Book Carbonate Platform Slopes A Record of Changing Conditions

Download or read book Carbonate Platform Slopes A Record of Changing Conditions written by Hildegard Westphal and published by Springer. This book was released on 2008-01-03 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Periplatform slope sediments from the Bahamas serve as an example for a small-scale sedimentologic record of environmental changes. Carbonate platforms react sensitively to sea-level fluctuations. Therefore, sediments deposited on the slope during lowstands differ in composition from highstand deposits. A second focus is the early diagenetic alteration and cementation of these sediments with their high diagenetic potential. This book contributes to and discusses new developments in carbonate sedimentology such as the concepts of highstand shedding and early burial diagenesis, which also have an impact on reservoir studies.

Book Principles of Practical Tectonic Analysis of Cratonic Regions

Download or read book Principles of Practical Tectonic Analysis of Cratonic Regions written by Henry Lyatsky and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-04-10 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Steep crystalline-basement faults, commonly indicated by potential-field anomalies, played a crucial role in evolution of continental cratonic platforms. In the Phanerozoic Western Canada Sedimentary Province, history of crustal block movements and warps is reconstructed from the distribution of depocenters, lithofacies and structures in structural-formational étages in sedimentary cover. Each étage is a rock succession formed during a particular tectonic stage; regional tectonic restructuring closes each stage, and the next stage represents a new tectonic regime. Practical tectonic analysis, based on observation of rocks and geophysical data, is a reliable guide for deciphering a region's geologic history and for resource exploration.

Download or read book Wavelets in the Geosciences written by Roland Klees and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2000-03-06 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains state-of-the-art continuous wavelet analysis of one and more dimensional (geophysical) signals. Special attention is given to the reconaissance of specific properties of a signal. It also contains an extension of standard wavelet approximation to the application of so-called second generation wavelets for efficient representation of signals at various scales even on the sphere and more complex geometries. Furthermore, the book discusses the application of harmonic (spherical) wavelets in potential field analysis with emphasis on the gravity field of the Earth. Many examples are given for practical application of these tools; to support the text exercises and demonstrations are available on the Web.

Book Coastal Erosion

    Book Details:
  • Author : Roger H. Charlier
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 1998
  • ISBN : 9783540600220
  • Pages : 372 pages

Download or read book Coastal Erosion written by Roger H. Charlier and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1998 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The coastal zone is subject to strong pressures from a large number of users. Populations are migrating to it in large numbers. Industry wants to exploit it for its space, water and manpower. Aggregate miners want to exploit mineral resources and health centers are multiplying. It is a favorite area for tourism and recreation worldwide. The zone can boom economically. However, coastlines are progressively receding worldwide, making the zone fragile, vulnerable, and unstable. The book presents methods of coastal protection and beach restoration and offers solutions to the various problems.

Book Reactive Flow Modeling of Hydrothermal Systems

Download or read book Reactive Flow Modeling of Hydrothermal Systems written by Michael Kühn and published by Springer. This book was released on 2004-03-24 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book introduces the topic of geochemical modeling of fluids in subsurface and hydrothermal systems. The intention is to serve as a textbook for graduate students in aqueous, environmental and groundwater geochemistry, despite the fact that its focus is on the special topic of geochemistry in hydrothermal systems, it also provides new insights for experienced researchers with respect to the topic of reactive transport. The overall purpose is to give the reader an understanding of the processes that control the chemical composition of waters in hydrothermal systems and to highlight the interfaces between chemistry, geothermics and hydrogeology. From the reviews: "..is a nice, compact introduction to the principles of modeling coupled fluid flow and fluid-mineral reactions in active geothermal systems, as used for heating and electricity generation." ( Christoph A. Heinrich, ECONOMIC GEOLOGY, June 2004)

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 'sedimentary cover' refers to the stratified rocks of youngest Proterozoic and Phanerozoic age that rest upon the largely crystalline basement rocks of the continental interior. Book Submarine Massflow Sedimentation

Download or read book Submarine Massflow Sedimentation written by Tore M. Løseth and published by Springer. This book was released on 1999 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Turbidite sandstone successions are common elements of the stratigraphic content of sedimentary basins, and are important hydrocarbon reservoirs in many parts of the world. This book addresses the important issue of mass-flow sedimentation modelling in the framework of basin-fill dynamics and sequence stratigraphy. The proposed computer algorithm, based on the slope instability criterion and DEMOSTRAT's diffusion equation, can be used to predict the timing and spatial effects of mass-flow sedimentation in a sedimentary basin under conditions specified by the modeller. This volume is for researchers, lecturers and postgraduate students. It will be of particular interest to petroleum geologists and those working for oil companies concerned with exploration of deep-marine siliciclastic successions for hydrocarbon reserves.
