Book I m Just No Good at Rhyming

Download or read book I m Just No Good at Rhyming written by Chris Harris and published by Little, Brown Books for Young Readers. This book was released on 2017-09-26 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The instant New York Times bestseller featured on NPR's Weekend Edition with Scott Simon! B. J. Novak (bestselling author of The Book With No Pictures) described this groundbreaking poetry collection as "Smart and sweet, wild and wicked, brilliantly funny--it's everything a book for kids should be." Lauded by critics as a worthy heir to such greats as Silverstein, Seuss, Nash and Lear, Harris's hilarious debut molds wit and wordplay, nonsense and oxymoron, and visual and verbal sleight-of-hand in masterful ways that make you look at the world in a whole new wonderfully upside-down way. With enthusiastic endorsements from bestselling luminaries such as Lemony Snicket, Judith Viorst, Andrea Beaty, and many others, this entirely unique collection offers a surprise around every corner. Adding to the fun: Lane Smith, bestselling creator of beloved hits like It's a Book and The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales, has spectacularly illustrated this extraordinary collection with nearly one hundred pieces of appropriately absurd art. It's a mischievous match made in heaven! "Ridiculous, nonsensical, peculiar, outrageous, possibly deranged--and utterly, totally, absolutely delicious. Read it! Immediately!" --Judith Viorst, bestselling author of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Book excerpt: Stunning collage art full of rich color, glorious details, and a sense of wonder—reminiscent of the work of Ezra Jack Keats—illustrate this delightful story celebrating the poetry found in the world around us. What is poetry? Is it glistening morning dew? Spider thinks so. Is it crisp leaves crunching? That’s what Squirrel says. Could it be a cool pond, sun-warmed sand, or moonlight on the grass? Maybe poetry is all of these things, as it is something special for everyone—you just have to take the time to really look and listen. The magical thing is that poetry is in everyone, and Daniel is on his way to discovering a poem of his own after spending time with his animal friends. What is poetry? If you look and listen, it’s all around you!

Book excerpt: There is so much power in the written word, but that power is often forgotten or overlooked by young people, so pressured by school, family, and the future. Rhyme and Reason is a collection that creates characters a younger audience can identify with. In so doing, poet Subathra Raman seeks to instill a love of words and nature at an early age. Some would say poetry is just for grown-ups. Well, that isn't true. A child can learn just as much from the written word as his or her father or mother. Poems in this collection focus on the varied themes of nature and its wonders, the animal kingdom, and vibrant personalities in a world of fantasy and imagination. Color photographs match the theme of each poem, and themes are far-reaching. For instance, Raman explains why words are so powerful-and how to use them to heal instead of hurt. She discusses how our thoughts control us, so why not have good thoughts? She also reminds young people to observe the wonders of nature and pay attention to life, one day at a time.

Book excerpt: If asked to list the greatest innovators of modern American poetry, few of us would think to include Jay-Z or Eminem in their number. And yet hip hop is the source of some of the most exciting developments in verse today. The media uproar in response to its controversial lyrical content has obscured hip hop's revolution of poetic craft and experience: Only in rap music can the beat of a song render poetic meter audible, allowing an MC's wordplay to move a club-full of eager listeners. Examining rap history's most memorable lyricists and their inimitable techniques, literary scholar Adam Bradley argues that we must understand rap as poetry or miss the vanguard of poetry today. Book of Rhymes explores America's least understood poets, unpacking their surprisingly complex craft, and according rap poetry the respect it deserves.

Book Silent Thoughts

Download or read book Silent Thoughts written by Angus Dike and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2013-09 with total page 131 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: God's word stretches as a parapet from the eternal past across the present into eternity. Christ has journeyed between the times. In His word He instructs and by His spirit He guides us into the age to come. Beyond space and time, well above the realms of human language and thinking, God speaks, and what He says, none can annul! The word of God is so meaningfully structured and arranged such that one cannot add, subtract or change one verse, one word, one chapter or book without impairing on the harmony and meaning of the whole. By the word our hearts are assayed, our deeds are graded and words are judged. The underlining structure, forms and functions of the universe are based on the word of God - the eternal emblem, crest and seal on all creation. Everything is controlled from the centre, the scientist calls it the nucleus but I call it the word - the centre and source of all life. The Holy Spirit is the glue that holds the bits and pieces of the scriptures together, if we neglect Him the scriptures will fall apart. The Christian is limited not by his physical abilities or lack of it but by his spiritual insights and revelations, his knowledge of God's word and will. Never look down to test the ground before obeying the voice of God, if you are willing to take the risk, God will confirm His word with great testimonies. Each verse, each chapter and book of the bible is a complete whole yet a part in a larger whole and must be interpreted inline with the larger whole- the Bible. Never allow yourself to become a slave to the tyrants, the errand sons of hell. Use the sword of the spirit- the word of life.
