Download or read book Dayside and Polar Cap Aurora written by Per Even Sandholt and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-05-02 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The auroral emissions in the upper atmosphere of the polar regions of the Earth are evidence of the capture of energetic particles from the Sun, streaming by the Earth as the solar wind. These auroral emissions, then, are a window to outer space, and can provide us with valuable information about electrodynamic coupling processes between the solar wind and the Earth's ionosphere and upper atmosphere. Studying the physics of these phenomena extends our understanding of our plasma universe. Ground-based remote-sensing techniques, able to monitor continuously the variations in the signatures of aurorae, in combination with in-situ satellite and rocket measurements, promise to advance dramatically our understanding of the physical processes taking place at the interface of the atmospheres of the Earth and the Sun. Decoding their complexity brings us closer to reliable prediction of communication environments, especially at high latitudes. This understanding, in turn, will help us resolve problems of communication and navigation across polar regions.

Book Solving the Climate Puzzle

    Book Details:
  • Author : Javier Vinós
  • Publisher : Critical Science Press
  • Release : 2023-11-01
  • ISBN : 841258676X
  • Pages : 413 pages

Download or read book Solving the Climate Puzzle written by Javier Vinós and published by Critical Science Press. This book was released on 2023-11-01 with total page 413 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Climate change is the most important scientific issue of our time, catalyzing a profound societal shift based on our perceived understanding of it. While many books explain what we already know about climate change, this book explores what we admit we do not understand about it. In doing so, it reveals a previously overlooked mechanism of climate change, one that operates in the background and eludes the scrutiny of prevailing climate theories and models. Astonishingly, this phenomenon is clearly evident in numerous climate studies, casting a new light on climate change that warrants a critical reevaluation of many of the conclusions presented in the IPCC Assessment Reports. Regardless of your position on climate change or your familiarity with the underlying science, this book offers a wealth of knowledge and a profound shift in your understanding of the dynamics that govern climate variability. With 134 illustrations (black and white in the paperback edition), this book aims to make climate science accessible to a broad audience, and only you, the reader, can ultimately determine the extent to which it succeeds in this goal.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains the lectures presented at the Summer Advanced Study Institute, 'Physics and Chemistry of Atmospheres' which was held at the University of Liege, Belgium, during the period July 29-August 9, 1974. One-hundred nineteen persons from eleven different countries attended the Institute. The authors and publisher have made a special effort for rapid publication of an up to-date status of the physics and chemistry ofthe atmospheres of Earth and the plan ets, which is an ever-changing area. Special thanks are due to the lecturers for their diligent preparation and excellent presentations. The individual lectures and the published papers were deliberately limited; the authors' cooperation in conforming to these specifications is greatly appreciated. The contents of the book are organized by subject area rather than in the order in which papers were presented during the Institute. Many thanks are due to Drs Alv Egeland, Donald M. Hunten, Gunther Lange-Hesse, Marcel Nicolet, Harold I. Schiff, Lance Thomas, Alister Vallance Jones, Richard Wayne, and Gilbert Weill who served as session chairmen during the Institute and contributed greatly to its success by skillfully directing the discussion period in a stimulating manner after each lecture. Many persons contributed to the success of the Institute. Drs Alv Egeland, Donald M. Hunten, Gunther Lange-Hesse, Marcel Nicolet, Harold I. Schiff, Erwin R. Schmerling, Lance Thomas, Alister Vallance Jones, Richard Wayne, and Gilbert Weill were especially helpful in preparing the technical program.
