Download or read book Mineral Resources and Basic Industries in the People s Republic of China written by K.P. Wang and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-01-23 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1977. Mining and metallurgy have had a long history in China, and resources there have always been considered promising. More recently, in the People's Republic of China (PRC), a remarkable industrial renaissance is underway that should gain further momentum in the years ahead. Rapid development of minerals has brought the PRC prominence not only in the area of industrialization, but also in world affairs. Chinese mineral developments, especially in petroleum, have been increasingly in the news. A very large coal industry is already in existence. The steel industry ranks fifth or sixth in the world. The PRC is also prominent in fertilizer, cement, and salt production, and its export metals are well known. The need to know about Chinese mineral developments and the intense interest in them have prompted Dr. Wang's study. Emphasizing the world significance of Chinese minerals, he reviews the history of growth in the PRC' s mineral industry and its present supply position; evaluates policy considerations and regional technical factors affecting mineral development; and assesses the PRC's mineral trade and its efforts to obtain equipment, supplies, and new technology.
Download or read book Petroleum Geoscience written by Jon G. Gluyas and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-25 with total page 672 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Petroleum Geoscience is a comprehensive introduction to the application of geology and geophysics to the search for and production of oil and gas. Uniquely, this book is structured to reflect the sequential and cyclical processes of exploration, appraisal, development and production. Chapters dedicated to each of these aspects are further illustrated by case histories drawn from the authors' experiences. Petroleum Geoscience has a global and 'geo-temporal' backdrop, drawing examples and case histories from around the world and from petroleum systems ranging in age from late-Pre-Cambrian to Pliocene. In order to show how geoscience is integrated at all levels within the industry, the authors stress throughout the links between geology and geophysics on the one hand, and drilling, reservoir engineering, petrophysics, petroleum engineering, facilities design, and health, safety and the environment on the other. Petroleum Geoscience is designed as a practical guide, with the basic theory augmented by case studies from a wide spread of geographical locations. Covers all the key aspects of the origin of petroleum, exploration, and production. It takes account of the modern emphasis on the efficient utilisation of reserves, on new methods in exploration (such as 3-D seismics). Book takes 'value-chain' approach to Petroleum Geoscience. First new text on petroleum geology for geology undergraduates to be published in the last ten years. Packed full of real-life case studies from Petroleum industry.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the death of Mao Tse-tung and the subsequent purge of the "Gang of Four," China's new pragmatic leaders have embarked on a crash program of national development known as the Four Modernizations, This program is geared to the primary objective of turning China into a major world economic and military power by the year 2000. In this book, the outgrowth of a major international conference on China's post-Maoist development, ten distinguished analysts examine one of the core issues in China's current modernization drive: the acquisition and use of modern industrial science and technology. The authors address the politics of China's technological modernization, the institutional structure of technological research, the purchase of foreign technology, constraints on technological absorption, the growth potential of China's critical energy sector, and the modernization of China's military establishment. Supplemented with brief commentaries by leading academic, government, and private sector contributors, their chapters provide an in-depth look at the process, problems, and prospects of China's widely heralded technological revolution.

Download or read book China s Oil Future written by Randall W. Hardy and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-03-13 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Much has been written recently about China's emergence as a potential oil power. Comparisons have ranged from those that picture China as another Middle East, with a Middle East-like impact on future global oil markets, to more modest images of an oil-producing nation that can meet its rapidly expanding internal needs through the late 1980s and still have some oil for export to its neighbor, Japan. Yet to fulfill even the latter prediction, the People's Republic of China will have to surmount a series of substantial political and technical obstacles. This book identifies those constraints, assesses the likelihood of China's overcoming them, examines the incentives for increasing Chinese petroleum exports, and analyzes the role such exports could play in Peking's foreign policy.

Download or read book China Among The Nations Of The Pacific written by Harrison Brown and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-08-27 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On May 14, 1960, the East-West Center was officially created by the Congress of the United States. As a part of the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of this event, a symposium was held on May 19, 1980, at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C. The subject "China and the Nations of the Pacific" was selected because the theme for the anniversary year of the East-West Center had been established as "Building a Pacific Community." It has been suggested that international mechanisms for coming to grips with such interdependencies in the Pacific region as trade, investment, food, energy, and mineral commodities are inadequate. In response to such suggestions, hearings have been held in both houses of the Congress of the United States on the idea of a Pacific community. This symposium was organized as part of that general discussion. The contributors’ hope that the papers presented here will further stimulate thought and debate on the problems of the Pacific region.
