Book excerpt: A volume containing tipped-in and laid-in letters from, to, and about Phillips Brooks, dating between March 1868 and July 1892. The letters are chiefly written by Brooks and addressed to his friend Charles J. Morrill, mostly of a social nature, most from Brooks' home in Boston, but some were written while Brooks was traveling abroad, from various cities in Europe and elsewhere. Several are addressed to "Miss Morrill"; 1 letter to Brooks from W.G. Morrill, Charles J. Morrill's father; and 1 from Frank Holl to Charles J. Morrill. A portrait photograph of Phillips Brooks has been pasted onto a preliminary leaf. Following the letters, there is a black-edged copy of a tribute to Brooks printed after his death in 1893, possibly issued by Trinity Church. Following that is a portrait photograph of Charles J. Morrill and a manuscript tribute to Morrill after his death in 1895, dated April 13, 1895 and signed "Henry Lee" [i.e. Henry Lee (1817-1898)]. Laid-in the volume are 7 additional letters to and from Brooks and members of Morrill's family, and several other ephemeral items related to Brooks.
