Book Philosopher en islam et en christianisme

Download or read book Philosopher en islam et en christianisme written by Philippe Capelle-Dumont and published by Editions du Cerf. This book was released on 2016-09-23 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Averroes and the Enlightenment

Download or read book Averroes and the Enlightenment written by Mourad Wahba and published by Prometheus Books. This book was released on 2010-10-04 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thirty-four scholars from 18 countries on five continents met in Cairo to debate for the first time the ideals of the Enlightenment and secularism while celebrating the 800th anniversary of the death of one of Islam''s greatest philosophers. Muslim philosopher Ibn Rushd (1126-1198), known in the West as Averroes, may be viewed as a medieval precursor of the European Enlightenment and as a rallying point for dialogue between East and West. Averroes''s attempt to harmonize philosophy and religion, reason and faith, led to a rethinking of the tenets of Christianity. His work spurred on some of the great rational syntheses of Christian thought, such as Thomas Aquinas''s Summa Theologica. This book offers a rare opportunity to learn about the contemporary Arab world and its efforts to dialogue with the West.

Book Faith and Reason in Islam

Download or read book Faith and Reason in Islam written by Averroes and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2014-10-01 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Available for the first time in the English language, this is a complete and annotated translation of a key work by the twelfth-century Muslim philosopher, Averroes (Ibn Rushd). Acknowledged as the leading transmitter of Aristotelian th ought, Averroes also held controversial views about the re lationship between faith and reason, arguing that religion should not be allowed to impose limits on the exercise of rational thought. His theory of rationality, along with others on language, justice and the interpretation of religious texts, is clearly presented here, in a work that provides the most comprehensive picture available of Averroes's great intellectual achievements.

Book A Disquisition on Religion Science and the State

Download or read book A Disquisition on Religion Science and the State written by Christian Jaramillo and published by Palibrio. This book was released on 2010-12-20 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Philosopher and historian Christian Jaramillo puts forward new and revolutionary approaches to understanding God, the stances that religions should adopt, the development of science, and the States role in the pursuit of human freedom. By studying the evolution of mankind and its religious societies over the past thirteen thousand years, Jaramillo demonstrates that, through syncretism, man has ultimately worshipped the same one God under different names. The author reaffirms the existence of God, the validity of universal philosophers and the significance of religions in the construction of ancient and modern societies. In this book, Jaramillo proposes a new theology for life, rejects immortality after death, and unravels some of the religious myths that have created structural flaws for humanity in constructing their societies, such as the deterioration of human habitat, the destruction of ethnic groups and the many confrontations between races and peoples. Jaramillo denounces the powerful obsession of religions in controlling mankind through their influence over State decisions, to the detriment of the spiritual freedoms and inalienable natural liberties of man, which supersede the State and inhibit science. We believe that the works of this brilliant thinker will kick-start a revolution in theological, philosophical and social approaches ? all of which will remain the subject of hot debate in the coming centuries.

Download or read book Penseur libre en Islam written by Gwendoline Jarczyk and published by Albin Michel. This book was released on 2014-01-02 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Nicolas de Cues et l islam written by Hervé Pasqua and published by Peeters. This book was released on 2013 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: English summary: Nicolas Cusanus' position on Islam is not easily discerned. While in De Pace Fidei he seems to present an Irenic vision of the different religions and the dialog that could be established amongst them, in the Cribratio Alkorani, according to numerous interpretations, he seems more rigid, precluding any constructive dialog between Christianity and Islam. However, as this volume shows, matters are not quite that black and white: the contributions allow us to form a better idea of the coherence of Cusanus' position on dialog and the relationship between the Cribratio Alkorani and his general theological views.

Book Islamic Theology Philosophy and Law

Download or read book Islamic Theology Philosophy and Law written by Birgit Krawietz and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2013-08-29 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A unique collection of studies, the present volume sheds new light on central themes of Ibn Taymiyya's (661/1263-728/1328) and Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya's (691/1292-751/1350) thought and the relevance of their ideas to diverse Muslim societies. Investigating their positions in Islamic theology, philosophy and law, the contributions discuss a wide range of subjects, e.g. law and order; the divine compulsion of human beings; the eternity of eschatological punishment; the treatment of Sufi terminology; and the proper Islamic attitude towards Christianity. Notably, a section of the book is dedicated to analyzing Ibn Taymiyya's struggle for and against reason as well as his image as a philosopher in contemporary Islamic thought. Several articles present the influential legacy of both thinkers in shaping an Islamic discourse facing the challenges of modernity. This volume will be especially useful for students and scholars of Islamic studies, philosophy, sociology, theology, and history of ideas.

Book La religion une question humaine

Download or read book La religion une question humaine written by Shafik Jaradi and published by Editions L'Harmattan. This book was released on 2013-09-01 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
