Book Philadelphia Or the Claims of Humanity a Plea for Social Religious Reform Classic Reprint

Download or read book Philadelphia Or the Claims of Humanity a Plea for Social Religious Reform Classic Reprint written by Thomas Foster Barham and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-14 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Philadelphia or the Claims of Humanity, a Plea for Social Religious Reform To do something toward impressing this persuasion, and to suggest, however imperfectly, some of the remedial changes, in our social, political, and religious condition, which appear most essential to its improvement, is what the writer, with much distrust of himself, but with good hope in the destinies of his race, has here ventured to attempt. The reader will perceive, that in the course of these chapters, the author has been led to treat of a consider able variety of stirring and important questions connected with social reform. He is aware that some of the views which are maintained, are likely, at first sight, to appear to many questionable, at least, if not decidedly erroneous yet he trusts that on maturer consideration, they will think of them less unfavourably and that even if he should not be so happy as to convince, he shall still obtain credit for having advocated his opinions from a sincere conviction of their truth and importance, and an earnest desire to do what he could in the service of his fellow-men. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A resourceful and thorough study of an important issue in New Testament and systematic theology, this book is one that takes human action and reception into full account. Where does God's revelation reside--in the event or in the interpretation? If history is about the creation of meaning, what does it mean to say that God reveals God's self in history? Dan Via addresses these and related issues in this original volume.

Book Christ s Humanity in Current and Ancient Controversy Fallen or Not

Download or read book Christ s Humanity in Current and Ancient Controversy Fallen or Not written by E. Jerome Van Kuiken and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-07-13 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Was Christ's human nature fallen, even sinful? From the 18th century to the present, this view has become increasingly prominent in Reformed theological circles and beyond, despite vigorous opposition. Both sides on the issue see it as vital for understanding the nature of salvation. Each side's advocates appeal to or critique the Church Fathers. This book reviews the history and present state of the debate, then surveys the connections, distinctions, and patristic interpretations of five of the modern fallenness view's proponents (Edward Irving, Karl Barth, T. F. Torrance, Colin Gunton, and Thomas Weinandy) and five of its opponents (Marcus Dods the Elder, A. B. Bruce, H. R. Mackintosh, Philip Hughes, and Donald Macleod). The book verifies the views of the ten most-cited Fathers: five Greek (Irenaeus, Athanasius, Gregory Nazianzen, Gregory Nyssen, and Cyril of Alexandria) and five Latin (Tertullian, Hilary of Poitiers, Ambrose, Augustine, and Leo the Great). The study concludes by sketching the implications of its findings for the doctrines of the Immaculate Conception, sin, sanctification, and Scripture.

Book The Human Factor in Machine Translation

Download or read book The Human Factor in Machine Translation written by Sin-wai Chan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-08 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Machine translation has become increasingly popular, especially with the introduction of neural machine translation in major online translation systems. However, despite the rapid advances in machine translation, the role of a human translator remains crucial. As illustrated by the chapters in this book, man-machine interaction is essential in machine translation, localisation, terminology management, and crowdsourcing translation. In fact, the importance of a human translator before, during, and after machine processing, cannot be overemphasised as human intervention is the best way to ensure the translation quality of machine translation. This volume explores the role of a human translator in machine translation from various perspectives, affording a comprehensive look at this topical research area. This book is essential reading for anyone involved in translation studies, machine translation or interested in translation technology.

Book Progressive Creation and the Struggles of Humanity in the Bible

Download or read book Progressive Creation and the Struggles of Humanity in the Bible written by Zoltan Dornyei and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2018-03-22 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why does the Christian walk often feel like an ongoing struggle and why does God’s creation include imperfection, let alone forces that are intent on thwarting God’s creative work? In seeking a response to these questions, this book argues that the biblical accounts describe creation in terms of a progressive transformation process whereby the initially incomplete created order will reach perfection only in the fulfillment of new creation. The following discussion then outlines a comprehensive framework for the biblical theology of humanity’s struggles, centered on three key themes: corporeal temptation, deficient social structures, and the much-debated notion of spiritual warfare. The book presents an overarching canonical narrative that threads together a series of diverse biblical topics, from Job's temptation to the Atonement. The final part surveys biblical teaching on how human conduct can be aligned with God’s creative purpose, and discusses three “assignments” from Jesus to believers: to celebrate the Eucharist, to pray the Lord’s Prayer, and to fulfill the Great Commission.
