Book Engineering and Design Practical Aspects of Applying Geostatistics at Hazardous Toxic and Radioactive Waste Sites

Download or read book Engineering and Design Practical Aspects of Applying Geostatistics at Hazardous Toxic and Radioactive Waste Sites written by Kisuk Cheung and published by . This book was released on 1997-06-01 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal purpose of this ETL is to introduce the reader to geostatistical techniques and to demonstrate their basic utility with respect to HTRW site investigations. The ETL also will include a discussion of statistical concepts that support the science of geostatistics. Practical aspects of geostatistical techniques will be discussed in two ways, First, practical references will be made, when appropriate, during the discussion of statistical concepts, and second, examples describing several aspects of the use of geostatistical techniques in HTRW site investigations will be presented and discussed in a section of this ETL specifically dedicated to providing working examples. This ETL also will include a brief literature and software review; review of geostatistical applications; comparison of information that is generated with geostatistical methods to that information obtained using classical statistical methods; and some more recent geostatistical methods, such as conditional simulation.

Book Geostatistical Error Management

Download or read book Geostatistical Error Management written by Jeffrey C. Myers and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1997-05-13 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Geostatistical Error Management Geostatistical modeling conceptsand techniques have become daily practice in mining operations. That's because these precise analytical tools help professionalsquantify uncertainty and make objective decisions in the face ofthorny "real world" challenges. Geostatistical Error Management isthe first book to apply these proven quantitative tools toenvironmental challenges. The centerpiece of this working guide isan innovative decision-making framework, known as geostatisticalerror management (GEM). GEM integrates the related areas of DataQuality Objectives, Sampling Theory & Practice, andGeostatistical Appraisal to create an entirely new set of toolsthat help you more accurately assess resources for collectingenvironmental data, analyze sources of error in sampling, andquantify the extent and levels of contamination at environmentallyimpacted sites needing remediation. This practical,results-oriented resource * Focuses on the environmental applications of geostatisticaltechniques and how they fit into today's regulatory, legal, andengineering environments * Provides step-by-step explanations for applying error managementtools at every stage of an environmental site assessment * Points the way to applying GEM to environmental work beyond siteevaluation and characterization Geostatistical Error Management will enable environmentalspecialists to perform assessments of hazardous waste andenvironmentally impacted sites more accurately and to confidentlymanage uncertainty and error at every phase of a remediationproject.

Book Geochemical Aspects of Radioactive Waste Disposal

Download or read book Geochemical Aspects of Radioactive Waste Disposal written by D. G. Brookins and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is an extremely voluminous literature on radioactive waste and its disposal, much in the form of government-sponsored research reports. To wade through this mountain of literature is indeed a tedious task, and it is safe to speculate that very few, if any, individuals have the time to examine each report that has been issued during the preceding ten years. This book attempts to summarize much of this literature. Further, many workers in the geosciences have not received training in the nuclear sciences, and many nuclear scientists could be better versed in geology. In this book an attempt is made to cover some background material on radioactive wastes and geotoxicity that may not be an integral part of a geologist's training, and background material on geology and geochemistry for the nuclear scientist. The geochemical material is designed for both the geoscientist and the nuclear scientist. There is no specific level for this book. Certainly, it should be useful to advanced undergraduates and graduates studying geology and nuclear science. It does not pretend to cover a tremendous amount of detail in all subjects, yet the references cited provide the necessary source materials for follow-up study. It is my intention that the reader of this book will have a better, broader understanding of the geochemical aspects of radioactive waste disposal than is otherwise available in anyone source.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sponsors constant publication of the latest soil and groundwater contamination studies. Editor J. Russell Boulding has compiled the most recent and the best of these documents in the EPA Environmental Assessment Sourcebook. This book is required reading for both the novice and the experienced environmental academic or technician. Boulding's selections address the basic concepts of contaminant behavior through the newest sampling techniques. The EPA Environmental Assessment Sourcebook is an essential and convenient tool for anyone on the cutting edge of contamination detection, monitoring, and hopefully, someday, prevention.
