Book Poems of Home and Travel Classic Reprint

Download or read book Poems of Home and Travel Classic Reprint written by Bayard Taylor and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-09 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Poems of Home and Travel To George H. Boker To you the homage of this book I bring. The earliest and the latest flowers I yield, And though their hues betray a barren field, I know you will not slight the offering. You were the mate of my poetic spring; To you its buds of little worth concealed More than the summer years have since revealed, Or doubtful autumn from the stem shall fling. But here they are, the buds, the blossoms blown; If rich or scant, the wreath is at your feet; And though it were the freshest ever grown, To you its incense could not be more sweet, Since with it goes a love to match your own, A heart, dear Friend, that never falsely beat. This book was released on 2018-07-30 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Songs of Travel and other verses by Robert Louis Stevenson (Author), Paula Benitez (Editor) The following collection of verses, written at various times and places, principally after the author's final departure from England in 1887, was sent home by him for publication some months before his death. He had tried them in several different orders and under several different titles, as "Songs and Notes of Travel," "Posthumous Poems," etc., and in the end left their naming and arrangement to the present editor, with the suggestion that they should be added as Book III. to future editions of "Underwoods." This suggestion it is proposed to carry out; but in the meantime, for the benefit of those who possess "Underwoods" in its original form, it has been thought desirable to publish them separately in the present volume. They have already been included in the Edinburgh Edition of the author's works. We are delighted to publish this classic book as part of our extensive Classic Library collection. Many of the books in our collection have been out of print for decades, and therefore have not been accessible to the general public. The aim of our publishing program is to facilitate rapid access to this vast reservoir of literature, and our view is that this is a significant literary work, which deserves to be brought back into print after many decades. The contents of the vast majority of titles in the Classic Library have been scanned from the original works. To ensure a high quality product, each title has been meticulously hand curated by our staff. Our philosophy has been guided by a desire to provide the reader with a book that is as close as possible to ownership of the original work. We hope that you will enjoy this wonderful classic work, and that for you it becomes an enriching experience.

Download or read book Drive Through The Night written by Frank Perero and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2022-12-30 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the great things about reading Frank's poems is that I was there for the genesis of some of them. He has an eye, an ear, and a heart that cuts right through to a New York long gone but still floating around the gargoyles of midtown. I'll read a poem of his and be instantly transported to the sweat-stained, passionate days of Paddy Reilly's and Rocky Sullivan's, and I'm so glad that Frank took the time to shepherd those crazy memories and turn them into fluid words on a page. Read these poems, and get a glimpse of lives that may have been abandoned but were well and truly lived. --Larry Kirwan Larry Kirwan is a musician, author, playwright, and host of Celtic Crush, a radio show on Sirius Satellite Radio. He was the cofounder and leader of the seminal NYC Irish rock band Black 47. His hit Broadway musical Paradise Square, which Larry conceived and cowrote the book for, made its debut on April 2022. It had originally appeared as Hard Times: An American Musical. Paradise Square was flattered when it took home the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Larry is currently completing work on his next Broadway musical, All the Rage. ***** "The night is forgiving as the day never is...," and so we climb into the backseat of Frank Perero's twilight journey of faith in his first collection of poetry, Drive through the Night. Perero's barroom balladeer tone goes from lofty to harsh reality, his rhythm an intimate dialogue between friends. Should you choose to travel with this everyman, you will encounter Sal the Barber, Clancy, and Sophocles. Wrapped in his profound aloneness, this fugitive of loves gone wrong, promises broken, and dreams shattered, Perero's words have the power to heal, comfort, and soften the blows of a chilly night as we, too, "join the parade..." --Maria Lisella Maria Lisella is an award-winning poet and travel writer. She served three years as the poet laureate of Queens in New York City. Her lauded works include Amore on Hope Street, Two Naked Feet, and Thieves in the Family. Maria is a poet laureate fellow of the Academy of American Poets and is the new poetry editor at Bordighera Press. ***** In his first published collection of poems, Drive Through the Night, Frank Perero tells us he feels "the might of the universe" when he puts "pen to paper." Perero is an old-time balladeer whose swordlike lines slash at the dragon of twenty-first-century angst as he soothes and entertains us in our interminable struggles against ennui, unrequited love, aging, adversity, modernity, melancholy, loneliness, and loss of faith. He is an indefatigable cheerleader of the spirit. And at the end of the day, we find ourselves at peace, a passenger of his poetry, sailing with him through the night." --Gil Fagiani Gil Fagiani was a poet, scholar, and translator. His poetry collections include Rooks; Grandpa's Wine, translated into Italian by Paul D'Agostino; A Blanquito in El Barrio; Chianti in Connecticut; Serfs of Psychiatry; and Stone Walls. His latest book is Logos (Guernica Editions 2015). Sadly, Gil passed away in April 2018. May he rest in peace. 64 i

Book SUNSHINE IN MY SUITCASE travels with a poet

Download or read book SUNSHINE IN MY SUITCASE travels with a poet written by Carolyn Caines and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-05-24 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who hasn't once thought how lovely it would be to bring home the sunshine in your suitcase? In this volume of poetry you can share the feeling of standing near a volcano, riding a catamaran in Hawaii, or eating reindeer stew in Finland. You may swim with turtles, go parasailing, or climb the Eiffel Tower. Even as travel photos evoke memories of places you have been, so do lines of poetry. They stir up the joy and laughter of another time and even cause one to contemplate new revelations or mysteries discovered along the way. I'll take a patch of blue sky to sew into this gray morning, a warm breeze around my shoulders, a bit of sun-washed sand under my feet when I get up. Why can't I bring home paradise? I'd let you feel it before it sinks back into the lining of my suitcase.

Book excerpt: "A startling new voice." -Patricia Smith, Author of Big Towns, Big Talk Collin Kelley's debut, Better To Travel, is a haunting cycle of poetry dispatched from the teeming streets of London and New York to the decadence of Paris and New Orleans. From these far-flung outposts, Kelley deftly and unblinkingly conveys the end of a relationship and the need to escape to "sights unseen." Readers have compared Kelley's poetry to the emotional work of Anne Sexton and Sharon Olds. This is confessional poetry in its truest form: raw, uninhibited and unflinching. www.collinkelley.com

Book Travelling in Place and to Other Places

This book was released on 2020-10-20 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Author Barbara Sher Tinsley grew up in Gloversville, a 19th-century town in upstate New York. "It had an excellent Carnegie Library, which I visited after the second grade all alone. I was turned on to literature by the story hour in that library. While the town produced a great American novelist (Richard Russo), it produced me, too, an historian, a poet. I attribute my writing interests to an excellent education beginning in this town, and to a happy home life with a huge victory garden, giving me a life-long love for gardening." A pandemic discourages travel. Who enjoys grocery shopping? Watching grim newscasts? Reading forgotten novels? Travelling in Place, etc., recalls our past, allowing for post-pandemic planning circling our yard, relaxing in bed. There, I "travel" to the third grade. (#1"Travel Companions"); relive a favorite childhood day (#21 "Picking Apples Near Cooperstown, N.Y.") or, as an adult, recall a book club (#28) meeting when some members didn't read the book; didn't understand it if they had. Travelling to "Other Places" tugs on our yearning to escape staying "in place." My frequent trips to Western Europe (#91 "From an Old Travel Journal") carries you from Normandy to Rome, and may remind you of your travels; your shaky mastery of foreign languages; your certain mastery of self! I travel here in my poetry in two ways: One, by reflecting on my past and present; its richness. This I call mental "travel." Such are poem #1, "Travelling Companions," and #2, "Porch Pillars." Others include #17, "Hill Climbing," and #18, "Hearts and Gardens," plus the plots of two novels, #7, "Holden," and #86, "The Golden Bowl." For reading, also see #28, "Book Club." Trips to a Mozart opera or to Georgia O'Keefe's or Vermeer's art exhibits in San Francisco are journeys, too. "Trips" to the German Renaissance (#73) and to classical Greece (#19) also moved me, after majoring in Renaissance-Reformation history and having written a book on classical antiquity, several on the Reformation. Is this travel? Decide for yourself, reader! Her extensive European travel (France, Spain, Italy) reveals poetry of conventional travel and residence, as in # 91, "From an Old Travel Journal," containing a series of thirteen related poems, from Frankfurt, to Normandy, Paris, Torino, Genoa, and Rome. (About the Author) World traveler Barbara Sher Tinsley has been a professor of French, humanities, world literature, history, and English composition at Stanford, Santa Clara University, San Jose State, Stephens College, and several community colleges in Northern California. Now retired, she has published four books on European history; a novel on Italian culture; and articles in various encyclopedias and academic journals. This is her fourth book of poetry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An entrepreneurial and engineering genius, Leroy Hill left his mark on 20th century aviation. But that was just the beginning. As a gifted Berkeley engineering graduate in the late teens, Hill succeeded in reengineering the famous "Liberty Engine" of World War I to fit into the legendary fighter DH-4, or "Flying Coffin." In the late 1920s his passion for aviation brought him to a new marketplace as twelve-year president of Air Associates that remarkable aviation catalog of everything from plane parts and repairs to whole aircraft. Later, in World War II, he founded the company that manufactured and distributed all the hose-clamps for the popular P-51 Mustang Fighter.A true entrepreneur, Leroy Hill was involved in sixty different companies either designing new technologies or marketing improved versions of the old. Politically, he was a lifelong anti-union activist working in the most unionized industries in the nation. Though he marched lockstep with no one, Hill remained to the end of his life a hardbitten opponent of big government who championed many conservative movements of his day. From Leroy Hill's substantial archives, including his voluminous diaries, author Craig Miner has distilled the heady public and private dynamics of an extraordinary life."
