Book Photon Echo Decay and Optical Storage in Pr Doped YAIO3

Download or read book Photon Echo Decay and Optical Storage in Pr Doped YAIO3 written by Stefan Kroll and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Homogeneous dephasing processes and optical storage in Pr doped YA1O3 crystals have been examined using photon echoes produced by gated continuous wave laser excitation. The two-pulse photon echo decay time of the 3 H4 - 1 D2 transition in 0.1% Pr3+:YA103 has been measured as a function of excitation pulse energy. The excitation energy dependence of the decay time is essentially the same for the first and the second pulse in the excitation sequence. This is different from the behaviour recently observed in Eu3+:Y2O3 and Tb3+:LiYF4, where mainly the second pulse intensity affected the two-pulse photon echo decay time. By frequency chirping write and read pulses, photon echo data storage and recall of about 50 bits at a single location have been performed using a continuous wave dye laser and a copropagating geometry for the excitation beams. Single-shot storage and recall was performed with very good signal-to-noise ratio. The bit rate in the data sequence was approx. 20 MHz. The decay rate and storage experiments are separately described below.

Book Spectroscopy of Crystals Containing Rare Earth Ions

Download or read book Spectroscopy of Crystals Containing Rare Earth Ions written by A.A. Kaplyanskii and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 767 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ``Spectroscopy of Crystals Containing Rare Earth Ions'' contains chapters on some key problems selected from a broad range of spectroscopic studies of RE-activated solids including both crystalline and glassy materials. Progress in crystal field theory is surveyed, an area which is basic to our understanding of the energy levels. The treatment of dynamical properties includes studies of coherence phenomena in isolated ions, energy transfer between ions and co-operative phenomena associated with ion-ion and ion-lattice interactions. In addition, the role of electron spins and nuclear spins is studied by light scattering and double resonance techniques. The presence of inhomogeneous broadening of spectral lines is observed and studied in many contexts, leading to new insights into general problems of the disordered state. Considerable attention is devoted to describing new experimental techniques whose development is of prime importance for progress in the spectroscopy of RE-activated solids. Many of these rely on the development and application of tunable lasers. At the moment this is a very active field of spectroscopy with more exciting developments likely to occur in the future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Small-Animal SPECT Imaging is an edited work derived from the first workshop on Small-Animal SPECT Imaging held January 14-16, 2004 at the University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ, USA. The overall goal of the meeting and therefore this volume is to promote information exchange and collaboration between the research groups developing systems for small-animal applications. Topics include the biomedical significance of small-animal imaging, an overview of detector technologies including scintillation cameras and semi-conductor arrays, imager design and data acquisition systems, animal handling and anesthesia issues, objective assessment of image quality, and system modeling and reconstruction algorithms.

Book Resonance Effects of Excitons and Electrons

Download or read book Resonance Effects of Excitons and Electrons written by Ion Geru and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-06-01 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the various types of resonance effects on excitons, biexcitons and the local electronic centers (LEC) in solids, such as paramagnetic and paraelectric resonances on excitons, exciton acoustic resonance at intra- and interband transitions, radio-optical double resonance on excitons, hole-nuclear double resonance on localized biexcitons, ENDOR and acoustic ENDOR on LEC. The criteria for the generation of coherent photons, phonons and magnons by excitons are explained. The interactions of excitons and biexcitons with paramagnetic centers and nuclear spins, the indirect interaction between the PC through a field of excitons as well as the quasienergy spectrum of excitons and spin systems are discussed. It is proved that the interaction of paramagnetic centers with excitons increases the spin relaxation rate of paramagnetic centers in comparison with the case of their interaction with free carriers. The giant magneto-optical effects in semi-magnetic semiconductors are theoretically interpreted. In recent years, a new perspective has been added to these systems and their interactions: They can be used for storing and processing information in the form of quantum bits (qubits), the building blocks of quantum computers. The basics of this emerging technology are explained and examples of demonstration-type quantum computers based on localized spins in solids are discussed.
