Book Poverty Alleviation Through Self Help Groups in Anantapur District of Andhra Pradesh

Download or read book Poverty Alleviation Through Self Help Groups in Anantapur District of Andhra Pradesh written by R. Neelaiah and published by Anchor Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2017-08 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In developing economies and particularly in rural areas, many activities that would be classified in the developed world as financial are not monetized: That is, there is no money used to carry them out. This is often the case when people need the services money can provide but do not have dispensable funds required for those services, forcing them to revert to other means of acquiring them. People find creative and often collaborative ways to meet the needs, primarily through creating and exchanging different forms of non-cash value. Common substitutes for cash vary from country to country but typically include livestock, grains, jewelry and precious metals. In the 2000s, the micro finance industry’s objective is to satisfy the unmet demand on a much larger scale, and to play a role in reducing poverty. While much progress has been made in developing a viable commercial micro finance sector in the last few decades, several issues remain that need to be addressed before the industry will be able to satisfy massive worldwide demand.

Book Dalits Struggle for Social Justice in Andhra Pradesh 1956 2008

Download or read book Dalits Struggle for Social Justice in Andhra Pradesh 1956 2008 written by Akepogu Jammanna and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-12-14 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The complete alienation of Dalits from resources like land, water, and agricultural implements has led to the collective demand for an equal share in productivity. This book discusses the range of socio-economic and cultural problems faced by the Dalit community. The movement advancing the rights of Dalits took place both before and after independence, however they varied in intensity, and concerned land ownership and fair wages, self-respect, social dignity, and the demand for equal rights. This movement appeared to have significantly changed the very mindset and attitude of upper caste people to restrain themselves and not to resort to any discrimination or humiliation of Dalits. However, this seems to have been only a temporary phenomenon, and the practice of suppression and humiliation continues today. This book explores the circumstances of Dalits in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, and the current efforts attempting to achieve more social equality for the caste here.

The book gives some forcefully-expressed criticisms of current methods of assessing land degradation and placing an economic value on land. It should be read by all involved in rural development, including scientists, economists, geographers, sociologists, planners, and students of development studies. It provides a summary and perspective of the field of land resources, and suggests improvements needed to conserve resources for future generations. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no peace with hunger. Only promises and promises and no fulfillment. If there is no job, there is no peace. If there is nothing to cook in the pot, there is no peace. - Oscar, a 57-year-old man, El Gorri n, Colombia They want to construct their houses near the road, and they cannot do that if they do not have peace with their enemies. So peace and the road have developed a symbiotic relation. One cannot live without the other. . . . - A community leader from a conflict-affected community on the island of Mindanao, Philippines Most conflict studies focus on the national level, but this volume focuses on the community level. It explores how communities experience and recover from violent conflict, and the surprising opportunities that can emerge for poor people to move out of poverty in these harsh contexts. 'Rising from the Ashes of Conflict' reveals how poor people s mobility is shaped by local democracy, people s associations, aid strategies, and the local economic environment in over 100 communities in seven conflict-affected countries, including Afghanistan. The findings suggest the need to rethink postconflict development assistance. This is the fourth volume in a series derived from the Moving Out of Poverty study, which explores mobility from the perspectives of poor people in more than 500 communities across 15 countries.

Book POVERTY LIVELIHOOD AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

Download or read book POVERTY LIVELIHOOD AND ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES written by Ashok Kundu and published by Palmview Publishing. This book was released on 2017-08-01 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The linkage between poverty, livelihood, and the environment is always multifaceted and often complex. The degradation of the environment has been plunging millions of people into poverty. The last century witnessed rapid progress in the application of science and technology, which resulted in improvement in livelihood, reduction in poverty, enhanced life expectancy and huge growth in consumption which in turn created pressure on the environment. Thus, the planet's capacity to sustain is eroding with degrading agricultural land, shrinking forests, diminishing supply of clean water and other related issues. Apart from food and water, clean and affordable access to energy is one key issue to a decent livelihood. The tradeoffs that policymakers are facing nowadays are rapid reduction in poverty and improving livelihood without harming the environment. These draw our focus to address environmental issues that matter to the livelihood of the poor which are critical for poverty reduction. Strengthening the link between poverty, livelihood, and the environment can promote sustainable development outcomes. The book is a collection of articles on comprehensive research, case studies, empirical and theoretical papers on these issues. The chapters of the book attempted to analyze the links and identify approaches that can promote positive outcomes. The contributors here tried to highlight a number of key challenges that need to be addressed in the process of policy formulation and government investment programmes. It may serve as an important resource for academics, researchers, professionals, students and policy-makers.
