Download or read book The Devil s Playbook written by Lauren Etter and published by Crown. This book was released on 2021-05-25 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Juul’s rise and fall teaches us something about greed, capitalism, policy failure and a particular cycle in American business that seems destined to repeat itself. . . . Deeply reported and illuminating.”—The New York Times Book Review (Editors’ Choice) Big Tobacco meets Silicon Valley in this gripping exposé of what happened when two of the most notorious industries collided—and the vaping epidemic was born. “The best business book I’ve read since Bad Blood.”—Jonathan Eig, bestselling author of Ali: A Life Howard Willard lusted after Juul. As the CEO of the parent company of tobacco giant Philip Morris, he believed the e-cigarette had all the addictive upside of the original without the same apparent health risks and bad press. Meanwhile, Adam Bowen and James Monsees began working on a device meant to destroy Big Tobacco but ended up baking the cigarette industry’s DNA into their invention. Juul’s e-cigarette was so effective that it put the company on a collision course with Philip Morris, sparking one of the most explosive public health crises in recent memory. Award–winning journalist Lauren Etter tells a riveting story of greed and deception in one of the biggest botched deals in business history. Willard was desperate to acquire Juul, even as his team sounded alarms about the startup’s reliance on underage customers. Ultimately, Juul’s executives negotiated a deal that let them pocket the lion’s share of Philip Morris’s $12.8 billion investment while government regulators and furious parents mounted a campaign to hold the company’s feet to the fire. The Devil’s Playbook is the inside story of how Juul’s embodiment of Silicon Valley’s “move fast and break things” ethos wrought havoc on American health, how a beleaguered tobacco company was seduced by the promise of a new generation of addicted customers, and how Juul’s founders, board members, and employees walked away with a windfall.

Book excerpt: DIY 101 Yummy Organic e-Juice Recipes 101 Delicious e Liquid, e Juice & Vape Juice Recipes You Can Make Today Lately, my new found obsession is everything Organic, especially vaping organic e-juice. I am an avid vaper and have been vaping, selling, importing, retailing, wholesaling e- cigarettes for last six years now. But this is not about my success or failure in business; it is about vaping the yummy e-liquids. Let me ask, have you tried any organic e-juice yet? Well if you haven't, you are missing out and I think you owe it to yourself to at least make a few flavors yourself and try it. You may ask why I should make my own when I can just order from an online retailer right? In case you haven't noticed, the prices of e-liquids have doubled in last two years, especially if you are buying the USA made organic e-juice. Last time I bought a 30ml bottle of an organic e-juice I paid $27.50 plus shipping!! I have been making my own e-juice for four years now, and I suggest you try making a batch too. Trust me it can be an awesome and fun experience to be able to create something you can call your own brand. But more importantly, the cost savings can be reason enough that you would want to start making your own. Just to give you an example, to make a 30ml bottle of any flavor of organic e-juice at home can cost you around $3-$5 depending on what flavoring you use. Now to buy same the quality and quantity e-juice from any reputable online or local retailers can cost you $20-$28. The difference is $23! When you vape a store bought liquid, do you ever say, "I wish they added one more drop of menthol or little more coffee flavor to this juice"? Well when you make your own, you don't have to wish that anymore, just add more or be more creative and mix a few recipes together and come up with a unique one that has your signature on it. If you end up making a few great recipes, you can even start your own brand and try to market them as premium organic e-juice, online and have a business that you never thought you would have. The possibilities are endless! Preparing your perfect eJ uice recipe and getting all the ingredients in the right quantity is quite a bit of work. Experimenting with making your own e-Juice can thus, result in a tenuous experiment that drains your energy in the end and leaves you shoving it aside, only to find yourself saving and spending money on pre-made e-liquids that you are bound to buy. But wait, things don't have to be that bad, and you don't have to exhaust yourself trying to perfect your eJuice recipes. I have gone through the trouble for you because I was keen to learn and perfect my art of eJuices for myself and my friends, and I'm ready to share it here with you! What does this book include? Download or read book Electronic Cigarettes My Research Findings and Switch written by Shane H. Alexander and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a detailed manual of the e-cigarette. But along with hard facts, personal experiences also provide the stimulus for this publishing effort. I have been puffing cigarettes as long as I can remember, and it was inevitable that I would not only contract a sinus, but also go through a throat surgery. Undergoing the medical procedure, I was strictly warned not to smoke for a week. Since I had no other choice, I figured out that after 29 long years, the time had come for me to say goodbye to smoking. And then I saw an ad for e-cigarettes on the internet. The particular one I saw was an ego tank type, and at that time I was simply confused as to what it really was. But somehow I managed to order it along with 18 mg strength nicotine, and I received it the next day. I took the first puff and had an epiphany! The product was clean and had a superb taste. I was getting my dose of nicotine without taking in the bad stuff like tar and other carcinogens. The best part is that I could smoke at home, and anywhere else for that matter. And so I have been using e-cigarettes ever since. All the material in this book comes from my personal experience. In this 2nd Edition I updated the book and the information as this is an ever changing industry and new e cigarette devices are coming out every so often. "If I could, I would've left this e-book a 10-stars rating for offering the most complete and informative account on the best electronic cigarette kits available on the market today. "This guide enlightened me and provided me a whole lot of knowledge that personally helped me pick the right e-Cig kit and liquid for me. Now, that is stellar! Thanks, Shane! :)" Lynzki

Download or read book Public Health Consequences of E Cigarettes written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2018-05-18 with total page 775 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Millions of Americans use e-cigarettes. Despite their popularity, little is known about their health effects. Some suggest that e-cigarettes likely confer lower risk compared to combustible tobacco cigarettes, because they do not expose users to toxicants produced through combustion. Proponents of e-cigarette use also tout the potential benefits of e-cigarettes as devices that could help combustible tobacco cigarette smokers to quit and thereby reduce tobacco-related health risks. Others are concerned about the exposure to potentially toxic substances contained in e-cigarette emissions, especially in individuals who have never used tobacco products such as youth and young adults. Given their relatively recent introduction, there has been little time for a scientific body of evidence to develop on the health effects of e-cigarettes. Public Health Consequences of E-Cigarettes reviews and critically assesses the state of the emerging evidence about e-cigarettes and health. This report makes recommendations for the improvement of this research and highlights gaps that are a priority for future research.

Download or read book Dissecting Antismokers Brains written by Michael J. McFadden and published by None Yet. This book was released on 2004-05 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The true horror of 1984 is not what was done to Winston Smith. The true horror was that the vast majority of the populace was happy, content, and believed that what their government was doing was right." That quote introduces what Britain's Numberwatch has called, "the most astonishing political saga since the rise of Adolph Hitler." Dissecting Antismokers' Brains examines the psychology and motivations that drive antismoking advocates while also analyzing their general abuse of language and science. The combination offers readers a solid foundation for understanding modern efforts to ban, tax, and harass smokers into nonexistence. Published in 2004, Brains remains ahead of its time with a startling freshness in its ideas and theories. The propaganda methods exposed here in their early development have grown and are being used even more intensively in the ads, press releases, and guidebooks of antismoking advocacy groups today. The modern stonewalling techniques examined in the author's follow-up volume, TobakkoNacht - The Antismoking Endgame are shown in their birthing forms in his early communications with advocates and the callous abuse of our love for children continues to be exploited as ads show evil wisps of smoke seeking out open windows to attack babies in their nurseries. McFadden's warnings of future campaigns to deny jobs and medical care to smokers, to extend smoking bans to apartments and outdoor spaces, and to apply similar conditioning/nudging techniques to the control of alcohol and fast foods have proven far too true. For those seeking an in-depth but comfortably readable examination of the foundations of the antismoking movement, this book is essential. Its focus on the combination of psychology, propaganda analysis, and the misuse of science makes it a solid volume for college courses in the areas of social change, scientific ethics, political manipulation, and the use and limits of governmental control over citizen behavior. At the same time, its meticulous deconstruction of the basic scientific and statistical arguments fueling government-imposed smoking bans makes it accessible to anyone who's ever wondered how smoking has moved to being regularly presented as both an antisocial and even "immoral" character trait. Dissecting Antismokers' Brains remains an indispensable volume for anyone disturbed by, wishing to understand, or wanting to fight the growth of governmental control over personal life choices and behaviors.
