This book was released on 2021-11-01 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book will deal with arguments that analyze the Vatican policies of Francis, during the first seven years of his pontificate, in relation to some of the most urgent questions concerning humanity: migrants and refugees, the economy, and ecology. The logical choice of the time period for this work is given by Jorge Bergoglio's ascent to the "chair of St. Peter" until the end of 2019. That is why there is an interrelationship between history and the present, since it is written—in part—as his apostolic journeys, interventions, diplomatic actions, and discourses are carried out. To this is added an important quantity of writings of his authorship, as well as of some of his predecessors, in order to frame the question in a historically correct way and to understand his approach to issues of politics and international diplomacy, given his investiture as a religious and—at the same time—political leader

Download or read book Shona Women in Zimbabwe A Purchased People written by John Chitakure and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-09-29 with total page 165 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The position and treatment of women in every religion, culture, and society have been subjects of concern for a long time. In every society, women fight for their emancipation from exploitive and oppressive patriarchal structures. The most contentious issues include domestic violence, gender discrimination and inequality in the areas of employment, leadership, and marriage. Domestic violence tops the list and is the worst enemy of any progressive and democratic society. It dehumanizes, disfigures, and demeans its victims and survivors. Shona Women in Zimbabwe--a Purchased People explores the causes of domestic violence--the cultural practice of bridewealth, in particular--and assesses the extent to which it contributes to the proliferation of domestic violence among the Shona people of Zimbabwe. It then explores the Christian traditions, particularly, the Roman Catholic Church, in search of resources that can be used to emancipate Shona women from patriarchal subjugation. Finally, the book offers a pastoral response that is informed by the experiences of the Shona women, their cultural resources, and the Roman Catholic religious tradition.
Download or read book The Faiths of Others written by Thomas Albert Howard and published by Yale University Press. This book was released on 2021-05-25 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first intellectual history of interreligious dialogue, a relatively new and significant dimension of human religiosity In recent decades, organizations committed to interreligious or interfaith dialogue have proliferated, both in the Western and non-Western worlds. Why? How so? And what exactly is interreligious dialogue? These are the touchstone questions of this book, the first major history of interreligious dialogue in the modern age. Thomas Albert Howard narrates and analyzes several key turning points in the history of interfaith dialogue before examining, in the conclusion, the contemporary landscape. While many have theorized about and practiced interreligious dialogue, few have attended carefully to its past, connecting its emergence and spread with broader developments in modern history. Interreligious dialogue—grasped in light of careful, critical attention to its past—holds promise for helping people of diverse faith backgrounds to foster cooperation and knowledge of one another while contributing insight into contemporary, global religious pluralism.

Book excerpt: This is a glorious volume from Joseph Ratzinger,(now Pope Benedict XVI), who pays tribute to his predecessor, mentor and close friend, Pope John Paul II. As Cardinal Ratzinger he was the closest Vatican prelate to John Paul II, working together with him for almost 25 years in the Vatican. When John Paul died, the world saw Cardinal Ratzinger speak so beautifully and eloquently at the pope's funeral, then at the Mass preceeding the Papal Conclave. Soon afterwards, the College of Cardinals quickly elected Ratzinger as John Paul's successor. This book unites these two great spiritual leaders in one powerful, deeply moving volume, complete with over 100 pages of truly inspiring, unique photos by Vatican photographer Giancarlo Giuliani (many never before published) of many striking and poignant moments of the pontificate of John Paul II as he traveled around the world. Ratzinger shares his many personal experiences and insights about this pontificate that changed the world. Illustrated.

Download or read book The Legacy of Robert Mugabe and the Zimbabwe African National Union Patriotic Front A One Party State facilitating Dictatorship and Disregard for Human Rights written by Dr. Mark O'Doherty and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2017-02-05 with total page 146 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Even to this day, humanity has not advanced beyond petty and primitive national conflicts; succumbing to despotic leaders who use xenophobia, nationalism, propaganda and power politics to manipulate and indoctrinate the people of their respective countries. This not only applies to countries such as Russia and Iran; but also to the UK, EU and US - who deprive honest and decent folks of basic necessities, such as a Basic Income Guarantee (BIG), if they do not fall in line with the economic and political establishment. However, my dear friends at MI6, the GRU and SVR are certainly right about one thing: That the war between Russia and Ukraine must end - to stop further loss of innocent life, and restore the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in the International Community. The 2022 Russian invasion, has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths on both sides and caused Europe's largest refugee crisis since World War II. Russia's invasion of Ukraine has forced 7.9 million Ukrainians to flee the country, and internally displaced another 5.9 million, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution condemning the invasion and demanding a full withdrawal of Russian forces. Pope Francis has also denounced the "wake of death and destruction" caused by Russia's nearly-year-long offensive in Ukraine, describing the war as "a crime against God and humanity". He said attacks on civilian infrastructure were causing deaths "not only from gunfire and acts of violence but also from hunger and freezing cold." "Every act of war directed to the indiscriminate destruction of whole cities or vast areas with their inhabitants is a crime against God and humanity which merits firm and unequivocal condemnation." Furthermore, the International Criminal Court has opened an investigation into crimes against humanity in Ukraine. So we expect our colleagues in the Government of Russia to make Peace with Ukraine - and uphold the Legacy of Peace by Mikhail Gorbachev and Boris Yeltsin - by working together with the Ukrainian government, to restore Human Rights and International Law in the International Community. We encourage all Russian troops to come back home to their loved ones in Russia - so that Peace can be manifested, and we can all live happy and fulfilling lives: ) Love and Light / God Bless Acting president of Russia and the US, Mark O'Doherty / BTB-Global Peacebuilding
