This book was released on 2017-06-06 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1891, this volume contains a treatise by Joseph. A. Seiss on "The Epistle of Paul The Apostle to the Hebrews," one of the books of the New Testament. It is generally attributed to Paul the Apostle, and scholars of Greek consider its writing to be more polished and eloquent than any other book of the New Testament. This volume will appeal to those with an interest in Christian Scripture, and it would make for a fantastic addition to allied collections. Joseph Augustus Seiss (March 18, 1823 - June 20, 1904) was an American theologian and Lutheran minister most famous for his contributions to pyramidology and dispensationalism. His best-known work is "The Great Pyramid of Egypt, Miracle in Stone: Secrets and Advanced Knowledge" (1877), considered a primary text of pyramidology. Other notable works by this author include: "The Last Times and the Great Consummation" (1856), "The Children of Silence; Or, The Story of the Deaf" (1887), and "The Letter of Jesus" (1888). Many vintage books such as this are becoming increasingly scarce and expensive. We are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition complete with the original text and artwork.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lectures: Introductory to the Study of the Epistles of Paul the Apostle The twelve lectures which make up the volume before the reader were delivered in London within the month of May, 1868. As presenting a sketch of the epistles of the great apostle of the Gentiles, the subject is one of the nearest interest to us of the uncircumcision who believe. But it is also definite enough to need no prefatory words, further than to say that, though I have sought diligently to correct the faults made in extemporaneous discourse, or the flaws of such as took them down in short-hand, I cannot but deeply feel how far short the result is from presenting an adequate summary of the wonderful compositions to which the lectures refer. But I reckon on, as I pray for, the grace of the Lord to bless even this resume, to such as read His word along with it, to the help of their souls. This book was released on 2017-12-15 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lectures on the Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Romans, Vol. 1 IT is possible to conceive the face of our world over spread with a thick and midnight darkness, and without so much as a particle of light to alleviate it, from any one quarter of the firmament around us. In this case, it were of no avail to the people who live in it, that all of them were in possession of sound and perfect eyes. The organ of sight may be entire, and yet nothing be seen from the total absence of external light among the objects on every side of us. Or in other words, to bring about the perception of that which is without, it is not enough that we have the power of vision among men; but, in addition to this, there must be a visibility in the trees, and the houses, and the mountains, and the living creatures, which are now in the ordinary discernment of men. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lectures: Doctrinal and Practical on the Epistle of the Apostle Paul to the Romans The following Lectures are the result of a close and constant study of the epistle, during many years, and have been composed, not for any particular con gregation, but for the general use of the Christian public. The author is fully conscious, that, divest ing himself Of all manner of prepossession and undue bias, he has endeavoured to ascertain, and to give, the true meaning Of the apostle, by the most careful, persevering, and candid, critical examination of his words, in the language, m which he wrote. He has, of course, attentively and diligently perused the most approved critics, commentators, and other writers, on the epistle; and, while he has seen the clearest and most convincing reasons for deviating from the opinions Of some authors Of name and weight, he has the satisfaction to think, that, on all essential points, he agrees with the most learned, able, and candid, writers on the epistle, ancient and modern, that the Christian Church has produced. He has the' testimony of his heart, that his motive, in composing and publishing the Lectures, is, the. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The author is silent as to his own name he begins with no greeting; he sends no special messages or salutations to individuals. His aim is to furnish an elaborate argument in favour of one definite thesis and he describes what he has written as a word of exhortation (xiii. This book was released on 2016-08-26 with total page 446 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Lectures on the Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Romans, Vol. 4 Theology has its steeps and its altitudes - pin nacles far out of sight, or shooting upwardly to heaven till lost in the cloudy envelopment which surrounds them. Yet this does not hinder that there should be a most distinct and discernible path which winds around its basement, and by which the lowliest of Zion's travellers may find an ascending way, that at length when the toils of his pilgrimage are ended, will land him in a place of purest transparency, where he shall know even as he is known. There are some whose vision can carry them more aloft among the heights of ardu ous speculation. Yet let none be discouraged for there is a way of duty that may be practised and of doctrine that may be understood which is accessible to all - a way the entrance upon which requires but the union of a desirous heart with a doing hand - a union this that is often realized by the veriest babe in intellect; who, wholly unable though he be to scan the awful mysteries of a pre destinating God, yet can lift the prayer both of affection and confidence, while looking to Him in the more legible as well as more lovely aspect of a God that waiteth to be gracious. Book excerpt: Excerpt from An Exposition of the Epistle of the Apostle Paul to the Hebrews, Vol. 1 The observation, though commonplace, is true and important, that principles, in themselves not only innocent but laudable, may, from their being excessive in degree or ill-timed in their display, be, to a great extent, mischievous in their consequences. Excess of patriotism, not unfrequently, has not merely brought destruction on the patriot's head, but plunged his country into deeper calamities than those from which he was attempting to save it and some of the bloodiest persecutions of the Christian Church have originated in a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
