Book excerpt: This comprehensive resource presents activities, games and ideas to support the development of speech sounds in children aged 3-7 (or older if the child has learning difficulties). The book is divided into nine sections, including: Single sounds - p; short words - consonant + vowel, eg pea, pie; Longer words - consonant + vowel + consonant, eg peach, pin; even longer words - consonant + vowel + consonant + vowel, eg pepper, poppy, paper; and using phrases and words in sentences. Each section provides the opportunity for the child to hear the speech sound in isolation and in words before they try to say it (ie receptive and expressive activities). It includes: different activities to practise listening and saying the target sound/word; drilling games - ie the opportunity to hear the speech sound in isolation and in words and to say them in increasingly challenging sequences in a game format; games that can be played with the picture cards of the words the child is working on; and an auditory bombardment section composed of funny rhymes containing the words the child has been working on in the section. This flexible resource is interactive and aims to make speech sound work enjoyable, memorable and fun.

Book Power Play

Download or read book Power Play written by Tim Higgins and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2022-08-30 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A WALL STREET JOURNAL BUSINESS BESTSELLER • The riveting inside story of Elon Musk and Tesla's bid to build the world's greatest car—from award-winning Wall Street Journal tech and auto reporter Tim Higgins. “A deeply reported and business-savvy chronicle of Tesla's wild ride.” —Walter Isaacson, New York Times Book Review Tesla is the envy of the automotive world. Born at the start of the millennium, it was the first car company to be valued at $1 trillion. Its CEO, the mercurial, charismatic Elon Musk has become not just a celebrity but the richest man in the world. But Tesla’s success was far from guaranteed. Founded in the 2000s, the company was built on an audacious vision. Musk and a small band of Silicon Valley engineers set out to make a car that was quicker, sexier, smoother, and cleaner than any gas-guzzler on the road. Tesla would undergo a hellish fifteen years, beset by rivals—pressured by investors, hobbled by whistleblowers. Musk often found himself in the public’s crosshairs, threatening to bring down the company he had helped build. Wall Street Journal tech and auto reporter Tim Higgins had a front-row seat for the drama: the pileups, breakdowns, and the unlikeliest outcome of all, success. A story of impossible wagers and unlikely triumphs, Power Play is an exhilarating look at how a team of innovators beat the odds—and changed the future.

Book Grit

    Book Details:
  • Author : Angela Duckworth
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2016-05-03
  • ISBN : 1501111124
  • Pages : 350 pages

Download or read book Grit written by Angela Duckworth and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2016-05-03 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this instant New York Times bestseller, Angela Duckworth shows anyone striving to succeed that the secret to outstanding achievement is not talent, but a special blend of passion and persistence she calls “grit.” “Inspiration for non-geniuses everywhere” (People). The daughter of a scientist who frequently noted her lack of “genius,” Angela Duckworth is now a celebrated researcher and professor. It was her early eye-opening stints in teaching, business consulting, and neuroscience that led to her hypothesis about what really drives success: not genius, but a unique combination of passion and long-term perseverance. In Grit, she takes us into the field to visit cadets struggling through their first days at West Point, teachers working in some of the toughest schools, and young finalists in the National Spelling Bee. She also mines fascinating insights from history and shows what can be gleaned from modern experiments in peak performance. Finally, she shares what she’s learned from interviewing dozens of high achievers—from JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon to New Yorker cartoon editor Bob Mankoff to Seattle Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll. “Duckworth’s ideas about the cultivation of tenacity have clearly changed some lives for the better” (The New York Times Book Review). Among Grit’s most valuable insights: any effort you make ultimately counts twice toward your goal; grit can be learned, regardless of IQ or circumstances; when it comes to child-rearing, neither a warm embrace nor high standards will work by themselves; how to trigger lifelong interest; the magic of the Hard Thing Rule; and so much more. Winningly personal, insightful, and even life-changing, Grit is a book about what goes through your head when you fall down, and how that—not talent or luck—makes all the difference. This is “a fascinating tour of the psychological research on success” (The Wall Street Journal).

From offense to defense to transition play and special situations, Rose covers every tactical facet of the game and adds his insights for improving execution in each. He presents popular offensive systems—the Triangle, LA, Flex, Dribble Drive, and Motion—as well as man-to-man and zone defensive schemes, with suggestions for when and how to deploy and adjust them. Rose also teaches all the essential individual skills required for performing those tactics proficiently and consistently, with special tips for executing when the game is on the line. Perimeter- and post-specific instruction and drills will help players build on their skills through practice. Coach Rose also shares his Performance Rating System—a tool he’s used time and again to develop some of the game’s top players. Rose explains not only how to identify strengths and weaknesses but also how to use that information to maximize the potential of individual players and the team. Download or read book Buy A Game written by Dre Baldwin and published by Work On Your Game Inc. . This book was released on 2011-12-25 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "1. Stop Playing Scared. 2. Buy A Game. " What you read above is the best life advice I've ever been given. It was told to me by a fellow classmate in the 8th grade. And I've been using it ever since. I started playing basketball at age 14, after failed tries at football (equipment too costly) and baseball (couldn't hit a fastball or field a ground ball). I was a complete bum. Everyone in Mt. Airy was better than me - male AND female. I didn't make my high school varsity team until my senior year. I scored 2 points per game. How, then, did I get recruited to play at Penn State Altoona 2 summers later? How did I develop the game to sign my first professional basketball contract only 9 years after I started playing? This book is the story of how. I have had the idea of writing a book for a while now, and the beauty of the Internet is that anyone can put their work out there -- websites, workout videos, books -- freely without having to navigate through the traditional gatekeepers of self-expression. The Internet also allows one to experiment and do trial runs of their work, like this book: I made it free to all because the most important part of putting this out is your response; I know I can get a lot better at this writing thing and your critiques will be my first step in doing so. What you are about to read is my story as a basketball player -- only as it pertains to basketball -- from the time I began playing the game up to and through my college years. It is to be hoped that you find it interesting, insightful, descriptive, and entertaining. If so you should tell me. If you don’t, I want to know about that too, and why. Speak your mind. Enjoy. #WOYG
