Book Assessing the Energy Efficiency of Pumps and Pump Units

Download or read book Assessing the Energy Efficiency of Pumps and Pump Units written by em. Dr.-Ing Bernd Stoffel and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-04-10 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assessing the Energy Efficiency of Pumps and Pump Units, developed in cooperation with Europump, is the first book available providing the background, methodology, and assessment tools for understanding and calculating energy efficiency for pumps and extended products (pumps+motors+drives). Responding to new EU requirements for pump efficiency, and US DOE exploratory work in setting pump energy efficiency guidelines, this book provides explanation, derivation, and illustration of PA and EPA methods for assessing energy efficiency. It surveys legislation related to pump energy efficiencies, provides background on pump and motor efficiencies, and describes the concept of Energy Efficiency Index (EEI) for circulators and single and multi-pump systems. The first book to cover Europump- sponsored research on energy efficiency in pumps, including coverage of new EU guidelines implemented in January 2015 Discusses Product Approach (PA) and Extended Product Approach (EPA) to assessing energy efficiency Derives and explains the Minimum Efficiency Index (MEI)

Book Reducing the Power Required for Irrigation

Download or read book Reducing the Power Required for Irrigation written by Katherine Anne Taylor and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 101 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents a mathematical model investigating the physics behind pressure compensating (PC) drip irrigation emitters and a design of a highly efficient solar powered centrifugal pump for small-acreage farmers drawing from shallow groundwater. The global community is facing a worsening crisis with regards to the water-energy agriculture nexus. Irrigation is a proven way to increase the agricultural productivity of a plot of land; however, with a growing population, it will be necessary to invest in methods of irrigation that are both energy- and water-efficient, and intensify the agricultural output per unit of land. Drip irrigation, a method of irrigation where water is delivered directly to the plant roots through a network of tubes and valves, is a highly water-efficient method that gives high yield per unit area. The current challenge to adoption facing drip irrigation is the high capital and operating costs. It is possible to cut these costs by developing a valve, called an emitter, that gives the desired flow rate at a lower pressure. This lower pressure in turn requires less energy from the pump, allowing for a smaller and less expensive pump, and even making a solar-powered system affordable for small-acreage farmers. In coming decades, it will become increasingly necessary to switch from fossil-fuel based energy to renewables, such as solar. For small acreage farmers in the developing world, this switch will not only alleviate the pains of paying the recurring and volatile costs for diesel fuel, it will also help to lighten the load on the electrical grid by those using electric pumps.

Book Energy in Farm Production

Download or read book Energy in Farm Production written by R.C. Fluck and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This last volume of the Energy in World Agriculture series is in many ways the series' Alpha and its Omega. It addresses the broad issues related to the use of energy in agricultural production, and also characterizes and quantifies the energy involvements of many agricultural production technologies. It is a compilation of descriptive and analytical information and design principles and data of energy use in this field. A significant aspect is the relationship between energy and agricultural productivity, increased knowledge and resulting improved management of energy-consuming operations on the farm. Information provided here has not been published elsewhere before. Throughout the book are examples of the important role that energy inputs have played in increasing productivity of the world's agricultural systems. Together with a revived interest in energy for agricultural production due to increases in energy costs, this volume meets that interest with valuable information and insights.

Book Irrigation Theory And Practice 2Nd Edn
