Book Pathophysiology of Plasma Protein Metabolism

Download or read book Pathophysiology of Plasma Protein Metabolism written by Giulian Mariant and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book represents a factual account of the proceedings of an international symposium on the pathophysiology of plasma protein metabolism, which was organised in October 1982 by the Plasmaprotein and Immunology Division of the C.N.R. Institute of Clinical Physiology at the University of Pisa (Italy). Several of the contributors are former members of the International Study Group on Plasma Protein Metabolism, the last meeting of which was held in Turin (Italy) in 1974, under the auspices of the scientific organisation of the same institute. The symposium took the form of a series of lectures, with the main objective of providing a positive contribution to the state of the art of several topics related to the kinetic and pathophysiological factors regulating the synthesis, distribution and degradation of plasma proteins. The first four chapters form a group, each one considering a special aspect of the kinetics of turnover and distribution of plasma proteins in general; particular attention is paid to the recent advances in the field of kinetic modelling, the choice of the best models and the optimisation of the experimental designs. The next seven chapters consider the regulation of synthesis, distribution and catab olism of various classes of plasma proteins including albumin, immunoglobulins, complement fractions and acute-phase proteins. The remaining chapters deal with metabolic studies of various plasma proteins (including tumour markers, coagUlation proteins and lipoproteins) in different disease states, such as malig nancies, coagulative disorders, malnutrition and the extensive group of athero sclerotic cardiovascular diseases.

Book Advances in Immunology

Download or read book Advances in Immunology written by and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1984-01-04 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The selection of subjects presented in this volume reflects the broad scope of immunologic interest. Most of the progress in the field depends upon elucidation of the genetic basis underlying the immune system's structure and function, and three important genetic areas are represented. They include presentation of a new group of T cell alloantigens with many similarities to the immunoglobulin isotype markers for B cells, discussion of the recently recognized heterogeneity of Class I MHC antigens, and a review of the structure and function of human Ir genes. Additional areas of expanding interest are indicated by three reviews that derive in part from neighboring fields of science but deal with matters of considerable immunologic importance. These are a discussion of interferon, particularly as it relates to and influences immunologic events, a review of the acute phase response to injury which has many paraIlels to and interfaces with the immune response, and, finally, a description of the lectin receptor markers of immunocytes and the imaginative lectin technology that has contributed significantly to the identification of the various functionally heterogeneous lymphocyte populations.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 1991 International Yearbook of Nephrology is the third in a sueeessful .eries whieh has, as its principal aim, thc presentation of a eomprehensive list of topfes of the greatest current relevanee to elinieal nephrologists. We believe that, by following the subjeets eovered by the Yearbook in the broad field of nephrology, the praetieing nephrologist and nephrologist-in-training ean stay abreast of a number of rapidly advaneing fields. To improve the quality of the Yearbook, we have appointed an Editorial Board to provfde suggestions for topies and authors. Thus, we have invited 58 outstanding nephrologists from around the world (the list of them is included in this issue of the Yearbook) to identify annually potential topies for the Yearbook. The reply was exeel lent and the contribution quite outstanding. Thus, for the 1992 Yearbook, we reeeived more than 150 suggestions. A number of them will be included in the next issue if they continue to be viewed as eurrent and important. We also invite readers to suggest topies for upeoming issues of the Yearbook. The present issue, the 1991 Yearbook, represents an improvement over previous volumes. We expeet this trend to be maintained in future years. As in previous issues, all ehapters provide a eomplete, aeeurate and up-to-date list of important references. We are grateful to all the authors for their exeellent eontributions and for having fulfilled the deadline in forwarding their manuseript. Our special thanks to Kluwer Aeademie Publishers for the timely publieation of this volume.
