Download or read book A Philosophy of Therapeutics Classic Reprint written by Eldridge C. Price and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Philosophy of Therapeutics It is always expected that an author will give some reason for his work. My object in submitting this effort to the medical profession is because I believe such a work is needed. In what may be found herein all intention of hypercriticism of any special school of medicine is disclaimed. The author believes the time has come for an understanding between the various schools and sects in medicine; for the throwing down of all artificial and illogical barriers between thoughtful, scientific men who are really searching for truth. This does not mean that any school or sect should become subservient to or be absorbed to extinction by another; but it does mean that the medical profession as a whole should be too broad to allow petty theories and intolerance to separate brothers in a common cause. Of course I refer especially to the differences of views existing between the two chief divisions of the medical profession, the elder or "allopathic" school and the younger or "homoeopathic" school. Book excerpt: Nature Cure Philosophy & Practice Based on the Unity of Disease & Cure onishing spread and popularity of these therapeutic innovations? Their success undoubtedly is based on the fact that they concentrate their best efforts on preventive instead of combative methods of treating disease. People are beginning to realize that it is cheaper and more advantageous to prevent disease than to cure it. To create and maintain continuous, buoyant good health means greater efficiency for mental and physical work; greater capacity for the true enjoyment of life, and the best insurance against failure and poverty. Therefore, he who builds health is of greater value to humanity than he who allows people to drift into disease through ignorance of Nature's laws, and then attempts to cure them by doubtful and uncertain combative methods. It is said that in China the physician is hired and paid by the year; that he receives a certain stipend as long as the members of the family are in good health, but that the salary is suspended as long as one of his charges is ill. Book The Relation of Medicine to Philosophy Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Relation of Medicine to Philosophy Classic Reprint written by Robert Oswald Moon and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-27 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Relation of Medicine to Philosophy That the progress of medical science has enor mously reduced the death-rate no one can possibly deny. The cry occasionally heard, that there is a vast increase in diseases which were never heard of before, is purely absurd; this increase of disease is merely increase in the differentiation of disease. Because at one time the word fever served to cover almost every affection in which the pulse and respiration were quickened and the skin hot, the sum total of disease has not been increased by giving different names to the various fevers. To take a more techni cal instance, the disease of the nervous system called Disseminated Sclerosis will almost undoubtedly be divided up with increasing knowledge into several diseases of the spinal cord, but the sum total of diseases will not be larger. There is, however, just this much truth in the outcry, that as man's life has become more complex with advancing civilisation, so the possibility of minor oscillations from complete adjustment to the environment becomes increasingly great; it is more difficult to be perfectly healthy, because a higher standard of health is required by modern life. This is particularly seen in the case of insanity for civilisation, by increasing the number of social and moral rules to be observed, increases the possibility of their infraction. Book The Air Cure Or Atmospheric Therapeutics

Download or read book The Air Cure Or Atmospheric Therapeutics written by L. D. Fleming and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-11-16 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Air Cure, or Atmospheric Therapeutics: Its Philosophy, Pathology and Results, Being a New Discovery in Medical Science Secondly - Oxygen is the constituent of the air upon which life and health depend. In the performance of respiration, it is inhaled into the lungs, and through them is carried into the blood. Imparting to it those vital qual ities which alone can give purity and health. It aids in the destruction of those waste matters which, when left in the system, are dangerous to animal life. Imperfect oxygenation of the blood is what mainly causes its im purity, by leaving in it those worn-out matters that should be consumed by oxygen, whose office is to change the venous blood, which is returned to the heart full of carbon, and nearly black with its effete matters. Into a bright vermilion red, which it does instantly, purifying it so as by fire, from what otherwise would soon produce death. This is the only provision made by nature to remedy this constantly recurring contingency. All other pretensions for the purification of the blood, are baseless and useless. There can be but one purifier of the blood, viz., pure air. Our blood is made and used every hour, every moment. And so we inhale, or should, its only purifier, every moment of our lives. If drugs were ne cessary to purify the blood, we should need to take them as steadily as we breathe. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
