The boundaries of the Pioneer Stake originally were from East Temple, now Main Street, to the shores of the Great Salt Lake and from Third South to Twenty-first South Streets in Salt Lake City, Utah. There were eleven wards in the original stake boundaries: the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, twenty-fifth, twenty-sixts, Thirtieth, Thirty-second, Cannon, Brighton, and Pleasant Green Wards. Book African Homecoming

Download or read book African Homecoming written by Katharina Schramm and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-06-16 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: African Americans and others in the African diaspora have increasingly “come home” to Africa to visit the sites at which their ancestors were enslaved and shipped. In this nuanced analysis of homecoming, Katharina Schramm analyzes how a shared rhetoric of the (Pan-)African family is produced among African hosts and Diasporan returnees and at the same time contested in practice. She examines the varying interpretations and appropriations of significant sites (e.g. the slave forts), events (e.g. Emancipation Day) and discourses (e.g. repatriation) in Ghana to highlight these dynamics. From this, she develops her notions of diaspora, home, homecoming, memory and identity that reflect the complexity and multiple reverberations of these cultural encounters beyond the sphere of roots tourism.

Book The Spiritual Formation of Evelyn Underhill

Download or read book The Spiritual Formation of Evelyn Underhill written by Robyn Wrigley-Carr and published by SPCK. This book was released on 2020-03-20 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the renewed interest in Evelyn Underhill with the publication of Evelyn Underhill’s Prayer Book (SPCK, January 2018), the time seems right to offer a fresh perspective on the writer’s spiritual formation. Having undertaken original research, Robyn Wrigley-Carr first explores the spiritual nurture that Evelyn Underhill received from Baron Friedrich von Hügel (‘to whom I owe my spiritual life’). Second she reveals the spiritual nurture that Underhill gave to people herself, utilizing both published and unpublished materials. At the heart of the book is the idea of a ‘long obedience in the same direction’: Underhill’s life had purpose and meaning as a result of the Baron’s spiritual direction and the soul care she tirelessly bestowed on others.
