Book Expanding European Unity Central and Eastern Europe

Download or read book Expanding European Unity Central and Eastern Europe written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-08-14 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989 the former Communist countries of Central and Eastern Europe have been pushing for a quick 'return to Europe'. The project of 'expanding European unity' is in full progress, however, so far none of the former Soviet bloc countries have been able to join the European Union. Technical problems, related to financial management and administrative matters, still have to be overcome, but more fundamental issues are also at stake: what are the borders of Central and Eastern Europe? And will the eastward expansion of the European Union be conducted on the basis of western images and stereotypes of `the East'? This volume examines the state of affairs after ten years of attempts to further enlarge the Union. Written by authors from 'the East' as well as 'the West' some of the articles focus on the general issue of how to distinguish between Western, Central and Eastern Europe, while others discuss the specific situation of the countries that are closest to joining the European Union: Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary.

Book excerpt: The current rich volume of the Yearbook attempts to strike a balance in the multifaceted expressions of the increasing importance of private international law at national and supranational levels. The vitality of private international law within the European Union is evidenced by both legislative projects and the rich case law of the European Court of Justice. While the European Commission's draft for a Regulation on succession - which probably constitutes the most detailed and ambitious attempt ever to codify PIL in this area - begins its legislative process, a new initiative on the application of foreign law is being considered by the European institutions. Both of these developments are discussed in the Doctrine section. But the newest Yearbook of PIL also examines interesting developments taking place on other continents. For example, the present volume includes a special section focusing on Chinese PIL and reports on the renewed interest with conflict of laws in the U.S. doctrine.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cross-Border Collaborative Journalism is a detailed guide to transnational reporting, a cutting-edge journalistic strategy. In the twenty-first century, the most pressing political and social issues, such as financial crises, wealth inequality, migration flows and environmental collapse, transcend national borders. In reaction, journalists are increasingly collaborating across the globe to produce impactful and in-depth reporting. Recent agenda-setting cross-border collaborations include LuxLeaks, Panama Papers and Football Leaks. Brigitte Alfter takes the reader, step-by-step, through the history of cross-border collaborative journalism and the current working practices behind it. The book draws from the author’s own experience, as well as exclusive interviews with other pioneers of cross-border journalism, and notable case studies are integrated throughout. Chapters cover: Managing intercultural communication Effectively utilising a network of sources Choosing the initial story idea Fact-checking for cross-border publication Adapting the findings to different audiences and to different types of media Legal and security considerations for a cross-border team. By providing the essential practical skills for transnational reporting, Cross-Border Collaborative Journalism encourages students of journalism and practitioners to undertake their own collaborative projects. It highlights the importance of this exciting new journalistic form to answering the defining questions of our time.

Book Cross Border Cooperation

    Book Details:
  • Author : Adrian-Claudiu Popoviciu
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2014
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 291 pages

Download or read book Cross Border Cooperation written by Adrian-Claudiu Popoviciu and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 291 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The interdisciplinary approach of Cross-Border Cooperation (from the legal norm of impact in the space frontier to the theoretical paradigms and concrete models offered by European or sociology studies on the organization and management of public or private bodies operating in border regions) gives us a picture of what the Carpathian Region is today, and what the European Cross-Border Region means in general terms.Without claiming to provide miraculous solutions, the authors of the studies in this volume bring in front of you some of the researches they have undertaken in their attempted radiography (generally or by analysing individual items) of cross-border cooperation as it is in the EU Member States. The proposals that are presented in the scientific analyses are meant to stir the interest of public authorities and/or private bodies acting in the field of cross-border or, why not, to attract constructive controversy in the academic research. The lack of information on cross-border cooperation, cross-border labour market, worker, cross-border cooperation body, Euro-region, Carpathian Region etc. may hopefully be corrected, albeit partially, by this volume. It is our hope that the solutions proposed by the authors, or emerging from these analyses will contribute to strengthening the EU integrator process and to fully achieve an old goal of the European Union: "The Union shall establish an internal market. It shall work for the sustainable development of Europe based on balanced economic growth and price stability, a highly competitive social market economy, aiming at full employment and social progress, and a high level of protection and improvement of the quality of the environment"

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adopted by UNCITRAL on 1 July 2009, the publication provides information for insolvency practitioners and judges on practical aspects of cooperation and communication in cross-border insolvency cases. The information is based upon a description of collected experience and practice, focusing on the use and negotiation of cross-border agreements. It provides an analysis of more than 39 agreements, ranging from written agreements approved by courts to oral arrangement between parties to the proceedings that have been entered into over the last decade or so. It illustrates how the resolution of issues and conflicts that might arise in cross-border insolvency cases could be facilitated by cross-border cooperation, and includes a number of sample clauses to illustrate how different issues have been, or might be, addressed. It also includes summaries of the cases in which the cross-border agreements that form the basis of the analysis were used.

Book Cross Border Cooperation CBC Strategies for Sustainable Development

Download or read book Cross Border Cooperation CBC Strategies for Sustainable Development written by Castanho, Rui Alexandre and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2020-02-14 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the importance of sustainability in strategy and development grows, so does the importance of cross-border cooperation (CBC) to facilitate green projects. Border territories, however, are complex and fragile areas, and thus, their planning through CBC projects should be deeply analyzed and studied. It has become crucial to understand this issue across many different disciplines. Cross-Border Cooperation (CBC) Strategies for Sustainable Development is a pivotal reference source that provides relevant theoretical frameworks and trends in border area dynamics as well as cross-border cooperation’s influence on sustainable development. Highlighting topics such as CBC in insular territories, biodiversity policy, and sustainable planning and development, this book is ideally designed for culture analysts, sustainability specialists, policymakers, researchers, academicians, and students.

Book Cross Border Management

Download or read book Cross Border Management written by Rongxing Guo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-01-19 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a new approach to management in an increasingly interactive world. In this context, the use of the word “new” has two meanings. The first relates to a new definition of borders (which are natural, institutional, functional, or mixed); the second concerns the fact that the book applies (and, where necessary, develops) analytical tools, methods and models that are different from those used in other similar books. The objectives of this book are: to clarify whether existing management theories and methods can be effectively applied in an entity (which can be defined as a sovereign country, a region, a community, a culture, or a firm) as the latter increasingly interacts with the rest of the world; to develop qualitative and quantitative methods to help leaders make optimal decisions for their entity and, at the same time, to maximize the positive (or minimize the negative) effects of those decisions on the rest of the world; and to design workable cross-border cooperation plans and conflict-management schemes that allow policy-makers to better cope with the challenges and problems posed by our increasingly interactive world.
