Download or read book Responsibility to Protect written by Rama Mani and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-03 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume explores in a novel and challenging way the emerging norm of the Responsibility to Protect (R2P), initially adopted by the United Nations World Summit in 2005 following significant debate throughout the preceding decade. This work seeks to uncover whether this norm and its founding values have resonance and grounding within diverse cultures and within the experiences of societies that have directly been torn apart by mass atrocity crimes. The contributors to this collection analyze the responsibility to protect through multiple disciplines—philosophy, religion and spirituality, anthropology, and aesthetics in addition to international relations and law—to explore what light alternative perspectives outside of political science and international relations shed upon this emerging norm. In each case, the disciplinary analysis emanates from the global South and from scholars located within countries that experienced violent political upheaval. Hence, they draw upon not only theory but also the first-hand experience with conscience-shocking crimes. Their retrospective and prospective analyses could and should help shape the future implementation of R2P in accordance with insights from vastly different contexts. Offering a cutting edge contribution to thinking in the area, this is essential reading for all those with an interest in humanitarian intervention, peace and conflict studies, critical security studies and peacebuilding.

Download or read book Belle de Zuylen Isabelle de Charri re written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2006-01-01 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. As a Dutch woman who spent half her life in Switzerland and chose French as her writing language, Belle de Zuylen / Isabelle de Charrière parades a defiant attitude towards the constraints of the literary field. To read with care her letters, her novels, pamphlets and plays means accepting some modifications to our picture of the Enlightenment, and obliges us to question the limits of the field of literary criticism such as it has been structured since the nineteenth century, that is, along the lines of national canons. This bilingual volume (English and French) contains articles based on contributions to the international congress that was organized at Utrecht University in April 2005 on the occasion of the bicentennial of the author’s death.
Download or read book L historiographie de l Eglise des premiers si cles written by Bernard Pouderon and published by Editions Beauchesne. This book was released on 2001 with total page 612 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Correspondance entre Fran ois Laydevant et Albert Perbal 1927 1952 written by Eugène Lapointe and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-05-18 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the 25 years correspondence of a Roman Catholic missionary, Fr. François Laydevant, who worked in Lesotho from 1905 to 1954, with a Roman Catholic missiologist, Fr. Albert Perbal, based in Rome, Italy. The exchange of letters was provoked by the missiologist who needed direct information from the mission field for his own research and teaching, and first of all in order to fulfil his role of consultant with the Institute for the Study of African Languages and Cultures in London and the Conference Romaine des Missions Catholiques d'Afrique in Rome. The main result of the correspondence, apart from fulfilling the above stated purpose, was to propel Fr. Laydevant into fruitful anthropological, ethnological and historical research into Lesotho and its people. The correspondence deals with many contemporary missiological problems of the time. It is also a primary source for the history of the Church in Lesotho, in particular the Roman Catholic Church.
