Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Underground pipelines transporting liquid petroleum products and natural gas are critical components of civil infrastructure, making corrosion prevention an essential part of asset-protection strategy. Underground Pipeline Corrosion provides a basic understanding of the problems associated with corrosion detection and mitigation, and of the state of the art in corrosion prevention. The topics covered in part one include: basic principles for corrosion in underground pipelines, AC-induced corrosion of underground pipelines, significance of corrosion in onshore oil and gas pipelines, numerical simulations for cathodic protection of pipelines, and use of corrosion inhibitors in managing corrosion in underground pipelines. The methods described in part two for detecting corrosion in underground pipelines include: magnetic flux leakage, close interval potential surveys (CIS/CIPS), Pearson surveys, in-line inspection, and use of both electrochemical and optical probes. While the emphasis is on pipelines transporting fossil fuels, the concepts apply as well to metallic pipes for delivery of water and other liquids. Underground Pipeline Corrosion is a comprehensive resource for corrosion, materials, chemical, petroleum, and civil engineers constructing or managing both onshore and offshore pipeline assets; professionals in steel and coating companies; and academic researchers and professors with an interest in corrosion and pipeline engineering. Reviews the causes and considers the detection and prevention of corrosion to underground pipes Addresses a lack of current, readily available information on the subject Case studies demonstrate how corrosion is managed in the underground pipeline industry

Book Corrosion Protection for the Oil and Gas Industry

Download or read book Corrosion Protection for the Oil and Gas Industry written by Mavis Sika Okyere and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-02-14 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Corrosion Protection for the Oil and Gas Industry: Pipelines, Subsea Equipment, and Structures summarizes the main causes of corrosion and requirements for materials protection, selection of corrosion-resistant materials and coating materials commonly used for corrosion protection, and the limitations to their use, application, and repair. This book focuses on the protection of steels against corrosion in an aqueous environment, either immersed in seawater or buried. It also includes guidelines for the design of cathodic protection systems and reviews of cathodic protection methods, materials, installation, and monitoring. It is concerned primarily with the external and internal corrosion protection of onshore pipelines and subsea pipelines, but reference is also made to the protection of other equipment, subsea structures, risers, and shore approaches. Two case studies, design examples, and the author’s own experiences as a pipeline integrity engineer are featured in this book. Readers will develop a high quality and in-depth understanding of the corrosion protection methods available and apply them to solve corrosion engineering problems. This book is aimed at students, practicing engineers, and scientists as an introduction to corrosion protection for the oil and gas industry, as well as to overcoming corrosion issues.

In addition, the author provides expert insight on a number of NACE and DNV standards and recommended practices as well as ISO and Standard and Test Methods. Packed with tables, charts and case studies, Corrosion Control for Offshore Structures is a valuable guide to offshore corrosion control both in terms of its theory and application. Prolong the structural life of your offshore platforms and pipelines Understand critical topics such as cathodic protection and coating as corrosion prevention with mill applied coatings Gain expert insight on a number of NACE and DNV standards and recommended practices as well as ISO and Standard Test Methods.

Book Modeling of Pipeline Corrosion Control by Cathodic Protection

Download or read book Modeling of Pipeline Corrosion Control by Cathodic Protection written by Mohammed Hafiz and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2012-07 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modeling of pipeline corrosion control by cathodic protection, has been made. It can augment the design process and present a number of experimentally determined factors that should be applied to present modeling code development. To improve the computational approach to cathodic protection system design for bare and coated pipe, different factors e.g. environment resistivity, different coating materials, current density, location of anode and attenuation potential along the pipe must be taken into account. It is found that polyethylene tape coating is more proper than other coatings which act to electrically isolate the pipeline from its surroundings, thus cutting off the return electron path and preventing the formation of a corrosion cell. Coatings protect more than 99% of the pipe surface. Increasing the environment resistivity decreases corrosion rate and current density. Moreover, location of anode can be controlled by potential and current density, which has a major effect on corrosion rate of partial cathodic protection. Environment resistivity affects limiting current density which is found to be important.

Book Forecasting and Alleviating AC Induced Pipeline Corrosion with Cathodic Protection

Download or read book Forecasting and Alleviating AC Induced Pipeline Corrosion with Cathodic Protection written by Ajit Kumar Thakur and published by Mohammed Abdul Sattar. This book was released on 2024-03-25 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasing energy demand has necessitated the use of more efficient modes of transportation. Two primary modes of energy transfer include pipelines and transmission lines. Pipelines ensure the bulk transport of gas and oil, and transmission lines ensure the transfer of electrical energy. Transmission lines and pipelines both facilitate the connection of supply and demand centers. Transmission lines and pipelines are linear systems that frequently run parallel or intersect at various locations. Due to land availability constraints, more and more pipelines and transmission lines are laid in the same corridors. Pipelines near transmission lines are susceptible to accelerated corrosion due to alternating current voltage from high voltage alternating current power lines. Underground pipelines/structures are typically coated to arrest corrosion from outside. Cathodic protection system as secondary protection, supplement coatings to prevent decay.
