Download or read book Planting and Harvesting Seasons in Latin America Classic Reprint written by Mary S. Coyner and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-12-21 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Planting and Harvesting Seasons in Latin America This is a revision of Foreign Agriculture Report No. 32, Planting and Harvesting Dates in Latin America, published in 1948; In this new bulletin, we have brought together additional data which supplement and, in some cases, change information published formerly. Completeness of the data given varies from country to country, both for number of crops and for regional breakdown. As in other regions of the world, crop seasons in the Latin American countries vary with ecological conditions existent in the area of the country in which the crop is planted. In countries with tropical and semitropical or temperate conditions, obviously the planting and harvesting seasons will vary with the season for these respective areas. This material has been obtained from Embassy reports and from official sources. The data have been reviewed by U. S. Agricultural officers in Latin America or by those responsible for agricultural reporting. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Planting and Harvesting Seasons for Africa and West Asia Classic Reprint

Download or read book Planting and Harvesting Seasons for Africa and West Asia Classic Reprint written by Ione Bauman and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-29 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Planting and Harvesting Seasons for Africa and West Asia The listing is not intended to be a complete inventory of all crops grown in a country. The criterion of selection of the minor crops listed was simply one of availability of data. Therefore the inclusion of a commodity for one country and the exclusion of the same commodity from another country is not to be regarded as an indication of the relative importance of that commodity in the respective countries. For many countries in Africa, their respective tropical and/or semi tropical climates permit the growing and harvesting of products the year around. In this case it is impractical to assign the bulk of the harvest to any particular series of months, so the harvesting season is given as Throughout year. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a time of climate change and mass extinction, how we garden matters more than ever: “An outstanding and deeply passionate book.” —Marc Bekoff, author of The Emotional Lives of Animals Plenty of books tell home gardeners and professional landscape designers how to garden sustainably, what plants to use, and what resources to explore. Yet few examine why our urban wildlife gardens matter so much—not just for ourselves, but for the larger human and animal communities. Our landscapes push aside wildlife and in turn diminish our genetically programmed love for wildness. How can we get ourselves back into balance through gardens, to speak life's language and learn from other species? Benjamin Vogt addresses why we need a new garden ethic, and why we urgently need wildness in our daily lives—lives sequestered in buildings surrounded by monocultures of lawn and concrete that significantly harm our physical and mental health. He examines the psychological issues around climate change and mass extinction as a way to understand how we are short-circuiting our response to global crises, especially by not growing native plants in our gardens. Simply put, environmentalism is not political; it's social justice for all species marginalized today and for those facing extinction tomorrow. By thinking deeply and honestly about our built landscapes, we can create a compassionate activism that connects us more profoundly to nature and to one another.

Book Growing Up Ethnic in America

Download or read book Growing Up Ethnic in America written by Maria Mazziotti Gillan and published by Penguin. This book was released on 1999-11-01 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stories navigating the commplicated terrain of race in America, from acclaimed writers like Toni Morrison, E.L. Doctorow, Sandra Cisneros, Sherman Alexie, and Amy Tan The editors who brought us Unsettling America and Identity Lessons have compiled a short-story anthology that focuses on themes of racial and ethnic assimilation. With humor, passion, and grace, the contributors lay bare poignant attempts at conformity and the alienation sometimes experienced by ethnic Americans. But they also tell of the strength gained through the preservation of their communities, and the realization that it was often their difference from the norm that helped them to succeed. In pieces suggesting that American identity is far from settled, these writers illustrate the diversity that is the source of both the nation's great discord and infinite promise. "These beautiful stories radiate with the poignant, ingenious ways young people come to terms with their ethnic identities, negotiating their families, school, friends and their futures . . . This exemplary collection fulfills the editors' aims: to open dialogue and encourage the telling of difficult, adaptive or affirming life experiences." -Publisher's Weekly
