Book excerpt: This annual review provides critical analysis of the literature on photochemistry and its applications for anyone wanting to keep up to date with the field. Combining reviews on the latest advances in photochemical research with specific topical highlights, this book is the primary resource for anyone wanting succinct and rich information. The volume starts with periodical reports of the recent literature on physical and inorganic aspects, including the molecules of colour, light induced reactions in cryogenic matrices, photobiological systems studied by time-resolved infrared spectroscopy, photophysics and photochemistry of transition metal complexes, recent advances in photocatalytic water splitting, and finally a chapter on time-resolved spectroscopy application of LFP to heterogeneous photocatalysis. Coverage continues in the second part with highlighted topics including, among others, transition metal complexes-based photochemotherapy, advances in polaritonic photochemistry, synthetic strategies based on halogen atom transfer processes and photochemical water oxidation using metal-based chromospheres. This volume will again include a third section entitled SPR Lectures on Photochemistry, providing examples introducing academic readers to a photochemistry topic and precious help for students in photochemistry.

Book Air Pollution by Photochemical Oxidants

Download or read book Air Pollution by Photochemical Oxidants written by Robert Guderian and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photochemical oxidants are secondary air pollutants formed under the influence of sunlight by complex photochemical reactions in air which contains nitrogen oxides and reactive hydrocarbons as precursors. The most adverse components formed by photochemical reactions in polluted air are ozone (0 ) 3 and peroxyacetyl nitrate (PAN), among many other products such as aldehydes, ketones, organic and inorganic acids, nitrates, sulfates etc. An analysis and evaluation of the available knowledge has been used to characterize the relationships among emissions, ambient air concentrations, and effects, and to identify the important controlling influences on the formation and effects of photochemical oxidants. The biological activity of photochemical oxidants was first clearly manifested during the early 1940's, when vegetation injury was observed in the Los Angeles Basin in the United States. Since that time, as a consequence of the increasing emissions of photochemical oxidant precursors, the photochemical oxidants have become the most important air pollutants in North America. In other parts of the world, for example South and Central America, Asia, and Australia, photo chemical oxidants threaten vegetation, particularly the economic and ecological performance of plant life. According to my knowledge, the first observations of ozone and PAN injury to vegetation in Europe were made by Dr. Ellis F. Darley (Statewide Air Pollution Research Center, University of California, Riverside, California) during a study visit (1963/64) to the Federal Republic of Germany.

Book Organic Pollutants Ten Years After the Stockholm Convention

Download or read book Organic Pollutants Ten Years After the Stockholm Convention written by Tomasz Puzyn and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2012-02-24 with total page 486 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ten years after coming into force of the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), a wide range of organic chemicals (industrial formulations, plant protection products, pharmaceuticals and personal care products, etc.) still poses the highest priority environmental hazard. The broadening of knowledge of organic pollutants (OPs) environmental fate and effects, as well as the decontamination techniques, is accompanied by an increase in significance of certain pollution sources (e.g. sewage sludge and dredged sediments application, textile industry), associated with a potential generation of new dangers for humans and natural ecosystems. The present book addresses these aspects, especially in the light of Organic Pollutants risk assessment as well as the practical application of novel analytical methods and techniques for removing OPs from the environment. Providing analytical and environmental update, this contribution can be particularly valuable for engineers and environmental scientists.

Book excerpt: There have been various comprehensive and stand-alone text books on the introduction to Molecular Photochemistry which provide crystal clear concepts on fundamental issues. This book entitled "Molecular Photochemistry - Various Aspects" presents various advanced topics that inherently utilizes those core concepts/techniques to various advanced fields of photochemistry and are generally not available. The purpose of publication of this book is actually an effort to bring many such important topics clubbed together. The goal of this book is to familiarize both research scholars and post graduate students with recent advancement in various fields related to Photochemistry. The book is broadly divided in five parts: the photochemistry I) in solution, II) of metal oxides, III) in biology, IV) the computational aspects and V) applications. Each part provides unique aspect of photochemistry. These exciting chapters clearly indicate that the future of photochemistry like in any other burgeoning field is more exciting than the past.

Download or read book Photochemistry 7 written by A. Reiser and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photochemistry — 7 is a collection of plenary lectures presented at the Seventh Symposium on Photochemistry held in Leuven, Belgium, on July 24-28, 1978. Contributors explore a wide range of topics relating to photochemistry, including the chemistry of exciplexes and the photo-oxidation of polymers. Excited state electron-transfer reactions of transition metal complexes are also discussed, along with the photochemistry of diazocompounds and azides in argon. This volume is comprised of 12 chapters and begins with a review of the role of exciplex intermediates in photocycloadditions involving polyenes and excited anthracenes. The reader is then introduced to the use of photochemical conversion of one molecule into another as an approach to the synthesis of natural products. The following chapters focus on the use of the Linear Combination of Fragment Configurations approach to generate qualitative potential energy surfaces; reciprocal interactions of polymers with excited solutes or polymer-bound chromophores; photochemistry of some three-membered heterocycles; cis-trans photoisomerization of 4-nitrostilbenes; and electron transfer in monolayer assemblies. This monograph will be of value to chemists.
