistent with recent ISO standards and each step is loaded with hands-on tips and theoretical insight. The book also includes unique data tables on spectral interferences, molecular bands, self-absorption and relative sputtering rates. This book is designed for those using or managing GDOES instruments and for students interested in learning the technique from a hands-on perspective. It is also an invaluable aid to those considering the purchase of a GDOES instrument, or those using GDOES results, to understand in detail how the technique works and what is involved in maintaining the instrument and achieving high quality results.

Book Practical Guide to ICP MS and Other Atomic Spectroscopy Techniques

Download or read book Practical Guide to ICP MS and Other Atomic Spectroscopy Techniques written by Robert Thomas and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-09-29 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by one of the very first practitioners of ICP-MS, Practical Guide to ICP-MS and Other Atomic Spectroscopy Techniques: A Tutorial for Beginners presents ICP-MS in a completely novel and refreshing way. By comparing it with other complementary atomic spectroscopy (AS) techniques, it gives the trace element analysis user community a glimpse into why the technique was first developed and how the application landscape has defined its use today, 40 years after it was first commercialized in 1983. What’s new in the 4th edition: Updated chapters on the fundamental principles and applications of ICP-MS New chapters on complementary AS techniques including AA, AF, ICP-OES, MIP-AES, XRF, XRD, LIBS, LALI-TOFMS Strategies for reducing errors and contamination with plasma spectrochemical techniques Comparison of collision and reaction cells including triple/multi quad systems Novel approaches to sample digestion Alternative sample introduction accessories Comprehensive glossary of terms used in AS New vendor contact information The book is not only suited to novices and beginners, but also to more experienced analytical scientists who want to know more about recent ICP-MS developments, and where the technique might be heading in the future. Furthermore, it offers much needed guidance on how best to evaluate commercial AS instrumentation and what might be the best technique, based on your lab’s specific application demands.

This book was released on 2012-04-17 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interpretive spectroscopy provides a basis for the establishment of cause-and-effect relationships between NIR spectrometer response and the chemical properties of the samples. Without established cause-effect relationships, the measured data has no true predictive significance. This interpretive process is key for achieving an analytical understan

Book Standards and Best Practice in Absorption Spectrometry

Download or read book Standards and Best Practice in Absorption Spectrometry written by C. Burgess and published by Wiley-Blackwell. This book was released on 1999-03-24 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written for academic chemists working in industrial, government and academic laboratories, this book aims to be the definitive guide to standards, compliance and best practice in absorption spectrometry. Compiled by a distinguished team of authors and co-ordinated by the Ultraviolet Spectrometry Group (UVSG), it is essentially a practising analytical chemists' manual. The underlying theory is covered in outline, with references to more fundamental works. The discussion on standards in the first part represents a consensus of informed user opinion and is independent of any commercial bias. The second part contains a guide to the practical application of UV spectrometry written by recognised experts in the field. Part 1 Standards: Overview of UV spectrometry, cell design and construction, instrument design, liquid absorbance standards, solid absorbance standards, stray light, wavelength standards, regulatory overview, recommended procedures for standardisation. Part 2 Practical Absorption Spectrometry: Absorption spectrometry in practice, measuring the spectrum, chemometric techniques and numerical methods, derivative techniques, and automated sampling.
