Book excerpt: Depuis plusieurs années, l’évaluation et la prise en charge de l’enfant bilingue en orthophonie font l’objet de nombreuses interrogations. Faute d’outils et de méthodes adaptés, il est parfois difficile de faire la part des choses entre les difficultés inhérentes à l’apprentissage d’une langue seconde et un trouble spécifique du langage (TSL). Plusieurs études soulignent l’importance de proposer des outils d’évaluation adaptés et discriminants dans plusieurs domaines langagiers. Nous avons choisi d’explorer celui de la morphosyntaxe, décrit comme particulièrement fragile dans la littérature, et de montrer l’utilité d’une épreuve de répétition de phrases (RepPH). Cette épreuve a été construite dans le cadre d’un projet regroupant des chercheurs et des cliniciens de plus de trente pays et œuvrant pour une évaluation et un dépistage plus fiable du TSL chez ces enfants. Notre étude se base sur l’examen des aptitudes langagières de 15 enfants bilingues, âgés de 5 à 8 ans, tous exposés au français et à l’anglais. 4 enfants ont été suivis en orthophonie pour un trouble du langage oral et 11 présentent un développement typique. Ensemble, ils forment un échantillon tout à fait représentatif de la diversité et la complexité des profils habituellement rencontrés dans la clinique orthophonique. Le protocole se compose d’un questionnaire parental, de tests standardisés évaluant le français et l’anglais et d’épreuves expérimentales, dont RepPH. Nous avons pu mettre en évidence que cette épreuve de répétition de phrases, basée sur des critères de complexité syntaxique, permet une meilleure détection des enfants TSL dans un contexte bilingue et donc un diagnostic plus adapté en orthophonie. De plus, certaines erreurs pourraient constituer des marqueurs cliniques de TSL chez les enfants bilingues français-anglais.

Afin d'optimiser l'évaluation clinique des compétences langagières d'un enfant bilingue, la question de la documentation du profil langagier se pose. Cette étude porte sur un recueil de données d'un enfant suivi en orthophonie, bilingue anglais-français en France âgé de 6 puis 7 ans, au CP puis au CE1. Il devrait être plus performant dans la langue à laquelle il est le plus exposé et son niveau de langage oral devrait s'améliorer du CP au CE1. Les domaines suivants ont été mesurés : lexique en réception et phonologie, à l'aide de tests standardisés ; diversité lexicale, morphosyntaxe et aisance verbale, évaluées avec des échantillons de langage en narration par la méthode SALT (Systematic Analysis of Langage Transcripts) (Miller, Andriacchi, & Nockerts, 2015) Des informations recueillies auprès de l'enfant, des parents et des enseignants ont complété les analyses. Les résultats obtenus ont validé l'hypothèse au CE1 pour la comparaison inter-langues et pour la comparaison du CP au CE1 en anglais. Cette étude a souligné l'importance d'utiliser des outils d'évaluation variés et complémentaires, afin d'augmenter la fiabilité de l'évaluation de l'enfant bilingue

A ce propos, des recommandations ont été énoncées par diverses organisations internationales promotrices de l'orthophonie qui préconisent l'évaluation dans toutes les langues de l'enfant. Speakaboo (www.speakaboo.io) est un outil qui tente de répondre à ces recommandations en proposant un outil d'évaluation de la phonologie et du lexique en production chez les enfants de 3 à 6 ans disponible dans plusieurs langues. Nous avons créé la version française à destination des orthophonistes non francophones rencontrant un enfant de langue maternelle française. Pour cela nous avons suivi la trame de création décrite par les développeurs de Speakaboo et nous sommes appuyée sur les données psycholinguistiques du français, ainsi que sur les résultats de huit enfants et cinq adultes français. La version française ainsi créée comporte la liste d'items sélectionnés intégrée dans un jeu sur tablette tactile librement téléchargeable, une grille de cotation, un enregistrement vidéo des items énoncés à voix haute et un document résumé du système et du développement linguistique en français comportant notamment les résultats d'une cohorte de 30 enfants français. Les caractéristiques de cet outil et sa pertinence pour l'évaluation langagière des enfants bilingues ont été discutés.

Book excerpt: Bien que le bilinguisme soit en pleine expansion, l'évaluation des sujets bilingues n'est pas aisée, principalement du fait d'un manque d'outils adaptés à cette population. Un test d'évaluation du langage oral des enfants bilingues français-anglais âgés de 5 à 6 ans a été élaboré en 2015 sous la direction du Dr Dana-Gordon (le Dana Therapy Bilingual Test - DTBT). Au vu des résultats, il a été décidé de compléter ce travail par l'ajout d'épreuves en français, afin d'obtenir un outil complet, permettant d'évaluer dans leur globalité les capacités cognitives du sujet bilingue dans ses deux langues et ainsi parvenir à différencier un retard dû à un manque d'exposition d'un Trouble Spécifique du Langage Oral (TSLO). Nous avons pour cela choisi 5 épreuves qui évaluent de manière spécifique les marqueurs de TSLO. Une fois ce test complété, nous l'avons fait passer à 19 sujets bilingues âgés de 5,1 ans à 7 ans. 13 d'entre eux se sont révélés être des bilingues précoces simultanés (BPS) et les 6 autres sujets, des bilingues précoces consécutifs (BPC). Les résultats ont permis de valider la pertinence de l'ajout de ces épreuves et ont montré une sensibilité de la majorité des épreuves au type de bilinguisme et à la classe des enfants.

Il existe cependant très peu de matériel adapté aux enfants bilingues. L’un des enjeux principaux de leur évaluation est donc la création de ce matériel, notamment pour le langage écrit et plus particulièrement dans le cadre d’un trouble spécifique de l’acquisition du langage écrit(TSALE) lors d’un bilinguisme. Ainsi, l’objectif de cette étude est l’élaboration d’un protocole d’exploration du langage écrit de l’enfant bilingue précoce français-anglais âgé de 8 à 10 ans. Matériel et méthode : 18 enfants bilingues tout-venant et 5 enfants bilingues avec TSALE ont été soumis à des épreuves de pré-requis du langage écrit, de lecture et de transcription en français et anglais. Les facteurs influençant le bilinguisme ont été évalués avec le questionnaire ALEQ. Résultats : les résultats des bilingues avec TSALE sont significativement inférieurs à ceux des bilingues tout-venant pour les épreuves de lecture et de transcription. Plus un enfant a été exposé au langage écrit dans une langue et plus ses résultats aux épreuves de transcription (et à moindre mesure de lecture) sont bons dans cette langue. Les résultats aux épreuves apparaissent globalement indépendants des variables longueur d’exposition et taux d’exposition dans les deux langues. Conclusion : l’outil exploratoire élaboré semble suffisamment sensible pour discriminer les enfants bilingues avec TSALE des tout-venant. Toutefois, l’échantillon faible de bilingues avec TSALE nous oblige à considérer ces résultats avec prudence.

Parallel to the development of the phenomenon, an important body of experiential texts has revealed its presence in various parts of the world. While the medical discourse is still struggling with this conundrum, literature gives way to different interpretations by revealing the interconnectedness between writing and starving. Both signifying practices are experiences of the limit where fluxes of particles - food, words - are in constant interaction. Unlike most contemporary readings of anorexia, this book offers an original insight into the creative process inherent to the pathology, which the author calls Writing Size Zero. Body of writing and writing of the body, as found in western and post-colonial texts, delineate an in-between space producing new epistemologies. Through a close reading of the semiotics of self-starvation, the author debunks the myth of anorexia as a mental disease of the West and insists on the variety of expressions and figurations inherent to the pathology. By providing a meaning to self-starvation, writing gives anorexia its ethics.
