Most profoundly, however, O’Donohue explains “blessing” as a way of life, as a lens through which the whole world is transformed. Download or read book Double Blessing written by Mark Batterson and published by Multnomah. This book was released on 2019-10-15 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God doesn't bless us to raise our standard of living. God blesses us to raise our standard of giving, and that's where true joy is found. The New York Times bestselling author of Chase the Lion challenges us not to settle for half of what God offers when it comes to blessings—we are BLESSED to BLESS. His discovery started with a simple experiment. Whenever Batterson received a blessing, he would give a similar blessing away. If someone paid him a compliment or gave him a gift or went out of their way to help him, he would return the favor by doing something similar for someone else. We flip the blessing by blessing others in the way God has blessed us. That’s how the blessing becomes a double blessing. It turns giving into a game—one we can’t win because God will always outgive us! It’s an ancient truth found within the Abrahamic covenant: “I will bless you . . . and you will be a blessing.” In other words, we are blessed to bless. The first blessing is receiving, but it doesn’t end there. The second blessing is giving it away! That’s the double blessing. And that’s where double joy is found. In a day and age where the idea of blessing has been reduced to a hashtag (#blessed), Batterson challenges readers to pursue true, God-glorifying blessing and experience an exponential impact by participating in the double blessing. Don’t settle for half of what God offers. Discover how you can both get it and give it . . . in Double Blessing.

Book 3 Principles for Experiencing the Blessings of God

Download or read book 3 Principles for Experiencing the Blessings of God written by Olumide Oladele and published by . This book was released on 2020-03-24 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The blessings of God are for His children. It is the expression of His goodness. They are on the merit of the substitutionary sacrifice of Jesus. They are not rewards but the gifts of His love. God is a giver who liberally blesses without holding off his outstretched arms of love because of our shortcomings. It is the pleasure of God to bless and our heart must be positioned rightly to receive the flow of his released blessings. The challenge is that God as a giver has played his part when He gave us Jesus, but it must take a positioning on the part of the receiver to enjoy what God has released. He freely gave His son and has freely given us all things. This according to the scriptures is the riches of God given to the believer in Christ Jesus. In this book, the part we have to play as the receiver of the blessings of God is clearly stated. Our ability to receive is govern by principles; these are eternal truths that cannot fail and they positioned us for the flow of divine blessings.Faith, Obedience and Wisdom are principal things and until a man engaged them, his life stays without visible progress. The revelation of these truths will position you in the place where all of God's blessings become yours experientially.

  • Pages : 160 pages

Download or read book God Bless the NHS written by Roger Taylor and published by Faber & Faber. This book was released on 2013-03-15 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The National Health Service, described by Nigel Lawson as Britain's only 'national religion', has never been more popular. So why is the government so desperate to reform it? Last year, the Office of National Statistics reported higher public satisfaction with the NHS than at any time since its foundation. In a 2012 survey of developed countries, the UK showed the highest public support of its health system. Politicians can hardly be surprised then, when their plans to reforms are met with public dismay and professional fury. This year has seen one of the most bruising political battles ever fought over the future of the NHS. The twenty-two month fight to push the NHS and Social Care Act through parliament prompted the most widespread political campaign by doctors since Aneurin Bevan established the NHS in 1948. It cost the coalition government dearly and shredded the reputation of the Secretary of State for Health. So why did they do it? God Bless the NHS looks at the ideology behind the current reforms and the reasons why the government decided to take on the nation's most treasured institution. Roger Taylor looks equivocally at those who support and oppose the new system, and at the patchy history of attempts to reform the NHS and the likelihood of the success this time round. Finally, it addresses the political failure at the heart of the problem and the inevitable conflict when politics and medicine mix.

Book excerpt: True leaders enlarge their followers. Fake leaders diminish them. But when a true leader is the follower of an infinite and ever expansive God, that leader is tapped into infinitely abounding resource. That is a double blessing for all those graciously affected down the line. This is the story of such a leader. He is Dr. Pastor Oscar D. Epps, Sr, the founding senior pastor of Community Missionary Baptist Church of DeSoto and Cedar Hill, Texas, once a fledgling gathering of 28 members, formed on Valentine's Day, February 14th in 1993 and now, a megachurch in two locations with home base church membership of more than 3,000, but ministering to thousands more around the world. My (Phillips) connection with this congregation dates back to January 2021 through an invitation to be a guest on an innovative discussion program of the church, "Strike Back". This program engages the congregants and the broader virtual community with topics that were controversial, yet relevant, such as social justice, domestic violence, cultural intelligence, church attendance, the Tulsa Massacre, and many more. This initiation to the church allowed me to get a rare glimpse of its commitment to be culturally relevant at a time when other church leaders chose the path of political correctness. Since I became a participant-observer by virtue of subsequently accepting a staff position with CMBC, I embarked upon a curious investigation of this missional experiment. This church is on the cutting edge of change. Everything is changing from technology and finances, mission and vision, worship attitudes, all the way to how it approaches evangelism and outreach. There is nothing in our lives that is not in some state of flux. For the most part, the many congregations have been doing things the same way for decades and, in some places, centuries! CMBC discovered that in order to remain relevant, reach the masses, and not be left behind, it must be on the cutting-edge of innovation and change. Yet, one thing remains constant and static. It is the love for people that has become the mantra of both pastor and people. Tina Turner, in a biographical film (1993) asked the tongue-in-cheek question, "What's Love Got to Do with It?" CMBC aims to provide a place where one can experience the life-changing presence of God every weekend. Its vision is to see lives transformed to live and love like Jesus. It was on the coast of Caesarea-Philippi that Jesus asked the question, "Whom do men say that I am?" without missing a beat, the disciples quipped, "Some say you are Elijah....Moses.... Jeremiah... or one of the prophets. Sadly, all those persons were indeed dead! Jesus must have been both divinely and carnally insulted by their answers because they all referred to dead people. Jesus is God of the living! This is a manuscript about a living and active preacher. Some day in the distant future Epps will be with us no more, his heavenly rewards await him. But while he is alive, it is incumbent upon those of you who know him intimately or remotely, to acknowledge the tremendous giftedness that has become his portion, par excellence. With limitless love and endless generosity he has been the servant leader. Like a football coach, Epps has allowed God to use him to preach to a people that "the best defense is a good offense." CMBC and its ministries are on the offense against the battalions of Satan in the Metropolitan Dallas area, and beyond. Your responsibility is not to stay on the sidelines and cheer Epps on, but to join him in this wholistic crusade to transform both individual lives and communities, with LOVE! Come, Let me bless you! Part 2 is the "History of the Black Church in America."
