Book Physiological Basis of Acute Care E Book

Download or read book Physiological Basis of Acute Care E Book written by Yoo Kuen Chan and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2012-03-16 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to simplify physiological principles in a logical manner and provide important and relevant content to help care providers better manage their acutely ill patients. First time learners as well as health care professionals needing a short refresher course in physiology will find simple, easy-to-understand, basic physiology that is relevant to both the student and the professional care provider. With a focus on the importance of good oxygen delivery as the basis of sustaining life, this book links the fabric of life together and enables readers to apply the principles of physiology to clinical problems and situations. Understanding why the patient has become unwell and how the patient may present, signs and symptoms of patient deterioration as well as the recommended management of these patients enables the care provider to prioritize care decisions relating to the needs of the acutely ill patient. Thus, care providers will be able to incorporate this new way of examining patients so that care which is often approached in a clinical manner, will now be physiologically driven. • Chapters that link the management of life such as Basis of Life and Physiology of Death for frontline providers. • Chapters covering important organ systems from airway to kidney, including energy, heat and acid-base balance. • Special chapters on maternal-foetal, paediatrics, elderly and obesity. • Clinical implication and application sections within each chapter for students to relate to clinical practice. • Medical illustrations by Frank Netter, the foremost master of medical illustration. • 58 fully coloured illustrations, diagrams and charts to enhance learning and understanding. • Content reviewed by international and Malaysian academicians. Table of Contents 1. What is Physiology? 2. Basis of Life 3. Oxygen Delivery to the Tissues 4. Physiology of the Airway 5. Process of Breathing 6. Cardiovascular Physiology 7. Book Pharmacological Basis of Acute Care

Download or read book Pharmacological Basis of Acute Care written by Yoo Kuen Chan and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-11-19 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the 4th in a series of Acute Care books written with the aim to address the NEEDS of health care providers when handling the acutely ill patients. Globally it has become apparent that the study of pharmacology and subsequent clinical training has not always adequately equipped young doctors with the ability to administer drugs to their patients safely and confidently, particularly in the critically ill patient. Compounding this issue is the lack of resource material related to these pharmacological concepts contained in one book that can help health care providers to understand and manage drug therapy in the acute situation. In spite of progressively newer and more developed protocols, guidelines, algorithms and many other books addressing the technical aspects of what needs to be done, most health care providers still find it difficult to grasp the basic pharmacological knowledge and rationally deliver the CARE that is required in the acute phase of patient management. The editors/authors have therefore aimed for a book that highlights topics and pharmacological issues pertinent to management of patients in their hour of need. This is a multi-author book but the style has been guided by 3 editors. The editors have used a different perspective – that of normalizing abnormal physiological processes with pharmacological agents – to address the GAPS in a bedside to bench approach. The details are pared down but important principles/concepts are emphasized.

This book was released on 2011-06-28 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critical situations in acute and emergency care are one of the great clinical challenges because of the uncertainty, high stakes, time pressure, and stress that are involved. This book provides a comprehensive outline of all the human factors issues relevant to patient safety during acute care. Following an initial section discussing the basic principles of human behavior and decision making, the various influences on safe patient care are discussed in depth. These are divided into three interacting groups: individual factors, team factors, and organizational factors. Relevant psychological theories are carefully examined, and case studies and descriptions of proven strategies help to ground these theories in daily practice. This newly revised edition, in which each chapter has been enlarged and updated, will help both physicians and non-physicians to better understand the principles of human behavior and decision making in critical situations and thus to provide safer treatment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "...it is refreshing to review a book that doesn’t claim to include everything but literally provides a foundation by focusing upon key areas within Emergency Care – to borrow that hackneyed phrase – “it does what it says on the tin”!" Tim Barr, Cardiff University, UK The Foundations of Emergency Care is an accessible text that brings together both academic and clinical experts to combine coverage of the clinical skills and underpinning theoretical knowledge essential to practice within the modern emergency setting. Using an evidenced-based and protocol driven approach, this clinical companion guides readers through a multitude of common patient scenarios, to help them acquire essential skills in assessment and priority assignment in an emergency care setting. Each chapter includes scenarios that utilise common emergency care presentations to clearly demonstrate how practitioners can identify critical illness at an early stage through understanding how disease and illness affect normal physiology and how this relates to the patient’s clinical presentation. This ability to critically analyse physical findings assists the practitioner in becoming a specialist and directly saves lives. Key areas covered include: Cardiac Emergencies: including the new 2006 ALS guidelines Head Injuries Acute Surgical Emergencies Gynaecologic and Obstetric Emergencies Respiratory Distress Paediatric Emergencies Minor Trauma and Illness Major Trauma Acute Medical Emergencies The book also includes scenarios that cover the treatment of the elderly and those presenting with mental health emergencies. This important new book encourages readers to reflect on their clinical encounters to gain further insight into relevant treatment options and illustrates how critical thinking can be applied in emergency care.
