Book Chinese Propaganda Posters From Revolution to Modernization

Download or read book Chinese Propaganda Posters From Revolution to Modernization written by Stefan Landsberger and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 468 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brightly coloured prints, portraying model behaviour or a better future, have been a ubiquitous element of Chinese political culture from Imperial times until present. As economic reform swept the People's Republic in the 1980s, visual propaganda ceased to depict the tanned and muscular labourers in a proletarian utopia, so typical of preceding decades. Instead, Western icons of progress and development were employed: high-speed bullet trains, spacecraft, high-rise buildings, gridlocked free-ways and projections of general affluence. Socialist Realism was phased out by design and mixed- media techniques that were influenced by Western advertising. This lavishly illustrated study traces the development of the style and content of the Chinese propaganda poster in the decade of reform, from its traditional origins to its use as a tool for political and economic purposes.

Book The Globalization of Chinese Propaganda

Download or read book The Globalization of Chinese Propaganda written by Kingsley Edney and published by Palgrave Macmillan. This book was released on 2014-05-21 with total page 280 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As China becomes more deeply engaged with the outside world its propaganda authorities confront a dilemma: how can they maintain domestic ideological cohesion in the face of an influx of foreign information and ideas while also convincing skeptical international audiences that China's rise is a good news story? This book examines the Chinese propaganda system in the era of globalization, exploring connections between the Chinese Communist Party's desire for domestic political control and its vision for the development of China's international power. Investigating areas such as Chinese attitudes to soft power, the recent international expansion of the Chinese media, and the authorities' reaction to public opinion crises at home and abroad, Edney shows that in order to understand Chinese attempts to influence international views it is necessary to examine the power of propaganda in China's domestic political system.

Download or read book Carry on the Revolution to the End written by Shaomin Li and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-01-03 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book reviews the way in which art, in the form of posters, was used by Mao Zedong and the Chinese Communist Party to serve their revolution. It centers on the era of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution (1966-1976) and discusses the way in which the revolutionary theory of art was formed and mobilized people to use posters to "carry on the revolution to the end," as Mao called them to do. From the propaganda posters used during the Cultural Revolution, the author identifies the features of persuasion and distortion that are most common in these posters: they persuade people to do what they do not want to do, and they distort reality by showing the opposite. Based on his experience as an propaganda artist in Mao's era, the author reviews the evolution of propaganda posters in China from the revolutionary era to today, and discusses what is at the "end" of Mao's revolution - in today's China.

Book The Spirit of Chinese Politics

Download or read book The Spirit of Chinese Politics written by Lucian W. Pye and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 1992 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lucian Pye, one of the most knowledgeable observers of China, unfolds in this book a deep psychological analysis of Chinese political culture. The dynamics of the Cultural Revolution, the behavior of the Red Guards, and the compulsions of Mao Tse-tung are among the important symptoms examined. But Pye goes behind large events, exploring the more enduring aspects of Chinese culture and the stable elements of the national psychology as they have been manifested in traditional, Republican, and Communist periods. He also scans several possible paths of future development. The emphasis is on the roles long played by authority, order, hierarchy, and emotional quietism in Chinese political culture as shaped by the Confucian tradition and the institution of filial piety, and the resulting confusions brought about by the displacements of these traditions in the face of political change and modernization. In this new edition Pye adds a chapter on the basic tension between consensus and conflict in the operation of Chinese politics, illustrating the "spirit" in action, and another discussing the great gap that persists between the worlds of the political leadership and of society at large in post-Tiananmen China.
