You mull over its insights, consider its lessons, and you may even say to yourself, I never thought of it that way before. Ponderings of a Pedaling Pastor is a collection of true stories and short reflections that will inspire you to reconsider many things you may not have thought to think about. Dennis Whitmore is the senior pastor of Hilltop Christian Fellowship in Clear Spring, Maryland. Born and raised in Baltimore, he graduated with a BS in business administration from Towson University. From health club trainer and manager to ordained ministry in 1995, Dennis has journaled and logged a collection of insights on life called Points to Ponder. At first they were among a series of ninety-second messages on a Christian radio station. Then the transcripts became a column in a local Hagerstown paper for fourteen years. Since 2008, they again are on the radio (WJEJ 1240 AM, Hagerstown, Maryland). They take five minutes to read but will keep you thinkingponderingall day. On my bike, in my devotion time, I long to know God. And in my searching He taught me to better understand me. Pastor Dennis P.D. Whitmore

Book Rusch to Glory

Download or read book Rusch to Glory written by Rebecca Rusch and published by VeloPress. This book was released on 2014-10-01 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Rebecca Rusch is one of the great endurance athletes of our time. Known today as the Queen of Pain for her perseverance as a relentlessly fast runner, paddler, and mountain bike racer, Rusch was a normal kid from Chicago who abandoned a predictable life for one of adventure. In her new book Rusch to Glory: Adventure, Risk & Triumph on the Path Less Traveled, Rusch weaves her fascinating life's story among the exotic locales and extreme conditions that forged an extraordinary athlete from ordinary roots. Rusch has run the gauntlet of endurance sports over her career as a professional athlete-- climbing, adventure racing, whitewater rafting, cross-country skiing, and mountain biking--racking up world championships along the way. But while she might seem like just another superhuman playing out a fistful of aces, her empowering story proves that anyone can rise above self-doubt and find their true potential. First turning heads with her rock climbing and paddling skills, Rusch soon found herself spearheading adventure racing teams like Mark Burnett's Eco-Challenge series. As she fought her way through the jungles of Borneo, raced camels across Morocco, threaded the rugged Tian Shan mountains, and river-boarded the Grand Canyon in the dead of winter, she was forced to stare down her own demons. Through it all, Rusch continually redefined her limits, pushing deep into the pain cave and emerging ready for the next great challenge. At age 38, Rusch faced a tough decision: retire or reinvent herself yet again. Determined to go for broke, she shifted her focus to endurance mountain bike racing and rode straight into the record books at a moment when most athletes walk away. Rusch to Glory is more than an epic story of adventure; it is a testament to the rewards of hard work, determination, and resilience on the long road to personal and professional triumph.

Book Evangelism in a Skeptical World

Download or read book Evangelism in a Skeptical World written by Sam Chan and published by Zondervan Academic. This book was released on 2018-03-13 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most Christians already know that they should be telling their friends about Jesus. But they have been poorly equipped with methods that are no longer effective in today's post-Christian world. As a result, many people become frustrated, blame themselves, and simply give up. Evangelism in a Skeptical World is a textbook on evangelism that is ideal for the church or the classroom to equip Christians with the principles and skills they need to tell the unbelievable news about Jesus to friends in a skeptical world. Many of the older principles and methods of evangelism in the twentieth century no longer work effectively today. In a post-Christian, post-churched, post-reached world we need new methods to communicate the timeless message of the gospel in culturally relevant ways. Dr. Chan combines the theological and biblical insights of classic evangelistic training with the latest insights from missiology on contextualization, cultural hermeneutics, and storytelling. Every chapter is illustrated with real-world examples drawn from over fifteen years of evangelistic ministry. These are methods that really work - with university students, urban workers, and high school students - getting past the defensive posture that people have toward Christianity so they can seriously consider the claims of Jesus Christ. Field-tested and filled with unique, fresh, and creative insights, this book will equip you to share the gospel in today's world and help as many people as possible hear the good news about Jesus.

Book excerpt: Michael Nnaji is young, affable and extremely brilliant, but still struggling. He dedicates the entirety of his life to ecclesiastical service, and the anointing upon his life is a major source of blessing to many that come across to him. However, anointing without money is an annoyance, so his superior in the church, Pastor Kunle Martins orchestrates a multi-million dollar deal that requires his information and communication technology expertise, which will certainly, make him rich stupendously. He rejects the juicy offer bluntly, and upholds the tenet of his faith while Pastor Martins goes raving mad at him, and presents him with a choice: either to accept the crooked, rich proposition or spend his whole life, languishing in gaol. Michael prays ardently for divine intervention to be let off the hook but quite unfortunate, the charge against him is very grievous, and he needs a rapid and effective legal service which he cant really afford to be freed from a damnable incarceration. The young pastor hopes for a miracle to get that, and one just wonders the possibility of it. An absolute expose` of the ills venerated personalities perpetrate in the contemporary African society.
