Book Literary Translation Reception and Transfer

Download or read book Literary Translation Reception and Transfer written by Norbert Bachleitner and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-09-21 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The three concepts mentioned in the title of this volume imply the contact between two or more literary phenomena; they are based on similarities that are related to a form of ‘travelling’ and imitation or adaptation of entire texts, genres, forms or contents. Transfer comprises all sorts of ‘travelling’, with translation as a major instrument of transferring literature across linguistic and cultural barriers. Transfer aims at the process of communication, starting with the source product and its cultural context and then highlighting the mediation by certain agents and institutions to end up with inclusion in the target culture. Reception lays its focus on the receiving culture, especially on critcism, reading, and interpretation. Translation, therefore, forms a major factor in reception with the general aim of reception studies being to reveal the wide spectrum of interpretations each text offers. Moreover, translations are the prime instrument in the distribution of literature across linguistic and cultural borders; thus, they pave the way for gaining prestige in the world of literature. The thirty-eight papers included in this volume and dedicated to research in this area were previously read at the ICLA conference 2016 in Vienna. They are ample proof that the field remains at the center of interest in Comparative Literature.

Book Croatia Past Present and Future Perspectives

Download or read book Croatia Past Present and Future Perspectives written by Matko Marusić and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2020-09-24 with total page 453 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Croatia is today popularly known as a beautiful country, with an excellent soccer team, but the rest of its long history is still not well known outside scholarly circles. It is less known for example that Croatia started as an ancient kingdom established in the 7th century. It lost its independence in the 11th century and had a troubled history until the first democratic elections in 1990 and independence in 1991. Since the Great Schism in the 11th century, Croatia has been the easternmost country of the Catholic West facing the Orthodox East. Attacked by the Ottoman Turks in the 15th century, it has been called ever since Antemurale Christianitatis (The Bulwark of Christianity). Croatia went through difficult times during the two World Wars and in the inter-war and the post-war periods until it won its independence and later gained membership to the European Union in 2013. This book reveals important information about its history, the struggles it endured to gain independence, the key problems of post-communist social and economic transition, and prospects for the future, summarized at the end as an analysis of its strengths and weaknesses, as well as its external threats and opportunities. The book is divided into two parts, "Croatian History Timeline" and "Past in Present and Future", because the Croatian past informs its present and future in a profound way. There are few sources in English that present so many until-now unknown aspects of this European country as does this book. It may be said that it is the first reliable and objective guide to give essential understanding of the Republic of Croatia published so far in the English language"--

Download or read book The Inner Cause written by Martin Brofman and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2018-05-08 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Explores the body as a map of consciousness, where physical symptoms reflect stresses on our minds, emotions, and Higher Self • Offers a comprehensive guide to 800 physical symptoms with the description of their inner cause and the message they are sending to our consciousness • Explains how learning a symptom’s message empowers the individual affected to take charge and effect change on the inner level • Addresses the individual as well as the helping professions, healers and therapists, to help them understand more fully the dynamics of the body-mind interface The body is intimately connected to the mind and the Spirit. Each physical symptom reflects a deeper part of our Spirit and consciousness, the part the Western traditions know as the “unconscious” or “subconscious.” When we make a decision that leaves us with stress, it affects our consciousness, and therefore our energy field or aura. When the tension increases in intensity, it reaches the physical level where it creates a symptom. This means that if we make a different decision, or change our mind about something, we can let go of this stress, and the symptom. The symptom itself is not the problem, just a message that, once understood, has fulfilled its purpose and can be released. Integrating Martin Brofman’s more than 30 years of research and healing practice, The Inner Cause comprises an A to Z compendium of 800 symptoms and a psychology of their inner causes, the messages they are trying to send to our consciousness. Woven into the descriptions of symptoms, the author also discusses personality profiles associated with certain symptoms, derived from his understanding of the chakras, the body-mind interface, and the connections he discovered when developing his Body Mirror System of Healing. He explains that when you explore the inner cause to a symptom, you recognize that you have created this symptom through the stressed way you chose to respond to the conditions in your life. By learning a symptom’s message, you become empowered to take charge and effect change on the inner level. For each symptom discussed, the author explores the message of the symptom, which chakras are involved, how you may be affected, and which issues you might need to look at to resolve the tension or stress--although a specific solution will always depend on the individual’s personal situation. With its correlation of symptoms and psychological states of being, The Inner Cause provides invaluable insight into how we can effectively support our own healing process physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A rollicking, thought-provoking dictionary for the modern age, featuring definitions for those things we don't have words for, from the New York Times bestselling author behind The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Douglas Adams, and TV producer John Lloyd. Does the sensation of Tingrith(1) make you yelp? Do you bend sympathetically when you see someone Ahenny(2)? Can you deal with a Naugatuck(3) without causing a Toronto(4)? Will you suffer from Kettering(5) this summer? Probably. You are almost certainly familiar with all these experiences but just didn’t know that there are words for them. Well, in fact, there aren’t—or rather there weren’t, until Douglas Adams and John Lloyd decided to plug these egregious linguistic lacunae(6). They quickly realized that just as there are an awful lot of experiences that no one has a name for, so there are an awful lot of names for places you will never need to go to. What a waste. As responsible citizens of a small and crowded world, we must all learn the virtues of recycling(7) and put old, worn-out but still serviceable names to exciting, vibrant, new uses. This is the book that does that for you: The Deeper Meaning of Liff—a whole new solution to the problem of Great Wakering(8) 1—The feeling of aluminum foil against your fillings. 2—The way people stand when examining other people’s bookshelves. 3—A plastic packet containing shampoo, mustard, etc., which is impossible to open except by biting off the corners. 4—Generic term for anything that comes out in a gush, despite all your efforts to let it out carefully, e.g., flour into a white sauce, ketchup onto fish, a dog into the yard, and another naughty meaning that we can’t put on the cover. 5—The marks left on your bottom and thighs after you’ve been sitting sunbathing in a wicker chair. 6—God knows what this means 7—For instance, some of this book was first published in Britain twenty-six years ago. 8—Look it up yourself.

Book Fragile Sense of Hope

Download or read book Fragile Sense of Hope written by and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fragile Sense of Hope conveys the aesthetic and intellectual journey of building a young collection with a focus on contemporary art from Eastern and Southeastern Europe. With insights into the narrative power of this largely unknown art scene, the exhibit offers the unexpected discovery of a high artistic standard that is often defined by other art historical developments in Eastern Europe. The exhibit broadens horizons and invites visitors to contemplate the fragility of Europe's many private and public hopes. The Art Collection Telekom would like to document and shape Eastern Europe's exciting artistic developments, while responding to the societal and political impact of the fall of the Iron Curtain. By supporting the visual arts, the collection aims to contribute to the appreciation of Europe's cultural diversity. The Art Collection Telekom was initiated in 2010. The main focus lays on contemporary art from Eastern and South-Eastern Europe. Art Collection Telekom sees this as a response to the social and political changes after the fall of the Iron Curtain and calls for a greater understanding of the broad cultural diversity in Europe through the visual arts. The aim is to map out a concentrated art historical spectrum of contemporary art in this cultural area. The full media bandwidth of contemporary art, from drawing to digital installations, is to be introduced.
