Book Pourquoi tudier la litt rature

Download or read book Pourquoi tudier la litt rature written by Vincent Jouve and published by Armand Colin. This book was released on 2010 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Petite cologie des tudes litt raires written by Jean-Marie Schaeffer and published by Éditions Thierry Marchaisse. This book was released on 2012-06-14 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Literature Pedagogy and Curriculum in Secondary Education

Download or read book Literature Pedagogy and Curriculum in Secondary Education written by M. Martin Guiney and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-31 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book argues for the importance of literature studies using the historical debate between the disinterested disciplines (“art for art’s sake”) and utilitarian or productive disciplines. Forgoing the traditional argument that literature is a unique spiritual resource, as well as the utilitarian thought that literary pedagogy promotes skills that are relevant to a post-industrial economy, Guiney suggests that literary pedagogy must enable mutual access between the classroom and the outside world. It must recognize the need for every human being to become a conscious producer of culture rather than a consumer, through an active process of literary reading and writing. Using the history of French curricular reforms as a case study for his analysis, Guiney provides a contextualized redefinition of literature’s social value.

Book The Seduction of Fiction

Download or read book The Seduction of Fiction written by Jean-François Vernay and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 113 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By meshing psychology with literary analysis, this book inspires us to view the reading of fictional works as an emotional and seductive affair between reader and writer. Arguing that current teaching practices have contributed to the current decline in the study of literature, Jean-François Vernay’s plea brings a refreshing perspective by seeking new directions and conceptual tools to highlight the value of literature. Interdisciplinary in focus and relevant to timely discussions of the vitality between emotion and literary studies, particularly within the contexts of psychology, affect studies, and cognitive studies, this book will open up a space in which the formation of our emotions can be openly examined and discussed.

Book The Ecology of Attention

Download or read book The Ecology of Attention written by Yves Citton and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2017-01-09 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Information overload, the shallows, weapons of mass distraction, the googlization of minds: countless commentators condemn the flood of images and information that dooms us to a pathological attention deficit. In this new book, cultural theorist Yves Citton goes against the tide of these standard laments to offer a new perspective on the problem of attention in the digital age. Phrases like paying attention and investing ones attention attest to our mistaken belief that attention can be conceptualized in narrow economic terms. We are constantly drawn towards attempts to quantify and commodify attention, even down to counting the number of 'likes' a picture receives on Facebook or a video on YouTube. By contrast, Citton argues that we should conceptualize attention as a kind of ecology and examine how the many different environments to which we are exposed – from advertising to literature, search engines to performance art – condition our attention in different ways. In a world where the demands on our attention are ever-increasing, this timely and original book will be of great interest to students and scholars in media and communications and in literary and cultural studies, and to anyone concerned about the long-term consequences of the profusion of images as well as digital content in the age of the internet.

Book Experimentation and the Lyric in Contemporary French Poetry

Download or read book Experimentation and the Lyric in Contemporary French Poetry written by Jeff Barda and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-10-17 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimentation and the Lyric in Contemporary French Poetry offers a new theoretical approach and historical perspective on the remarkable upsurge in creative poetic practices in France that have challenged traditional definitions of poetry and of the lyric. Focusing on the work of Pierre Alferi, Olivier Cadiot, Emmanuel Hocquard, Franck Leibovici, Anne Portugal and Denis Roche, this book provides an analysis of the most influential poets in French poetry of the last few decades. It contextualizes the theoretical models that inform their investigations, analyzing them alongside the history of the avant-garde and the heated theoretical debates that have taken place over whether to continue or bring an end to the lyric. Systematically addressing the various strategies employed by these poets and drawing on reception theory and cognitive studies, Jeff Barda argues that French radical poetics re-evaluates the lyric in cognitive terms beyond the personal. This book is essential reading for anyone interested in twenty-first-century forms of experimental writing and the connections between literature and the arts today.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 2012 commemoration ceremonies included strange bedfellows, as the year marked the 50th anniversary of the deaths of both Marilyn Monroe and William Faulkner. The Faulkner commemoration events were an opportunity for scholars to honor not just the memory of the writer, but also the memory of dear departed members of the “Faulkner community” – a community of past readers and lovers of Faulkner’s oeuvre. Divided into three parts, this collection first focuses on ways of teaching Faulkner, and then endeavors to show how the Mississippi writer made use of his knowledge of other writers to give shape to his craft and later help others. The last section puts Faulkner into perspective by bringing together new ways of reading his works and new voices that echo his. The twenty-first century shows how Faulkner’s fiction can be dislodged from its traditional moorings, dislocated and placed in movement, and transformed and tutored into new meanings and significance. This volume is a tribute to the memory of Noel Polk, André Bleikasten and Michel Gresset, pioneers in charting the course of the Faulkner journey.

Book New Methodological Approaches to Foreign Language Teaching

Download or read book New Methodological Approaches to Foreign Language Teaching written by Thomas H. Schmidt and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2017-06-23 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores how the traditional academic disciplines of linguistics, translation, literature and cultural studies can contribute to, or be integrated into, the teaching of a foreign language by means of innovative methodologies, techniques and instruments. The book begins with a selection of essays on applied linguistics that share some significant findings in the context of second or foreign language acquisition. It then examines the ways in which linguistics, translation theory, literature and cultural studies are brought into the foreign language classroom not just as objects of study but also as vehicles for language-learning. By presenting studies on four main foreign languages, English, Spanish, French and German, the collection offers, to the foreign language profession, an opportunity for the sharing and comparison of strategies across languages at both the secondary and higher education level. The text is a valuable resource for language teachers with a more philologically-oriented background who would like to learn how to apply their research knowledge and experience to the design and implementation of new methodological approaches.

Book French Ecocritique

Download or read book French Ecocritique written by Stephanie Posthumus and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2017-10-31 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: French Écocritique is the first book-length study of the culturally specific ways in which contemporary French literature and theory raise questions about nature and environment. Stephanie Posthumus’s ground-breaking work brings together thinkers such as Guattari, Latour, and Serres with recent ecocritical theories to complicate what might otherwise become a reductive notion of "French ecocriticism." Working across contemporary philosophy and literature, the book defines the concept of the ecological as an attentiveness to specific nature-culture contexts and to a text’s many interdiscursive connections. Posthumus identifies four key concepts, ecological subjectivity, ecological dwelling, ecological politics, and ecological ends, for changing how we think about human-nature relations. French Écocritique highlights the importance of moving beyond canonical ecocritical texts and examining a diversity of cultural and literary traditions for new ways of imagining the environment.
