Book Reforming the Chinese Electricity Supply Sector

Download or read book Reforming the Chinese Electricity Supply Sector written by Michael G. Pollitt and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-06-29 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chinese electricity sector is the largest in the world, covering well over 20% of the world's electricity supply. While many other countries liberalized their electricity systems in the 1990s, thereby creating competitive wholesale and retail electricity markets, China’s move towards liberalization has advanced at a slower pace – until now. Following the China State Council's publication of the No. 9 document on 'Deepening Reform of the Power Sector', this book reflects on the ambitious new round of reforms aimed at introducing competitive wholesale electricity markets and incentive regulation for its power grids. Written in collaboration with Hao Chen, Lewis Dale and Chung-Han Yang, this book provides lessons for China’s reforms from international experience, combining a detailed review of reforms from around the world with specific application to China and focuses on how the industrial price of electricity is determined in a liberalized power system.

Book China s Power Sector

Download or read book China s Power Sector written by John Wong and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-04-12 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China's power sector has performed impressively during the past twenty years in support of economic growth. Faced with the need to expand its power capacity, China is investing heavily in the construction of new power plants and self-financing capability. While the country still depends mainly on domestic capital funds to develop its power industry, foreign capital is increasingly sought to import power equipment and advanced technology. To bring in more capital, China has made efforts to attract foreign financial involvement, mainly in the form of multilateral and bilateral loans. Equally significant in the development of China's power sector are the establishment of regional power grids and the implementation of electricity tariff reform to tackle the problems of inefficient power distribution and usage.

Book China Power Sector

Download or read book China Power Sector written by China Knowledge Press and published by China Knowledge Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: China's power sector experienced accelerated growth after the mid - 1980s, with surging demand for electricity boosted by increased investment and residential consumption, both associated with market reforms. In the late 1990s, however, a temporary power oversupply was witnessed. It was mainly caused by the government's efforts to restructure its numerous State Owned Enterprises (SOEs), in which many big enterprises were closed. The 1997/1998 Asian financial crisis also worsened the situation. The growth pace of the power sector was therefore impeded. Foreign funded power plants faced increasing pressure to reduce prices and were asked to renegotiate their Power Purchasing Agreements (PPAs). As a result, many foreign investors either substantially scaled back operations or avoided new exposure. invest in China's power sector while others failed before? The answer is very simple: things have changed and one cannot afford to ignore this huge market. After entry to WTO in late 2001, China has increasingly become a workshop for the entire world. Foreign direct investment (FDI) surged to USD52.7 billion in 2002, and China is expected to replace the US as the world's No.1 FDI recipient. At the same time, the expansion of the power sector has lagged. Thus the sustainability of the state economy is under threat. In order to overcome the energy constraint, hefty investment will be needed. According to a two year research made by the International Energy Agency (IEA), nearly USD2000 billion investment will be required in the period 2001-2030. This provides new opportunities to foreign investors.

Book Electric Power and Energy in China

Download or read book Electric Power and Energy in China written by Zhenya Liu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-12-31 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The acute energy problems facing China today are characterized by their own histories and realities. Some have come about because of China's energy endowment and stage of development, while others have been created by a combination of domestic and global factors. Some are the results of an accumulation of longstanding contradictions, while others are new challenges posed by the new order. There are no "miracle cures" to solve these problems instantly. What is needed is a tireless enquiry, with goals, planning and procedures, guided by a clear energy strategy. With China's increasing dependence on foreign energy sources, and the global energy situation and greenhouse gas issue exerting an increasingly prohibiting effect on China's energy development, energy diplomacy has become an important component of Chinese diplomatic affairs. Based on a "broad energy outlook", this book studies and analyzes China's energy issues and energy strategies from the perspective of electric power. Discusses a variety of issues, including energy transportation and allocation, end-user consumption, markets, early warning and emergency, technical innovation As a leading player in the power and energy area, China’s strategies attracts global attention Proposes the innovative idea of "Macro Energy Perspective" As a key player in China's energy industrial circle, the author's perspective can help global audiences to understand China's energy strategies better Electric Power and Energy in China is ideal for government energy policy makers, engineers, scientists and enterprise managers to understand China’s strategy in electric power and energy. It is also a good reference for energy economics researchers, consultants and university students.

Book China as a Global Clean Energy Champion

Download or read book China as a Global Clean Energy Champion written by Philip Andrews-Speed and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-01-07 with total page 349 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book assesses China’s reputation as a global clean energy champion, and applies institutional and public policy theories to explain how the country has achieved so much and why there continue to be so many unintended consequences and constraints to progress. It considers the extent to which the government has successfully boosted the manufacture and deployment of low-carbon electricity generating infrastructure, cleaned up thermal power generation, and enhanced energy efficiency, dramatically constraining China’s rising carbon dioxide emissions, but also examines the substantial political and financial capital required to reinforce the predominantly administrative policy instruments and the mix of special interests and poor coordination that are endemic to the energy sector. Arguing that the current approach seems to be encountering ever diminishing returns, the book considers whether ongoing sector reforms and the new national emissions trading scheme can reinvigorate the nation’s clean energy trajectory.
