Download or read book Environmental Pollution written by Vijay P Singh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-29 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book comprises select proceedings of the International Conference on Water, Environment, Energy and Society. The book is divided into five parts. The first part deals with some aspects of environmental pollution such as socio-economic environment assessment for sustainable development, environmental issues due to fire in coal Mines and its impact and suggestions for implementing precautionary and control measures, redevelopment of urban slum dwellings: issues & challenges, air and noise pollution in mega cities, importance of indoor environmental quality in green buildings. Part II discusses pollution indicators such as assessment and prediction of environmental noise, fuzzy logic based performance evaluation, fish biodiversity and its periodic reduction, effects of anthropogenic activities on fresh water ecosystems, and monitoring of air pollution. Part III focuses on generation of pollution namely biomedical waste generation and management, heavy metal leaching, etc. Water quality assessment is described in Part IV. The Part V presents water quality modeling. The book will be of interest to researchers and practitioners in the field of water resources, hydrology, environmental resources, agricultural engineering, watershed management, earth sciences, as well as those engaged in natural resources planning and management. Graduate students and those wishing to conduct further research in water and environment and their development and management will also find the book to be of value.

Download or read book Ecotoxicology of Depositional Sediments Athabasca River May and September 1993 written by Kristin Elizabeth Day and published by The Study. This book was released on 1995 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report describes and presents results from a project designed to test the toxicity of depositional sediments from the upper Athabasca River using freshwater benthic invertebrates in chronic exposure studies under laboratory conditions. The investigators performed additional analyses on the in-situ benthic invertebrate community structure to describe species distribution and abundance. The report includes description of the methods used to collect sediments and benthic invertebrates from depositional areas upstream and downstream from Hinton, the laboratory toxicity testing procedures, and the processing of samples for invertebrate analysis. The appendices include raw data, diversity indices, and summaries of total invertebrate counts.

Download or read book Watershed written by Stephen C. Lonergan and published by IDRC. This book was released on 2014-05-14 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Watershed describes the water crisis faced by Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories today; a crisis that will have much to do with the design and the success of the current peace proposals. The authors examine the geopolitics of water in the region, the economic importance, problems of water supply and water quality, and regional conflicts over water.

Download or read book Rising to the Surface written by William Oliver Karvinen and published by [Kingston, Ont.] : Centre for Resource Studies, Queen's University. This book was released on 1994 with total page 158 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report provides a science and management approach to the groundwater policy. It considers the implications of integrated land use and resource management as it affects groundwater, and their impact on sustainability and resource development activities, particularly those of the mining industry. The report discusses Federal and Provincial Government legislation and policy trends; the impacts of local governments and the public; and the impact of the mining industry and acid rock drainage.
Download or read book Water Quality Indices written by Tabassum Abbasi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-03-10 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers water quality indices (WQI) in depth – it describes what purpose they serve, how they are generated, what are their strengths and weaknesses, and how to make the best use of them. It is a concise and unique guide to WQIs for chemists, chemical/environmental engineers and government officials. Whereas it is easy to express the quantity of water, it is very difficult to express its quality because a large number of variables determine the water quality. WQIs seek to resolve the difficulty by translating a set of a large number of variables to a one-digit or a two-digit numeral. They are essential in communicating the status of different water resources in terms of water quality and the impact of various factors on it to policy makers, service personnel, and the lay public. Further they are exceedingly useful in the monitoring and management of water quality. With the importance of water and water quality increasing exponentially, the importance of this topic is also set to increase enormously because only with the use of indices is it possible to assess, express, communicate, and monitor the overall quality of any water source. - Provides a concise guide to WQIs: their purpose and generation - Compares existing methods and WQIs and outlines strengths and weaknesses - Makes recommendations on how the indices should be used and under what circumstances they apply
