Book X ray Phase Contrast Imaging Using Near Field Speckles

Download or read book X ray Phase Contrast Imaging Using Near Field Speckles written by Marie-Christine Zdora and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-02-16 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents research on novel X-ray imaging methods that improve the study of specimens with small density differences, revealing their inner structure and density distribution. Exploiting the phase shift of X-rays in a material can significantly increase the image contrast compared to conventional absorption imaging. This thesis provides a practical guide to X-ray phase-contrast imaging with a strong focus on X-ray speckle-based imaging, the most recently developed phase-sensitive method. X-ray speckle-based imaging only requires a piece of abrasive paper in addition to the standard X-ray imaging setup. Its simplicity and robustness combined with the compatibility with laboratory X-ray sources, make it an ideal candidate for wide user uptake in a range of fields. An in-depth overview of the state of the art of X-ray speckle-based imaging and its latest developments is given in this thesis. It, furthermore, explores a broad range of applications, from X-ray optics characterisation, to biomedical imaging for 3D virtual histology and geological studies of volcanic rocks, demonstrating is promising potential. Moreover, the speckle-based technique is placed in the context of other phase-sensitive X-ray imaging methods to assist in the choice of a suitable method, hence serving as a guide and reference work for future users.

Book Electron Nano Imaging

Download or read book Electron Nano Imaging written by Nobuo Tanaka and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-04 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, the bases of imaging and diffraction in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) are explained in the style of a textbook. The book focuses on the explanation of electron microscopic imaging of TEM and STEM without including in the main text distracting information on basic knowledge of crystal diffraction, wave optics, electron lens, and scattering and diffraction theories, which are explained separately in the appendices. A comprehensive explanation is provided on the basis of Fourier transform theory, and this approach is unique in comparison with other advanced resources on high-resolution electron microscopy. With the present textbook, readers are led to understand the essence of the imaging theories of TEM and STEM without being diverted by other knowledge of electron microscopy. The up-to-date information in this book, particularly on imaging details of STEM and aberration corrections, is valuable worldwide for today’s graduate students and professionals just starting their careers.

Book Grating Based X Ray Phase Contrast Mammography

Download or read book Grating Based X Ray Phase Contrast Mammography written by Kai Hermann Scherer and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-06 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis offers an accessible guide to biomedical phase-contrast imaging with over 20 radiographic illustrations. It focuses on research to improve radiography, and particularly mammography applications, by using a novel X-ray imaging modality that exploits the wave-nature of X-rays, rather than just their absorption in tissue. Further, it explores a broad range of potential applications – from the assessment of breast cancer and the evaluation of microcalcification clusters, to the examination of renal stones. X-ray imaging is an indispensable tool in modern medical diagnostics, and ranges from simple radiography applications to advanced CT imaging protocols. This novel phase-contrast approach has the potential to deliver significantly improved diagnostic information, also and especially in cases where mammography is used for screening purposes. The thesis is based on several studies conducted by the author – working in close interdisciplinary cooperation with medical doctors at two university clinics in Munich – and successfully demonstrates this diagnostic potential in pre-clinical experiments.

Book Super Resolution Imaging

Download or read book Super Resolution Imaging written by Peyman Milanfar and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-19 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the exponential increase in computing power and broad proliferation of digital cameras, super-resolution imaging is poised to become the next "killer app." The growing interest in this technology has manifested itself in an explosion of literature on the subject. Super-Resolution Imaging consolidates key recent research contributions from eminent scholars and practitioners in this area and serves as a starting point for exploration into the state of the art in the field. It describes the latest in both theoretical and practical aspects of direct relevance to academia and industry, providing a base of understanding for future progress. Features downloadable tools to supplement material found in the book Recent advances in camera sensor technology have led to an increasingly larger number of pixels being crammed into ever-smaller spaces. This has resulted in an overall decline in the visual quality of recorded content, necessitating improvement of images through the use of post-processing. Providing a snapshot of the cutting edge in super-resolution imaging, this book focuses on methods and techniques to improve images and video beyond the capabilities of the sensors that acquired them. It covers: History and future directions of super-resolution imaging Locally adaptive processing methods versus globally optimal methods Modern techniques for motion estimation How to integrate robustness Bayesian statistical approaches Learning-based methods Applications in remote sensing and medicine Practical implementations and commercial products based on super-resolution The book concludes by concentrating on multidisciplinary applications of super-resolution for a variety of fields. It covers a wide range of super-resolution imaging implementation techniques, including variational, feature-based, multi-channel, learning-based, locally adaptive, and nonparametric methods. This versatile book can be used as the basis for short courses for engineers and scientists, or as part of graduate-level courses in image processing.
