Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present to our readers the proceedings of the Second International Workshop on Phosphate. A short account of the history of the effort led to the Phosphate Workshops is appro priate and can be of interest to the reader. The idea for Phosphate Workshops was born in the early days of November, 1974. One of us (S. G. M. ) suggested the thought to a group of scientists gathered for a luncheon in one of the attrac tive small restaurants in Weisbaden, Germany. The purpose of the workshop was to bring together interested scientists to discuss the newer developments and the recent advances in the field of phosphate metabolism and the other related minerals. An Organizing Committee made of Shaul G. Massry (USA), Louis V. Avioli (USA), Philippe Bordier (France), Herbert Fleisch (Switzerland), and Eduardo Slatopolsky (USA) was formed. The First Workshop was held in Paris during June 5-6, 1975 and was hosted by Dr. Philippe Bordier. Its proceeding was already published. The Second Workshop took place in Heidelberg during June 28-30, 1976 and was hosted by Dr. Eberhard Ritz. Both of these workshops were extremely successful scientific endeavors, and the need for them was demonstrated by the great interest they generated among the scientific community. The Or ganizing Committee, therefore, decided to continue with the tradi tion to hold additional Workshops annually or every other year.

Download or read book Phosphates in Food written by RicardoA. Molins and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-04 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Phosphates in Food provides the first comprehensive analysis of phosphates used in food processing in almost 20 years. The book describes the nomenclature, structure, chemistry, and analytical procedures for phosphates in foods. Interactions between added and some natural phosphates and food components (particularly proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, and metal ions) are examined in relation to using phosphates in food processing for such purposes as increasing the water-holding capacity of proteins, improving emulsification, preventing gelation, and delaying lipid oxidation. The book also discusses the use of phosphates in specific food groups, such as milk and dairy products; meats, poultry, and fish; fruits and vegetables; bakery products and cereals; and miscellaneous food products including beverages, fats and oils, sugar and confectionery products, eggs and derivatives, and specialty products. An extensive section discussing the importance of phosphates as microbial agents is presented and is followed by a final section that examines the nutritional and health implications of elevated phosphate intake. The book contains 1,135 references, 43 tables, and 34 figures, making it an ideal reference resource for researchers in food sciences, microbiology, and nutrition; food and chemical industries; and regulatory agencies within local, state, and federal governments.

This book was released on 2016-06-20 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The crash of the minerals super cycle is being felt by the global phosphate industry. Fortunate phosphate companies are watching their profits drop manyfold, and the not-so-lucky ones are turning to survival mode. The recent market squeeze and ever-increasing environmental pressures have, however, presented opportunities for developing technologies for extracting the most valuable elements from phosphate. This compilation from the 2015 Beneficiation of Phosphates Conference includes insights from dozens of internationally respected experts on key breakthroughs that will shape the industry in the years ahead. Learn from the best and the brightest in the industry. Topics include: • Recovery of rare earths from phosphate • Uranium recovery from phosphoric acid • Recovery of magnesium from high-dolomite phosphate rock • Phosphoric acid purification via byproducts production

This book was released on 2019-06-01 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compilation from the 2018 Beneficiation of Phosphates Conference includes insights from dozens of internationally respected experts on key breakthroughs that will shape the industry in the years ahead. Learn from the best and the brightest in the industry. The book reflects on the recent impetus for reviewed research in the recovery of rare earth elements from secondary resources. Recovery of rare earth elements from phosphate processing has been one of the important projects of the Critical Materials Institute (CMI). This compilation highlights some of the findings of the CMI phosphate project. Learn how competition in the flotation reagent market has stimulated innovative reagent development work. As a result, new reagents have been formulated and targeted at dolomite flotation, calcite flotation, more selective phosphate flotation, and even flotation in seawater. The Florida phosphate industry is seeing improvements in the processing of high dolomite reserves. Recent encouraging developments include new reagents that can float dolomite without using phosphoric acid as a phosphate depressant, reducing MgO content in the “Crago” flotation concentrate thus allowing blending of some high-dolomite pebbles in the final product, and innovative gravity separation. Topics include: Sustainability and the Environment Comprehensive Extraction and Smart Chemistry Flotation Fundamentals and Reagents Advances in Processing Technology and Equipment
