Book Poincare Einstein Holography for Forms via Conformal Geometry in the Bulk

Download or read book Poincare Einstein Holography for Forms via Conformal Geometry in the Bulk written by A. Rod Gover and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2015-04-09 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors study higher form Proca equations on Einstein manifolds with boundary data along conformal infinity. They solve these Laplace-type boundary problems formally, and to all orders, by constructing an operator which projects arbitrary forms to solutions. They also develop a product formula for solving these asymptotic problems in general. The central tools of their approach are (i) the conformal geometry of differential forms and the associated exterior tractor calculus, and (ii) a generalised notion of scale which encodes the connection between the underlying geometry and its boundary. The latter also controls the breaking of conformal invariance in a very strict way by coupling conformally invariant equations to the scale tractor associated with the generalised scale.

Download or read book C Projective Geometry written by David M Calderbank and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2021-02-10 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors develop in detail the theory of (almost) c-projective geometry, a natural analogue of projective differential geometry adapted to (almost) complex manifolds. The authors realise it as a type of parabolic geometry and describe the associated Cartan or tractor connection. A Kähler manifold gives rise to a c-projective structure and this is one of the primary motivations for its study. The existence of two or more Kähler metrics underlying a given c-projective structure has many ramifications, which the authors explore in depth. As a consequence of this analysis, they prove the Yano–Obata Conjecture for complete Kähler manifolds: if such a manifold admits a one parameter group of c-projective transformations that are not affine, then it is complex projective space, equipped with a multiple of the Fubini-Study metric.

Book CR Embedded Submanifolds of CR Manifolds

Download or read book CR Embedded Submanifolds of CR Manifolds written by Sean N. Curry and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-04-10 with total page 94 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors develop a complete local theory for CR embedded submanifolds of CR manifolds in a way which parallels the Ricci calculus for Riemannian submanifold theory. They define a normal tractor bundle in the ambient standard tractor bundle along the submanifold and show that the orthogonal complement of this bundle is not canonically isomorphic to the standard tractor bundle of the submanifold. By determining the subtle relationship between submanifold and ambient CR density bundles the authors are able to invariantly relate these two tractor bundles, and hence to invariantly relate the normal Cartan connections of the submanifold and ambient manifold by a tractor analogue of the Gauss formula. This also leads to CR analogues of the Gauss, Codazzi, and Ricci equations. The tractor Gauss formula includes two basic invariants of a CR embedding which, along with the submanifold and ambient curvatures, capture the jet data of the structure of a CR embedding. These objects therefore form the basic building blocks for the construction of local invariants of the embedding. From this basis the authors develop a broad calculus for the construction of the invariants and invariant differential operators of CR embedded submanifolds. The CR invariant tractor calculus of CR embeddings is developed concretely in terms of the Tanaka-Webster calculus of an arbitrary (suitably adapted) ambient contact form. This enables straightforward and explicit calculation of the pseudohermitian invariants of the embedding which are also CR invariant. These are extremely difficult to find and compute by more naïve methods. The authors conclude by establishing a CR analogue of the classical Bonnet theorem in Riemannian submanifold theory.

Book Natural Operations in Differential Geometry

Download or read book Natural Operations in Differential Geometry written by Ivan Kolar and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 440 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this work is threefold: First it should be a monographical work on natural bundles and natural op erators in differential geometry. This is a field which every differential geometer has met several times, but which is not treated in detail in one place. Let us explain a little, what we mean by naturality. Exterior derivative commutes with the pullback of differential forms. In the background of this statement are the following general concepts. The vector bundle A kT* M is in fact the value of a functor, which associates a bundle over M to each manifold M and a vector bundle homomorphism over f to each local diffeomorphism f between manifolds of the same dimension. This is a simple example of the concept of a natural bundle. The fact that exterior derivative d transforms sections of A kT* M into sections of A k+1T* M for every manifold M can be expressed by saying that d is an operator from A kT* M into A k+1T* M.

Download or read book The Ambient Metric written by Charles Fefferman and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2011-11-14 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops and applies a theory of the ambient metric in conformal geometry. This is a Lorentz metric in n+2 dimensions that encodes a conformal class of metrics in n dimensions. The ambient metric has an alternate incarnation as the Poincaré metric, a metric in n+1 dimensions having the conformal manifold as its conformal infinity. In this realization, the construction has played a central role in the AdS/CFT correspondence in physics. The existence and uniqueness of the ambient metric at the formal power series level is treated in detail. This includes the derivation of the ambient obstruction tensor and an explicit analysis of the special cases of conformally flat and conformally Einstein spaces. Poincaré metrics are introduced and shown to be equivalent to the ambient formulation. Self-dual Poincaré metrics in four dimensions are considered as a special case, leading to a formal power series proof of LeBrun's collar neighborhood theorem proved originally using twistor methods. Conformal curvature tensors are introduced and their fundamental properties are established. A jet isomorphism theorem is established for conformal geometry, resulting in a representation of the space of jets of conformal structures at a point in terms of conformal curvature tensors. The book concludes with a construction and characterization of scalar conformal invariants in terms of ambient curvature, applying results in parabolic invariant theory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Parabolic geometries encompass a very diverse class of geometric structures, including such important examples as conformal, projective, and almost quaternionic structures, hypersurface type CR-structures and various types of generic distributions. The characteristic feature of parabolic geometries is an equivalent description by a Cartan geometry modeled on a generalized flag manifold (the quotient of a semisimple Lie group by a parabolic subgroup). Background on differential geometry, with a view towards Cartan connections, and on semisimple Lie algebras and their representations, which play a crucial role in the theory, is collected in two introductory chapters. The main part discusses the equivalence between Cartan connections and underlying structures, including a complete proof of Kostant's version of the Bott–Borel–Weil theorem, which is used as an important tool. For many examples, the complete description of the geometry and its basic invariants is worked out in detail. The constructions of correspondence spaces and twistor spaces and analogs of the Fefferman construction are presented both in general and in several examples. The last chapter studies Weyl structures, which provide classes of distinguished connections as well as an equivalent description of the Cartan connection in terms of data associated to the underlying geometry. Several applications are discussed throughout the text.

Book excerpt: This book is an in-depth analysis of three of the most crucial years in twentieth-century Italian history, the years 1943-46. After more than two decades of a Fascist regime and a disastrous war experience during which Italy changed sides, these years saw the laying of the political and cultural foundations for what has since become known as Italy's First Republic. Drawing on texts from the literature, film, journalism, and political debate of the period, Antifascisms offers a thorough survey of the personalities and positions that informed the decisions taken in this crucial phase of modern Italian history.
