Book Poems for Longevity Life Extension and Rejuvenation

Download or read book Poems for Longevity Life Extension and Rejuvenation written by Bob Guth and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2022-06-23 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This present volume is basically a rewrite of an earlier book of poems that was entitled, "Poems for Living Longer and Popping Out of the Aging Box." So much new information on how to extend your life has come out since the earlier volume was published that I thought it necessary to add the new material and in doing so, it became obvious that the old title simply did not fit and so this new book of verse has a new title. One of the biggest changes is in the chapter on life extension that has a whole new section that I called "Life Extension's Modus Operandi." In it there many very powerful energy exercises and meditations that the life extension student should find very helpful. Also added are many new poems, including a poem on the long-fast, and a poem that informs the reader that the basic design of the human body is to live over 200 years. And another new poem looks at how humans create the ills that afflict them. And I added poems on youthing, sexuality and becoming a master. Included in this volume is everything I am aware of in the way of practices, processes, techniques, and procedures that can be used to attain longevity and life extension. The reader is encouraged, nay challenged even, to do all of them to the best of their ability to get the most out of this book and receive the greatest benefit from it. Additionally, I feel that for some, the ideas in this book on longevity and life extension may be better accepted in rhyme than they would be in a document or text with many references to authority figures, etc. The idea of living twice as long as humans currently do is hard to accept for most people because today nobody lives that long. But when these ideas are read in poem and verse it may be a little easier for them to be accepted.

Book excerpt: Winner, 2015 Colorado Book Award Finalist, 2015 National Book Critics Circle Award In the years leading up to his recent passing, Alabama poet Jake Adam York set out on a journey to elegize the 126 martyrs of the civil rights movement, murdered in the years between 1954 and 1968. Abide is the stunning follow-up to York’s earlier volumes, a memorial in verse for those fallen. From Birmingham to Okemah, Memphis to Houston, York’s poems both mourn and inspire in their quest for justice, ownership, and understanding. Within are anthems to John Earl Reese, a sixteen-year-old shot by Klansmen through the window of a café in Mayflower, Texas, where he was dancing in 1955; to victims lynched on the Oklahoma prairies; to the four children who perished in the Birmingham church bombing of 1963; and to families who saw the white hoods of the Klan illuminated by burning crosses. Juxtaposed with these horrors are more loving images of the South: the aroma of greens simmering on the stove, “tornado-strong” houses built by loved ones long gone, and the power of rivers “dark as roux.” Throughout these lush narratives, York resurrects the ghosts of Orpheus, Sun Ra, Howlin’ Wolf, Thelonious Monk, Woody Guthrie, and more, summoning blues, jazz, hip-hop, and folk musicians for performances of their “liberation music” that give special meaning to the tales of the dead. In the same moment that Abide memorializes the fallen, it also raises the ethical questions faced by York during this, his life’s work: What does it mean to elegize? What does it mean to elegize martyrs? What does it mean to disturb the symmetries of the South’s racial politics or its racial poetics? A bittersweet elegy for the poet himself, Abide is as subtle and inviting as the whisper of a record sleeve, the gasp of the record needle, beckoning us to heed our history.

Book excerpt: An exquisite anthology of poems about age and aging, to be savored and given to loved ones through the years At eighty-two, the novelist Penelope Lively wrote: "Our experience is one unknown to most of humanity, over time. We are the pioneers." COMING TO AGE is a collection of dispatches from the great poet-pioneers who have been fortunate enough to live into their later years. Those later years can be many things: a time of harvesting, of gathering together the various strands of the past and weaving them into a rich fabric. They can also be a new beginning, an exploration of the unknown. We speak of "growing old." And indeed, as we too often forget, aging is growing, growing into a new stage of life, one that can be a fulfillment of all that has come before. To everything there is a season. Poetry speaks to them all. Just as we read newspapers for news of the world, we read poetry for news of ourselves. Poets, particularly those who have lived and written into old age, have much to tell us. Bringing together a range of voices both present and past, from Emily Dickinson and W. H. Auden to Louise Gluck and Li-Young Lee, COMING TO AGE reveals new truths, offers spiritual sustenance, and reminds us of what we already know but may have forgotten, illuminating the profound beauty and significance of commonplace moments that become more precious and radiant as we grow older.

Book Coming of Age at the End of Nature

Download or read book Coming of Age at the End of Nature written by Julie Dunlap and published by Trinity University Press. This book was released on 2016-09-19 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Coming of Age at the End of Nature explores a new kind of environmental writing. This powerful anthology gathers the passionate voices of young writers who have grown up in an environmentally damaged and compromised world. Each contributor has come of age since Bill McKibben foretold the doom of humanity’s ancient relationship with a pristine earth in his prescient 1988 warning of climate change, The End of Nature. What happens to individuals and societies when their most fundamental cultural, historical, and ecological bonds weaken—or snap? In Coming of Age at the End of Nature, insightful millennials express their anger and love, dreams and fears, and sources of resilience for living and thriving on our shifting planet. Twenty-two essays explore wide-ranging themes that are paramount to young generations but that resonate with everyone, including redefining materialism and environmental justice, assessing the risk and promise of technology, and celebrating place anywhere from a wild Atlantic island to the Arizona desert, to Baltimore and Bangkok. The contributors speak with authority on problems facing us all, whether railing against the errors of past generations, reveling in their own adaptability, or insisting on a collective responsibility to do better.
