Book Exclusi n social y desigualdad

Download or read book Exclusi n social y desigualdad written by Luis Ayala Cañón and published by EDITUM. This book was released on 2008 with total page 414 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Exclusi n social y reducci n de la pobreza en Am rica Latina y Caribe written by Carlos Sojo and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication brings together the papers presented in the workshop, "Social Exclusion and Poverty Reduction workshop in the Latin America and the Caribbean Region", and the discussion process that took place afterwards. This publication is the result of a long process of collaboration and dialogue between the authors and the World Bank team. This book contributes to the definition of a conceptual and methodological framework for understanding social exclusion and the processes that cause poverty as well as to the discussion of policy instruments to tackle exclusion. The seven chapters that follow the introduction explore from different disciplines (economy, anthropology, sociology, political science, juridical science), the notion of social exclusion in Latin America and the Caribbean. All the studies stem from a common question regarding the validity of the social exclusion approach for understanding the poverty, inequality, and marginalization prevailing in the region. Starting from this basic question, each chapter contributes to the development of a common conceptual and methodological framework and discusses, either in terms of societal models or specific case studies the analytical and policy implications of applying a social exclusion perspective. Although all authors conclude by emphasizing the relevance and necessity of adopting the social exclusion approach as an analytical-policy-making tool, they also highlight the need for further developing the conceptual and methodological framework in order to be able to map with greater precision the relationships between the different dimensions of social exclusion, their interactions, and the specific weight that each one of them has in the generation of exclusionary processes. The authors emphasize that only in this way will it be possible to fully utilize the social exclusion framework as a valuable operational policy-oriented tool

Book Qu hacemos contra la pobreza

Download or read book Qu hacemos contra la pobreza written by Guillermo Fernández Maillo and published by Ediciones Akal, S.A.. This book was released on 2014-03-28 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Risk assessment is one of the main parts of complex systematic research of natural and man-made hazards and risks together with the concepts of risk analysis, risk management, acceptable risk, and risk reduction. It is considered as the process of making a recommendation on whether existing risks are acceptable and present risk control measures are adequate, and if they are not, whether alternative risk control measures are justified or will be implemented. Risk assessment incorporates the risk analysis and risk evaluation phases. Risk management is considered as the complete process of risk assessment, risk control, and risk reduction. The book reflects on the state-of-the-art problems and addresses the risk assessment to establish the criteria for ranking risk posed by different types of natural or man-made hazards and disasters, to quantify the impact that hazardous event or process has on population and structures, and to enhance the strategies for risk reduction and avoiding.

Book The Routledge Handbook of Urban Studies in Latin America and the Caribbean

Download or read book The Routledge Handbook of Urban Studies in Latin America and the Caribbean written by Jesús M. González-Pérez and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-07-19 with total page 669 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook presents the great contemporary challenges facing cities and urban spaces in Latin America and the Caribbean. The content of this multidisciplinary book is organized into four large sections focusing on the histories and trajectories of urban spatial development, inequality and displacement of urban populations, contemporary debates on urban policies, and the future of the city in this region. Scholars of diverse origins and specializations analyze Latin American and Caribbean cities showing that, despite their diversity, they share many characteristics and challenges and that there is value in systematizing this knowledge to both understand and explain them better and to promote increasing equity and sustainability. The contributions in this handbook enhance the theoretical, empirical and methodological study of urbanization processes and urban policies of Latin America and the Caribbean in a global context, making it an important reference for scholars across the world. The book is designed to meet the interdisciplinary study and consultation needs of undergraduate and graduate students of architecture, urban design, urban planning, sociology, anthropology, political science, public administration, and more.
