Book Hearts and Bones

Download or read book Hearts and Bones written by Tom Chambers and published by Unicorn. This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For about twenty-fiveyears Tom Chambers has explored the medium of photography to create photomontages which are inspired largely from travel in the American West, NewEngland, Mexico, Italy, and Iceland. Photomontageis Tom's unique way to present unspoken stories which illustrate fleetingmoments in time and which are intended to evoke a mood in the viewer. Thefeelings might range from tranquility to turbulence. Through the intentionaluse of magic realism, the photomontages look believable, but improbable. Eachphotomontage is carefully constructed, using both images that have been plannedand those that unexpectedly enhance the story. Tom desires to move beyond documentation of the present, and rather seekto fuse reality and fantasy in musing about possibilities of the future. Over time Tom hascompleted nine photographic series, each with fifteen to twenty-fivephotographs which have been exhibited in more than twenty solo shows and abouta hundred group exhibitions and art fairs. Tom's work is represented by six galleries in the United States andEurope. Tom has received fellowships from the Virginia Museum of FineArts and the Virginia Commission for the Arts. Entropic Kingdom, containing images from five series, was published by Modernbook Editions in2012. Galerie Vevais published Werkdruck No. 6in 2015, featuring his Illuminationseries.

Download or read book Surrealities written by Harry Borgman and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2004-10-05 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dreamlike quality of the images is fascinating and the ideas can be very intriguing. Using the photographic medium to create surreal images is most effective as the objects appearing so real tend to fool the minds eye. It must be real, its a photograph of a real object. Very diverse objects and images can be used together to create unsettling results for the viewer. While some surreal images can be created that are very mysterious, many can also have a very humorous aspect to them. To see oversized vegetables suspended in a room or an Ethiopian Coke bottle floating in the sky is abnormal and funny as well.

Book Re take of Amrita

Download or read book Re take of Amrita written by Vivan Sundaram and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 60 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Re-take of 'Amrita' is a book of 38 digital photomontages by Vivan Sundaram, with a preface and annotation by the artist-author. These montages are the result of a collaborative photographic project: between Umrao Singh Sher-Gil (1870-1954), the 'essential' photographer (who took numerous self-portraits), and Vivan Sundaram, who orchestrates with a digital wand, archival photographs of the Sher-Gil family. Vivan enters the space of the Sher-Gil homes and makes the members of the family enact (and re-enact) moments of radiating desire under his direction. The 'encounters' generated in this process of re-casting the family in new roles elaborate into a fictional narrative. The central axis of the cinematic plot is the relationship between the father, Umrao Singh and the artist-daughter, Amrita (1913-41).Vivan Sundaram was born in Shimla in 1943. He studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, MS University of Baroda, and at The Slade School, London, in the 1960s. He returned to India in 1970 and continued his painting. Since 1990 he has turned to making artworks as sculpture, installation, photography and video. Vivan, himself a member of the Sher-Gil family, has been engaged with the Sher-Gil project over a thirty-year period, as curator, editor, archivist. Re-take of 'Amrita', a series of digital photomontages made in 2001, has been exhibited in museums and galleries in India and abroad. Vivan has also collaborated with Kumar Shahani on the script for a proposed film on Amrita Sher-Gil.Revelling in the multitude of meanings inherent in his digitalized photomontages and his writing, the artist assembles his cast of characters, all close family members, each one singled out for his or her unique history, and repositions them in a fictive composition. The design and layout certainly culls from the best traditions of art book publications. The Art News Magazine of India
