This book was released on 2015-03-02 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the readers with a map of the higher education systems and strategic management trends in the higher education institutions within countries of the Ibero-America region. The key feature of this volume is the presentation of a conceptual framework as a point of reference for the development of university management systems in a specific context. Furthermore, the book provides an overview of the development of higher education in Latin America and the Caribbean, to advance understanding of the changes observed in the institutional strategic management setting. The book examines and compares the types of strategic management processes used, as well as the models of applicability of strategy-making. This analysis is done by cutting through a critical review of the processes and systems of university management used in the various analysed countries, and pays special attention to the actors involved, the processes, the reporting systems, the expectations and the limitations. Additionally, the book introduces a methodology for the identification and implementation of best practice in university strategic management, and presents practical suggestions about the ways in which processes and models can be used to increase quality and competitive advantage.

Book Strategic Management

Download or read book Strategic Management written by Cornelis A. De Kluyver and published by . This book was released on 2015-01-26 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is written for practicing executives getting ready to assume executive responsibilities and for MBA and EMBA students who aspire to senior management responsibilities. Success in business depends to a considerable degree on the ability to craft and implement effective strategies. Companies that enjoy a competitive advantage over their rivals typically have a better understanding of customer needs and wants, how they can create value, who their competitors are, and how they behave. Formulating a sound strategy requires both analysis and synthesis and therefore is as much a rational as it is a creative act. Successful strategies reflect a solid grasp of relevant forces in the external and competitive environment, a clear strategic intent, and a deep understanding of an organization's core competencies and assets. Generic strategies rarely propel a company to a leadership position. Knowing where to go and finding carefully considered, creative ways of getting there are the hallmarks of successful strategy. This book builds upon the collective writing experiences of both authors. Between the two of them, they have written dozens of books and some hundred and fifty articles in academic and professional journals, mostly focused on strategy formulation and implementation. The content of this book also reflects our broad experience in teaching this subject to a wide variety of audiences - from undergraduate students to MBA's to practicing executives. Our goals were simple: to communicate succinctly, in a conversational style, at an advanced level, with an executive perspective.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to focus on the contribution of one of the most prominent scholars in the strategy field, Michael Porter, from both a practitioner, that is Chief Executive Officer (CEO), perspective, and from a research perspective. Using such a dual perspective may improve the relevance of strategy research for the business community. Four leading chief executives, two from European multinationals (Royal Dutch/Shell Group and Unilever N.V.) and two from important Dutch public organizations (the Port of Rotterdam and the Ministry of Economic Affairs), were invited to reflect on Porter's contributions to four levels of analysis: (1) business level strategy, (2) corporate level strategy, (3) regional competitiveness and finally (4) national competitiveness. Against this background, the book is structured as follows: Chapters 2 to 8 deal with the four mentioned levels of analysis from a dual perspective - theoretical and managerial. The two final chapters aim to find out how Porter's theories are related to each other and whether and how the different levels of analysis can be connected.
