Download or read book Semiconductor Lasers II written by Eli Kapon and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1999-01-12 with total page 398 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents state-of-the-art information on several important material systems and device structures employed in modern semiconductor lasers. The first two chapters discuss several III-V, II-VI, and VI-VI compound semiconductor material systems employed in diode lasers whose emission spectra cover the range from the blue to the mid-infrared. Subsequent chapters describe the elaboration of special laser structures designed for achieving narrow spectral linewidths and wavelength tunability, as well as high power emission devices. The last chapter covers the development of surface emitting diode lasers, particularly vertical cavity structures. In all five chapters, the underlying device physics as well as the state-of-the-art and future trends are discussed. This book introduces the non-expert to the design and fabrication issues involved in the development of these important laser devices. In addition, it reviews the current status of the different material systems and cavity configurations for the benefit of readers engaged in research in this field. Useful background material related to the fundamentals of lasing in semiconductors can be found in the companion volume, Semiconductor Lasers I: Fundamentals. - Covers important recent advances in materials, design, fabrication, and device structure of semiconductor lasers - aspects not covered in previously existing literature - Introduces the non-expert to the subject - Useful for professionals engaged in research and development - Numerous schematic and data-containing illustrations - Written by leading experts in the field

Download or read book Ion Exchange in Single Crystals for Integrated Optics and Optoelectronics written by Yu N. Korkishko and published by Cambridge Int Science Publishing. This book was released on 1999 with total page 531 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book addresses many problems of ion exchange processes in LiNbO3, LiTaO3 and KTiOPO4 ferroelectrics and II-VI semiconductor single crystals for integrated optics applications. The authors start with the fundamentals of ion exchange processes in solids (Chapter 1). Chapter 1 can be considered also as an enlarged introduction to the book. Starting with Chapter 2, the general properties of LiNbO3 and LiTaO3 crystals, the methods used to study optical waveguides in these crystals as well as advanced preparation methods of optical waveguides are reviewed. Chapters 3, 4 and 5 are devoted to recent progress in the ion exchange processes in LiNbO3, LiTaO3 and KTiOPO4 crystals, respectively, and Chapter 6 summarizes the main applications of ion-exchanged waveguides in modern integrated optics. Finally, Chapter 7 deals with recently established ion exchange processes in II-VI semiconductors.
Download or read book Ultrahigh Speed Optical Transmission Technology written by Hans-Georg Weber and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-12-28 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a detailed description of all the aspects of ultrahigh speed optical transmission technology. Ultrahigh-speed optical transmission technology is a key technology for increasing communication capacity. The devices developed for ultrahigh-speed optical transmission are not limited to communication applications only. They are key devices for high-speed optical signal processing, i.e. monitoring, measurement and control, and will thus give a wide technological basis for innovative science and technology. All these aspects of ultrahigh-speed optical transmission technology are described in detail in this book.

Download or read book New Trends in Optical Soliton Transmission Systems written by Akira Hasegawa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 483 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book summarizes the proceedings of the invited talks presented at the International Symposium on New Trends in Optical Soliton Transmission Systems held in Kyoto during November 18 - 21, 1997. As a result of worldwide demand for ultra high bitrate transmissions and increased scientific interest from the soliton community, research on optical solitons in fibres has made remarkable progress in recent years. In view of these trends, the Research Group for Optical Soliton Communications (ROSC), chaired by Akira Hasegawa, was established in Japan in April 1995 to promote collaboration and information exchange among communication service companies, industries and academic circles in the theory and application of optical solitons. This symposium was organized as a part of the ROSC activities. As with the 1 st ROSC symposium, this symposium attracted enthusiastic response from worldwide researchers involved in the subject of soliton based communications and intensive discussions were held throughout the symposium. Particular emphases were made to dispersion managements of soliton transmission. I would like to note that in the }'t symposium the (adiabatic) dispersion managements just began to appear in reducing radiation at amplifiers and reducing collision effects in WDM system. These have become standard this time, but in addition new, non-adiabatic dispersion managements have been introduced independently by various scientists all over the world.
