Book Physics Bengali Edition

Download or read book Physics Bengali Edition written by Shyam Mehta and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2009-07-11 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From an ex-colleague of mine who came first in his year at Physics in Cambridge University: "If the message is that western physics is wrong, then everybody will agree, because it is widely accepted that modern physics has not yet found the explanation for the most important phenomena in the universe, and that its major triumphs refer to experiments where the present theories are not tested to their limits. An idea mentioned in the book is that light moves instantaneously, and that it takes time for impressions to reach us."

Book The Making of Modern Physics in Colonial India

Download or read book The Making of Modern Physics in Colonial India written by Somaditya Banerjee and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-05-14 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph offers a cultural history of the development of physics in India during the first half of the twentieth century, focusing on Indian physicists Satyendranath Bose (1894-1974), Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman (1888-1970) and Meghnad Saha (1893-1956). The analytical category "bhadralok physics" is introduced to explore how it became possible for a highly successful brand of modern science to develop in a country that was still under colonial domination. The term Bhadralok refers to the then emerging group of native intelligentsia, who were identified by academic pursuits and manners. Exploring the forms of life of this social group allows a better understanding of the specific character of Indian modernity that, as exemplified by the work of bhadralok physicists, combined modern science with indigenous knowledge in an original program of scientific research. The three scientists achieved the most significant scientific successes in the new revolutionary field of quantum physics, with such internationally recognized accomplishments as the Saha ionization equation (1921), the famous Bose-Einstein statistics (1924), and the Raman Effect (1928), the latter discovery having led to the first ever Nobel Prize awarded to a scientist from Asia. This book analyzes the responses by Indian scientists to the radical concept of the light quantum, and their further development of this approach outside the purview of European authorities. The outlook of bhadralok physicists is characterized here as "cosmopolitan nationalism," which allows us to analyze how the group pursued modern science in conjunction with, and as an instrument of Indian national liberation.

Book An Introductory Course of Particle Physics

Download or read book An Introductory Course of Particle Physics written by Palash B. Pal and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2014-07-29 with total page 818 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For graduate students unfamiliar with particle physics, An Introductory Course of Particle Physics teaches the basic techniques and fundamental theories related to the subject. It gives students the competence to work out various properties of fundamental particles, such as scattering cross-section and lifetime. The book also gives a lucid summary of the main ideas involved. In giving students a taste of fundamental interactions among elementary particles, the author does not assume any prior knowledge of quantum field theory. He presents a brief introduction that supplies students with the necessary tools without seriously getting into the nitty-gritty of quantum field theory, and then explores advanced topics in detail. The book then discusses group theory, and in this case the author assumes that students are familiar with the basic definitions and properties of a group, and even SU(2) and its representations. With this foundation established, he goes on to discuss representations of continuous groups bigger than SU(2) in detail. The material is presented at a level that M.Sc. and Ph.D. students can understand, with exercises throughout the text at points at which performing the exercises would be most beneficial. Anyone teaching a one-semester course will probably have to choose from the topics covered, because this text also contains advanced material that might not be covered within a semester due to lack of time. Thus it provides the teaching tool with the flexibility to customize the course to suit your needs.

Book The Changing Role of Women in Bengal 1849 1905

Download or read book The Changing Role of Women in Bengal 1849 1905 written by Meredith Borthwick and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2015-12-08 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Basing her work on Bengali-language sources, such as women's journals, private papers, biographies, and autobiographies, Meredith Borthwick approaches the lives of women in nineteenth-century Bengal from a new standpoint. She moves beyond the record of the heated debates held by men of this period—over matters such as widow burning, child marriage, and female education—to explore the effects of changes in society on the lives of women and to question assumptions about "advances" prompted by British rule. Focusing on the wives, mothers, and daughters of the English-educated Bengali professional class, Dr. Borthwick contends that many reforms merely substituted a restrictive British definition of womanhood for traditional Hindu norms. The positive gains for women—increased physical freedom, the acquisition of literacy, and limited entry to nondomestic work—often brought unforeseen negative consequences, such as a reduction in autonomy and power in the household. Originally published in 1984. This book was released on 2008 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Introductory Course of Statistical Mechanics introduces the subject to readers without any prior knowledge of the subject. In most textbooks, Statistical Mechanics appears to be a branch of Condensed Matter Physics. This book has a different perspective. It gives great importance to relativistic systems, thus paving the way for various applications of Statistical Mechanics, from nuclear reactions to Astrophysics and Cosmology. Non-relativistic systems and their applications to Condensed Matter Physics are not abandoned either: there are discussions on gases, liquids and magnetic systems. The book ends with one chapter on Phase Transitions and one on Boltzmann equation. Overall, the book presents Statistical Mechanics from a broader perspective encompassing many branches of Physics.

Download or read book Being Bengali written by Mridula Nath Chakraborty and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-03-26 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bengal has long been one of the key centres of civilisation and culture in the Indian subcontinent. However, Bengali identity – "Bengaliness" – is complicated by its long history of evolution, the fact that Bengal is now divided between India and Bangladesh, and by virtue of a very large international diaspora from both parts of Bengal. This book explores a wide range of issues connected with Bengali identity. Amongst other subjects, it considers the special problems arising as a result of the division of Bengal, and concludes by demonstrating that there are many factors which make for the idea of a Bengali identity.
