This book was released on 2017 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The linguistic integration of adult migrants from one country to another from one language to another

Download or read book The linguistic integration of adult migrants from one country to another from one language to another written by Council of Europe and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The linguistic integration of migrants affects every aspect of settling in a new country (employment, health, etc.). The aim of this collection of texts is to propose a number of specific measures member states can take to help adult migrants become acquainted with the language of the host country. The main focus is on organising language courses that meet migrants’ real communication needs. It is not enough for authorities simply to consider the technical aspects of such courses, they should also design and conduct them in accordance with the fundamental values of the Council of Europe. A number of issues concerning the linguistic integration of adult migrants are presented here, beginning with the notion of linguistic integration itself. Family reunion, the nature of citizenship and the function of language tests, among others, are dealt with from the point of view of language and language use. Readers are invited to reflect on the type of language competences that need to be acquired as well as an appropriate use of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The collection also sets out approaches and instruments designed to assist in implementing effective policies.

V. 2008 The papers in this collection have been selected from over 800 presentations given at the XIIIth World Congress of Comparative Education Societies, held at the University of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, from 3 to 7 September 2007. The Congress was hosted on behalf of the WCCES by the Mediterranean Society of Comparative Education and in association with the International Association of Intercultural Education. For such an int- national gathering, it was appropriate that the theme chosen was ‘‘Living Together: Education and Intercultural Dialogue’’, providing scope for c- tributions by participating scholars, policy makers and practitioners in e- cation from some 70 countries. The presenters approached contemporary educational issues with knowledge and insights about a world characterized by the tensions and demands of global and local interests, by regional c- ?icts and post-con?ict deliberations, and by the global diaspora, with c- tural, religious and linguistic diversity within both small and large states. Only a very few papers could be included for this collection, but they rep- sent some of the key topics under discussion during the Congress. The papers were selected from the recommendations of the convenors of the 13 Thematic Groups, the keynote addresses and several symposia.

Book Globalisation and Comparative Education

Download or read book Globalisation and Comparative Education written by Joseph Zajda and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-24 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on discourses of globalisation in comparative education research and the politics of education reforms. It analyses and evaluates the shifts in methodological approaches to globalisation and education reforms, as reflected in comparative education research and their impact on education policy and pedagogy. The book covers topics such as globalisation and comparative education, globalisation as a multidimensional construct, methods and methodologies in comparative education, the moral face of post-structuralism, and school reforms in the age of globalisation. It offers a critical analysis of education policy reforms. The book demonstrates a complex nexus between globalisation, ideology and education reforms. On one hand, democratisation and progressive pedagogy is equated with equality, inclusion, equity, tolerance and human rights, while on the other hand, globalisation is perceived – by some critics at least – to be a totalising force that is widening the socio-economic status (SES) gap and cultural and economic capital between the rich and the poor, and bringing power, domination and control by corporate bodies and powerful political, economic and educational organisations. The perception of globalisation as dynamic and multi faceted processes clearly necessitates a multiple perspective approach in the study of comparative education globally. This book contributes in a very scholarly way, to a more holistic understanding of the nexus between globalisation, comparative education research and education reforms.

Book Globalization and Educational Reform

Download or read book Globalization and Educational Reform written by Martin Carnoy and published by Unesco. This book was released on 1999 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Globalisation puts most governments under pressure to reduce the growth of public spending on education and to find other sources of income for the expected expansion of education systems. In conflict with this is the shift of economic production to knowledge-based intensive products and processes, meaning that the demand for higher education is rising worldwide. In addition, the need for more highly educated low cost labour tends to expand women's educational opportunities, especially in countries where there was resistance to equal access to education for them. Globalised information networks mean the transformation of world culture, but many groups feel marginalised by the market values of this new culture.

Book Disinventing and Reconstituting Languages

Download or read book Disinventing and Reconstituting Languages written by Sinfree Makoni and published by Multilingual Matters. This book was released on 2007 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book questions assumptions about the nature of language. Looking at diverse contexts from sign languages in Indonesia to literacy practices in Brazil, the authors argue that unless we change and reconstitute the ways in which languages are taught and conceptualized, language studies will not be able to improve the social welfare of language users.

Book Linguistically Appropriate Practice

Download or read book Linguistically Appropriate Practice written by Roma Chumak-Horbatsch and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2012-09-01 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This path-breaking book provides a convincing argument for the importance of children's home languages and the benefits of dual- and multi-language learning. A new classroom practice known as Linguistically Appropriate Practice (LAP) offers guidance for those working with young children who arrive in childcare centres and schools with little or no proficiency in the classroom language. Linguistically Appropriate Practice details over fifty classroom activities that can be adapted to match both the developmental level of the children and the classroom curriculum. Intended for childcare staff, health care providers, settlement workers, speech and language pathologists, kindergarten and primary grade teachers, family resource workers, and literacy specialists, this book is an essential resource for preparing young children for the complex communication and literacy demands of the twenty-first century.
