Book excerpt: This report contains documentation for four computer programs used in the imperfection sensitivity analysis of cylindrical shells. The four programs are based upon Donnell's equation for cylindrical shells. The formulation of each program is worked in detail so others may make modification. Input and output instructions, together with the program listings, are provided. This report is in two volumes. Volume I discusses the development and applications of the programs, and Volume II is the user's manual.

Book Stability and Vibrations of Thin Walled Composite Structures

Download or read book Stability and Vibrations of Thin Walled Composite Structures written by Haim Abramovich and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2017-05-29 with total page 772 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stability and Vibrations of Thin-Walled Composite Structures presents engineering and academic knowledge on the stability (buckling and post buckling) and vibrations of thin walled composite structures like columns, plates, and stringer stiffened plates and shells, which form the basic structures of the aeronautical and space sectors. Currently, this knowledge is dispersed in several books and manuscripts, covering all aspects of composite materials. The book enables both engineers and academics to locate valuable, up-to-date knowledge on buckling and vibrations, be it analytical or experimental, and use it for calculations or comparisons. The book is also useful as a textbook for advanced-level graduate courses. Presents a unified, systematic, detailed and comprehensive overview of the topic Contains contributions from leading experts in the field Includes a dedicated section on testing and experimental results

Book Resolution Of The Twentieth Century Conundrum In Elastic Stability

Download or read book Resolution Of The Twentieth Century Conundrum In Elastic Stability written by Isaac E Elishakoff and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2014-05-29 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There have been stability theories developed for beams, plates and shells — the most significant elements in mechanical, aerospace, ocean and marine engineering. For beams and plates, the theoretical and experimental values of buckling loads are in close vicinity. However for thin shells, the experimental predictions do not conform with the theory, due to presence of small geometric imperfections that are deviations from the ideal shape. This fact has been referred to in the literature as ‘embarrassing’, ‘paradoxical’ and ‘perplexing’. Indeed, the popular adage, “In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is”, very much applies to thin shells whose experimental buckling loads may constitute a small fraction of the theoretical prediction based on classical linear theory; because in practice, engineers use knockdown factors that are not theoretically substantiated. This book presents a uniform approach that tames this prima-donna-like and capricious behavior of structures that has been dubbed the ‘imperfection sensitivity’ — thus resolving the conundrum that has occupied the best minds of elastic stability throughout the twentieth century.

Book Buckling And Postbuckling Structures Experimental Analytical And Numerical Studies

Download or read book Buckling And Postbuckling Structures Experimental Analytical And Numerical Studies written by Brian G Falzon and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2008-05-23 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an in-depth treatment of the study of the stability of engineering structures. Contributions from internationally recognized leaders in the field ensure a wide coverage of engineering disciplines in which structural stability is of importance, in particular the analytical and numerical modelling of structural stability applied to aeronautical, civil, marine and offshore structures. The results from a number of comprehensive experimental test programs are also presented, thus enhancing our understanding of stability phenomena as well as validating the analytical and computational solution schemes presented. A variety of structural materials are investigated with special emphasis on carbon-fibre composites, which are being increasingly utilized in weight-critical structures. Instabilities at the meso- and micro-scales are also discussed. This book will be particularly relevant to professional engineers, graduate students and researchers interested in structural stability./a

Book Uncertainty Modeling in Finite Element Fatigue and Stability of Systems

Download or read book Uncertainty Modeling in Finite Element Fatigue and Stability of Systems written by Achintya Haldar and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1997 with total page 437 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The functionality of modern structural, mechanical and electrical or electronic systems depends on their ability to perform under uncertain conditions. Consideration of uncertainties and their effect on system behavior is an essential and integral part of defining systems. In eleven chapters, leading experts present an overview of the current state of uncertainty modeling, analysis and design of large systems in four major areas: finite and boundary element methods (common structural analysis techniques), fatigue, stability analysis, and fault-tolerant systems. The content of this book is unique; it describes exciting research developments and challenges in emerging areas, and provide a sophisticated toolbox for tackling uncertainty modeling in real systems.
