Download or read book Photoimmunology written by John Parrish and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book we attempt to summarize the present state of knowledge in the field of photoimmunology and to provide the background necessary to put this knowledge into perspective. This objective requires descriptive overviews in photobiology, immunology, and dermatology. Our hope is to facilitate interdis ciplinary communication and to stimulate interest in photoimmunology. Section I, Principles of Photoimmunology, describes (1) basic interactions between UV and visible radiation and biologic matter, (2) the optical properties of human skin, and (3) normal and abnormal responses to UV radiation. Basic principles of selected aspects of immunology and photobiology are explained. Section II, Experimental Photoimmunology, describes molecular, cellular, animal, and human studies in photoimmunology. Section III, Clinical Photo immunology, presents evidence of the involvement of photoimmunologic mechanisms in diseases of the skin and blood and examines the possible involve ment of immunologic mechanisms in therapeutic photomedicine. The funda mental principles outlined in this book should prove useful for decades to come. However, our expectation is that the experimental data will be outdated in a short period of time. The potential of photoimmunology is great enough and the serious study of photo immunology is recent enough that this should be the case. This book is dedicated to the goal of continuing rapid growth in the field of photoimmunology .

This book was released on 2008-11-05 with total page 812 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dermatologists are being asked to understand the pathophysiology of a number of immune-mediated skin diseases. In addition, a number of new products have appeared on the market during the past decade which requires an understanding of the mechanisms of action of these drugs. Dermatologists, however, have no easily understood book to which they can refer to regarding the disease or the drug.

Book Photobiology

Book excerpt: Photobiology integrates a wide variety of scientific disciplines. As more people become aware of the many ways light interacts with chemical and biological systems, the need for a concise treatment of photobiology has become more critical. Kohen et al. Have written just such a book, intended both as a textbook and as a reference. The authors begin by providing a brief description of the nature of light, how it affects matter, and the means and methods of measuring it. A major section of the book is devoted to how light influences living systems, including discussions of photosynthesis, bioluminescence, regulatory mechanisms, and visual transduction of light. The last half of the book is devoted to the biomedical aspects of light, including photoimmunology, photoallergic reactions and other forms of light sensitivity, the optical properties of skin, and various ways that light can be used in therapy treatments.Useful to photobiologists as a comprehensive overview, this book should also appeal to biomedical researchers and advanced students of photobiology.

Book Skin Immune System SIS

Download or read book Skin Immune System SIS written by Jan D. Bos and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1997-04-10 with total page 768 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Immunodermatology is a field covering the majority of skin diseases, including the most prevalent onesin the general population. The Second Edition of Skin Immune System (SIS) discusses immune-mediated skin diseases and disease groups in which the SIS plays a role. It covers major findings in immunophysiology and immunopathology that have occurred since the introduction of the First Edition in 1990. As the subtitle indicates, the Second Edition adds a new emphasis on cutaneous immunology, and also includes new information on immune-based therapeutic interventions and methods, such as phototherapy and the immunological therapy of skin cancer. The book contains Part I, with introductory chapters; Part II, with descriptions of the cellular elements; and Part III, which describes the humoral and molecular components of SIS. Part IV follows to integrate the facts described in Parts II and III into concepts of pathophysiology. It contains a number of concepts entitled "response patterns" that describe how the constitutional elements of SIS work together. New in this edition are the descriptions of immunodermatological diseases individually described in Part V. Part VI is also all new and summarizes principles of immunotherapy.
