Book Ten Poems to Open Your Heart

Download or read book Ten Poems to Open Your Heart written by Roger Housden and published by Harmony. This book was released on 2007-12-18 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ten Poems to Open Your Heart is a book devoted to love: to the intimacy of personal love and lovemaking, to a loving compassion for others, and to the love that embraces both this world and the next. This new volume from Roger Housden features a few of the same poets as his extraordinarily moving Ten Poems to Change Your Life, such as Mary Oliver and Pablo Neruda, along with contributions from Sharon Olds, Wislawa Szymborska, Czeslaw Milosz, Denise Levertov, and others. Any one of the ten poems and, indeed, any one of Housden’s reflections on them, can open, gladden, or pierce your heart. Through the voices of these ten inspiring poets, and through illustrations from his own life, Housden expresses the tenderness, beauty, joys, and sorrows of love, the presence of which, more than anything else, gives human existence its meaning. As Housden says in his eloquent introduction, “Great poetry happens when the mind is looking the other way and words fall from the sky to shape a moment that would normally be untranslatable. . . . When the heart opens, we forget ourselves and the world pours in: this world, and also the invisible world of meaning that sustains everything that was and ever shall be.” From the Hardcover edition.

Book excerpt: I started writing poetry when I was seventeen years old; I found out that when you put your thoughts into words sometimes magic happens. I'm not talking about genies popping out of a bottle or anything like that, but in how I see things clearer and how beautiful this world truly is. I found out later in life how much easier it was to find a date in high school. I used to try and talk to girls and found out sometimes I'd get a little gun shy and pass up my chance. Then one day, I wrote a poem for this girl I had my eye on. I walked up to her and handed her the poem and then walked away. Later she approached me and we went out on a date. I found the magic potion to breaking the ice (so to speak) was a piece of paper and a writing pen. I learned how to put my thoughts down on a piece of paper, which later I put into a blank book that I would write my poems in. After I was told by at least fifty or so people that I should share these poems to others, I sat down and sorted out the poems I thought could touch your heart the best. I hope my poems are inspirational enough to help you create your own book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE LANGUAGE OF THE HEART: Love Poems and Passions The feeling of love respects no boundary of expression in a heart-to-heart intimacy between two souls. Love is love no matter how long or short its sojourn in the life of a person, no matter how deep or shallow its degree, or no matter how wide or narrow the space it occupies in one's heart. Truly, love is love no matter how it is expressed in different passions: sharing, caring, giving, receiving, laughing, hurting, leaving, pleading, crying, forgiving, or even losing and getting it back again and again. Love never changes its effects and color - the happiness and contentment in the heart and soul of its beholder. THE LANGUAGE OF THE HEART: Love Poems and Passions is a genuine expression of the feelings that have occurred or are presently occurring in the author's heart. Who can argue those feelings? Surely nobody can, except the creator himself of those beautiful and soul-guided verses which originated directly from the center of his heart. Many of the poems included in the book have been published in various magazines and school papers, as well as cited a number of times The Editor's Choice Award of the International Library of Poetry. The book exemplifies the unique and vicarious expression of the author's artistic interest and unique passion in poetic artistry. The poems are rich in interweaving figures of speech and in the use of descriptive words and phrases that turn abstract insights and emotions into concrete thoughts and feelings. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poems to Warm Your heart is an original collection of 42 poems written by Llewellyn D’Silva, a British Citizen who lives in Scotland. The author was born in Madras, India, and prides himself in his schooling. Llewelyn says that he was fortunate to have studied in two of the best Anglo-Indian schools which built in him a strong foundation for the English language and contributed to the secret of his success! He started his primary education at St. Aloysius High School and thereafter continued his studies at St. Mary’s High school under the able leadership of the highly intellectual Irish Principal; Rev. Fr. George Patrick Whyte, a strict disciplinarian. Llewellyn is still proud of the St. Marys Motto: ‘Viriliter Age – Act like a man.’ He concluded his studies with a Master’s degree from the University of Madras. His Catholic influence and upbringing is reflected in some of the quatrains of his poems. There is no doubt that the importance given to poetry in both the schools were certainly a big influence and also instrumental in his penchant for versification which led to writing 5 different genres of poetry. Sonnets, Free Verse Poems, Haiku tercets, a Ballad and an Elegy. Many of the poems were written over the past 25 years and finally put together at the behest of his beloved wife, Lorraine. The author migrated to the United Kingdom with his family in 2004 and lived in Swansea, South Wales. In 2021 he moved to Scotland to spend his retired life.

The expressions fashioned by a poet are stylish yet uniquely tasteful in pitch. The words of a poet are explicit and sometimes misconstrued. Book The Heart of American Poetry

Download or read book The Heart of American Poetry written by Edward Hirsch and published by Library of America. This book was released on 2022-04-19 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An acclaimed poet and our greatest champion for poetry offers an inspiring and insightful new reading of the American tradition We live in unsettled times. What is America and who are we as a people? How do we understand the dreams and betrayals that have shaped the American experience? For poet and critic Edward Hirsch, poetry opens up new ways of answering these questions, of reconnecting with one another and with what’s best in us. In this landmark new book from Library of America, Hirsch offers deeply personal readings of forty essential American poems we thought we knew—from Anne Bradstreet’s “The Author to Her Book” and Phillis Wheatley’s “To S.M. a Young African Painter, on seeing his Works” to Garrett Hongo’s “Ancestral Graves, Kahuku” and Joy Harjo’s “Rabbit Is Up to Tricks”—exploring how these poems have sustained his own life and how they might uplift our diverse but divided nation. “This is a personal book about American poetry,” writes Hirsch, “but I hope it is more than a personal selection. I have chosen forty poems from our extensive archive and songbook that have been meaningful to me, part of my affective life, my critical consideration, but I have also tried to be cognizant of the changing playbook in American poetry, which is not fixed but fluctuating, ever in flow, to pay attention to the wider consideration, the appreciable reach of our literature. This is a book of encounters and realizations.”
